Would you buy a 92 911?

Well my career is starting to pay dividends (Im a day trader) and I was thinking of buying a cool car. Old school but not so old that I have to constantly worry about it and would get respect by everyone but still have alot of fun in it and I came up with the 964.

My question: Would you buy one? I read about engine leaks and all but that doesn't bother me since I was a former mechanic. Also, I read about a v8 conversion that renagadehybrids.com does, and though it would make the purists scream, I think its pretty cool. I never been in a Porsche or driven one so anyone with air cooled experience please let me know.

Though, a good 964 is gonna cost you.
If you wanna use it as a daily car, go for Carrera4, its known to be safer and more stable.
For best looks go for Turbo or 964-Anniversary edition (only 911 pcs made).
I don't know much about 911 RS, but it seems to be popular among racing people and thus prices remain very high.
A good 1992 911 RS would cost you around what you'd pay for a new 911 997.
Cheapest would be Carrera2 from 1990, at around $30k.
At least thats the level of prices for 964 in Switzerland.

964 is a pretty bullet proof car. For a '92 I would recommend a new dual distrubutor belt and check and see if the distrubutor vent kit was installed. Its to keep the belt from prematurely aging.

Regarding C4s, there are too many CV joints to keep up with. Unless you have lots of snow I would stay with a C2. If you can afford and find a RS, its the car to have from that era.

I'd go for a carrera 2. The 911 RS is very hard roding, probaby the most focused of all the RS road variants. The 4 wheel drive system in the four adds weight to the car and spoils streering feel.

I would be tempted to go for an earlier model, a 3.2 Carrera with the G50 'box.

Whatever you go I'm sure you'll fall in love, nut please fotget the V8 conversion, I haven't tried one but it ruins the pedigree of the car and will probably add lots of weight to an already rear biased chassis.

Pulp: A 964 carrera 2 goes for 10-20k here.

I thought of the carrera 4 because Im here in NY, but everytime I see a 996 or 997 carrera 4 I just think "That guy is a bitch", so its def. gonna be a 2. As for Turbo, I thought about it because I do want power, IDK enough about it though. I think I might just buy a 2 coupe and put a whale tail on it.

I know what you mean about boxer motor but v8 in a 911 is sick. The only thing is for the price I could prob find a turbo motor or just buy a turbo...so many choices!

Avoid the Carrera 4 in the 964. The AWD system in those cars is very complex and costly to repair. The system was redesigned for the 993 to be lighter and simpler. The 964 Carrera 2 can be a very reliable car. Just understand the well documented dual-mass clutch and distributor issues and get a thorough pre-purchase inspection from a Porsche specialist. You can find a good car that will be a lot of fun. Later models generally benefit from running improvements, so get the newest year you can afford.

Pagani, Z3 M's are ok but they just don't do it for me. They are way too small and there are so many Beemers running around here that it just doesn't say "Your unique". Its wierd to say that but thats how I see it. I was thinking of an old M5 or M3, but again same problem, plus I hate all the buttons. I want something raw and simple, thats why I am considering the 964

Bebopper- I have been doing my research and yea, I might be getting a 92 or 93 just because alot of the reliability issues have been fixed and the rear brakes are bigger.

I looked up Turbos but they are wayyy too expensive for what you get. I understand "its a Turbo", but the running gear is expensive and its only maybe a 70hp difference and 20k more, not worth it.
