I have a stock Passat that needs a little help off the line. I want to change the computer chip in it. Anyone ever changed the chip in a 1.8t VW?

yes our Golf has a Neuspeed chip that was done after we installed the new exhaust, turbo, intake. It's best to do other mods first.

if you wanted the easiest jump in power, a chip and a ball and spring boost controller setup would most definitely satisfy that little need, without making the car overly noticable to cops via loud exhaust. intake isn't really going to do much except make the turbo louder at this point since we are excluding exhaust. and yea i do hafta agree with changing out the clutch. you also might look into getting a set of NICE sticky tires to keep the new torque under wraps(no pun intended)

Pinnacle, where do you live? I have a wealth of information on tuning this particular engine because I've spent lots of time researching it on forums for my car.

Do the chip along with a complete turbo-back exhaust system. If that's not enough, get a bigger turbo and intercooler
Along with that, you'll need a better clutch and limited slip-diff. Suspension work and upgraded brakes will also make a night and day difference on the way the car rolls.
Moding a car mechanicallly is like the domino effect: once you do something then something else needs to be added to complement it, and it only stops when you run out of $
For many great recommendations (such as the ones provided by the fellow JW-memebers above) and detailed discussions on the subject check the vwvortex.com forums

Try looking at these tuning websites
www.awe-tuning.com
www.goapr.com
www.advancedmotorsport.com
You might also want to try posting or doing a search about chip in www.vwvortex.com or www.clubb5.com
I actually drive a 2003 A4 1.8T. Recently I got a chip from ABT/AMS(www.advancedmotorsport.com). I choose that particular brand based on realibility. Remember about warranty issues also. If you do it be prepare to pay for the price!
Goodluck.. :D
