We got a bit, something like 4 inches. Some places got almost two feet! I wish we would have! Luckily we didn't get all that ice shit the east coast got, but it was still bad enough to close a few highways and shut down numerous schools.

yeah, i'm from toronto and it usually takes me 15 to 20 to get from pacific mall to downtown bloor(yorkville) and today it took me a freakin hour...but on the upside, snow plus ESP off equals to fun on the streets and also a smile on my face...

What school are you at? They never really close the schools- just cancel the busses... in which case no one goes.

LOL, this is something I wonder about........why the hell do they shut down roads and schools cuz of a little bit of snow.
We get that kind of snow every year but we are not closing down schools and roads.
The don't shut down roads.....some private schools cancel school because generally these people have a long commute.....and for public and catholic schools ...they school board cancels the busses that bring kids to school because it the bus flipped and someone got hurt, they would be sued for MILLIONS.

i think in toronto we are that "pussy", my cousins in new york, if there is an inch of snow they close the school, 1 day he told me that it snowed the night b4, school was closed, and by lunch all the snow melted, i kid you not people in the sates are scared of the snow (well in new york city at least)
Nemisis8u- don't u have exam week, my bro does? he is off till feb 2.

It doesn't happen that often here. The only reason they shut down a highway and a bunch of schools is because so many people had crashed or had gone into the ditch. After the roads were plowed it turned into glare ice in some spots.
If you think thats funny, you should see what happens where my sister lives. In Washington state, they get two inches of snow and the whole damn place shuts down!

I just missed 4 days straight of school because of snow and soon after freezing rain. Christmas break was extended because of that. And the most annoying part is the news here, and I am usre many other places. They just report and report and report all day and night. Okay genius, everyone knows there is snow outside, now shut up and let me watch TV.

I tried driving a Jeep TJ in Toronto today, and it could spin all 4 wheels in 3rd gear. Insane.
Later tonight, I was in a minor accident (different car, different driver) where a hill was so slippery, the car kept speeding up even with the brakes on. It's totally ridiculous.
Drifting the Jeep across Dundas was damned fun though.

Why would the Catholic schools be controlled by the school boards like the Public ones, Private and Catholic schools are the same (at least in the states) they don't abide by the same rules as Government aided ones. It's called separation of Church and State I went to Catholic Schools my whole life and one was actually a Carmelite school but the main reason they would close was like you said the distance thing in High School we had people from 4 counties and even another state.

Here is a history lesson, when upper and lower canada were joining (upper british - not catholic) (lower french - catholic) the french people were afraid they will loose their catholic roots if the british took over, so they made a deal that public school must offer catholic classes, this has not changed since then. You have equal rights in canada to go to a catholic school or public school board with out having to pay.

Where I live there are different school boards for Catholic and Public schools. However, both are payed for through taxes and there is no additional costs for either.

^^ there are different boards yes, but if you go to public school, you can go to catholic school in the summer if you want, they offer the same classes and every thing, and both have to follow the same guidelines and have the same credits

i dont know much about school boards, but i live in West Michigan, and we have recieved about 2.5 feet of snow... 66cm in the last two days. they have shut down 3 of the state's 7 highways, and the grade schools were closed in the area.
you must keep in mind, the highways which were closed were due to large pile-ups, one being 56 cars, and it wasnt the entire highway that was closed, just a section.
to bad my snowmobile is broken

wow Michigan only has 7 highways? that is insane i think there are 7 highways in toronto allow, 400,401,407,404,427,DVP,Gardner, and those are all divided 4+lanes

when i said highways, i suppose i really meant expressways.... we have tons of normal highways that arent median separated mostly, or just lesser distances. I75 runs the lenth of Sue st. Marie to Key West Florida, whereas a lesser highway "dixy hwy" runs most of the same distance.
Detroit has 5 highways running through it, but only about 3 of them continue for a great distance. Ford, Lodge, I75, I94, I96
