how does it drive...better yet how much power? r u pushin 300 yet?

gis
01-27-2004, 11:55 AM
very nice i like the srt-4 a lot,i wish they would bring them here to the UK.

i think with those mods u should be touching 300hp right?

dangerously_cool
01-28-2004, 03:12 AM
it handles nicely, just needs the rear sway bar put in and some better bushings, then it will be awesome. with my old mods i was pushing 300+. I'm getting my car from the shop tomorrow with some luck, and ill be able to up the boost pressure to about 14.5 psi without tuning, and this will get about...350 id say. fuel system is good for 18+ psi, which should yield more than 450 hp. im tuning this saturday, so ill see what happens.

How was that turbo install I heard they're a bitch because half the stock turbo is built into the Exhaust header. I personally don't like the looks of the Neon but since the engine is pretty much Mitsubishi I have to support the car

dangerously_cool
01-28-2004, 03:46 AM
ah, you like evos then i think? theyre nice cars.
i got over the neon thing the first time i drove it, stock it is about 220 whp, saturday i should have it close to 400. removing the stock turbo took me some time, but this is the first car ive owned or modded, so everything takes me time the first time.
the biggest thing that gets in the way of the removal of the stock system is the lower heat shield, which, unless cut off with a plasma cutter, gets in the way like crazy, and its sharp. the directions for my kit were no help with the removal, which didnt help either. "step 1: remove intake, battery, and complete turbo assembly" wish it said how. biggest pain was that the directions had some bugs in the order of the steps.

zevolv
01-28-2004, 03:57 AM
Yes i do like the EVO's read my sig \/ \/ Once I get the HKS upgrade and Larger intercooler, Fully custom exhaust, and some other little stuff I should be rollin well, I've already got a K&N FIPK setup which is pretty good (hell they made a show car specifically for it). I would like to do internals but that means I have to take the engine out and I've already got an Engine on the stand now and I need the car for the winter so this summer I might just rip the car apart. Good luck with your's.

dangerously_cool
01-28-2004, 03:59 AM
sounds like a nice project, good with yours too. i dont have to pull internals quite yet, that is after i make my 450 whp. i know this because a guy on my forums is running 450 whp on a bb turbo, and has no sign of problems yet. i can get custom rods and pistons pretty easily, and i have a friend who will help me rip the car apart.

zevolv
01-28-2004, 04:05 AM
Did you do anything to the brakes? I didn't see anything listed. The only thing is I don't want to go too crazy with this car since it is a winter car I want it to be able to grip in the snow. But I can handle 500 rwhp I think I could handle about 6-700 awhp. :D And my goal is to look completely stock. I should have pics soon enough.

dangerously_cool
01-28-2004, 04:12 AM
yea, looking stock always helps, ive had cop trouble for my exhaust, and these ca cops are convinced everybody is a street racer. brakes are stock, and im not planning on upgrading them for a while, if at all, theyre fade free, so i should be fine for now.

zevolv
01-28-2004, 04:16 AM
I would upgrade atleast the brake lines and fluid if you plan to hit 400 hp. Luckily my car has racing Brembo's and I've done the Lines already. That, the intake, and the stereo is all I've done so far. Also is the car purple or is that a funny reflection on a black car?

dangerously_cool
01-28-2004, 04:27 AM
that would be a funny reflection on a black car...no way would i have a purple car...its bad enough its a neon. and i dont plan on upgrading the brakes, but steel lines are in the works from a guy around my area.

i have a baseline (hoping on tuning as well) dyno tomorrow, so expect some numbers. i pray that i get to tune.

dangerously_cool
02-08-2004, 06:49 AM
alright, i have the baseline, and at 12 psi, it made 235 whp, 13 psi it made 265. more to come.

brijoel
02-09-2004, 04:26 AM
1psi difference and 30hp.........did you do any tuning inbetween those runs or something? even with a t3/t4, that seems odd....and btw, id worry more about how much hp the stock fuel system will make vs. how muh psi you can run. psi #s dont say much other than your turbo is being worked hard.

not trying to discount, just curious is all :)

dangerously_cool
02-10-2004, 12:52 AM
only tuning i did was adjusting the fuel pressure so it would run 12:1 and lower, and i have no worries about the fuel system, because mine isnt stock, i have a walbro 255 lph pump, an aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, and a perrin fuel rail.

i like it alot, the srt-4, evo, and STI are probably my favorite cars right now, i like yours alot, how much did all those mods set you back?

dangerously_cool

tuning set for 3/2.
problems were fixed (broken flex pipe, cat converter, badly installed tach adapter, greddy eo1 was reset, as was ecu and key recognition)
stay tuned.

i ran into more little setbacks, thanks to the shop installing the emanage wrong. at 15.5 psi i ran into a lot of knock and timing retardation because of it, so i only made 277whp. im trying to work out the emanage problems, and ill set up a new dyno date then.

Sounds like you have one very hot SRT-4. Good to hear that your brakes seem solid. But then again, can you ever really have too much in the braking dept?

dangerously_cool
04-09-2004, 02:08 AM
Never can have too much braking. The car's been having a lot of problems, but it should run by next week. It's been two months since the shop installed my boost and fuel controllers, and it's been a nightmare. With some help, it looks like it's almost fixed.

dangerously_cool
04-22-2004, 02:31 AM
In due time.
The shop that installed my boost controller and fuel controller (I don't know enough about it) did a royal job of ruining my car, hence the delay in dyno's. The MAP sensor remains unclamped, so 15 psi is what I can run right now, but rest assured, it will be turned up. :D
My night shot experiments, I tried anyway.

Sorry about the downtime on those pics, my friend's server was down for a little while.

The car isn't running right now, I had to pull the manifold and have some work done to it, but hopefully tomorrow the car will be up and running, and then I should have some new pictures, weather permitting.

The two highway pictures are of highway 4-E and W, at Willow Pass roa, by the Highway 242 exit, fifteen minutes from me.

The rest of the pictures on the page are in Alhambra valley, about ten minutes from me, towards Orinda.

I'm hoping to get some pictures from Oakland Hills of the Bay, and the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges. If I can, Those should be some beautiful pictures.

The car is put back together, and I believe that I got rid of some leaks. I noticed that there is no ticking noise under low boost. Car works better now. Yesterday, I drove to Oakland hills, though it took me three hours because I got lost in the middle of the most ghetto part of Oakland I've ever seen. It was agitating.
And on the way back, in the Caldecott tunnel, there was an accident, and a car caught on fire, So I was stuck in the tunnel for a while, anyways, without further adoo (sp?) here are the pics, in small form. I'll get better sized ones up once my friend's server is back up.

Call it a hunch but I'm guessing you really love your car from all the pics lol

Seriously it looks awesome and 300HP I'd love to see a 1/4 run. As you said take it easy about ramping the boost pressure all the way, in time.

^ Yes great rims choice too, looks a bit like rims on a EVO 8.

You totally changed my perception of the SRT-4, from a toy to something like a STI or an EVO!

Yeap, I love driving this car, it's fun as hell, plus the area is beautiful.

More power is on the way. As soon as my new MAP sensor, PCM, and Injectors come in, I'm going to turn the boost up to 18 psi. 12 psi made 242 whp, and 15psi made 300. Its efficiency is well above 20, so this should be nice.

This weekend I should be able to make a teeny bit more horsepower, there's going to be a mini-meet/install meet, and my underdrive pulley, and hopefully the rear control arms and rear sway bar will be going on as well.
I have a big leak (car won't hold boost, it fluctuates like crazy), and after I built a leak tester, I found that it leaks like crazy around the catch can.
Unfortunately, this is far from definitive. The catch can is right next the the wastegate, and the wastegate lines, and above and next to the turbo-intercooler coupling, two probable leak sources.

I will find out this weekend. I hope to get some more pictures up on here soon.

dangerously_cool
05-27-2004, 11:53 PM
The leak was fixed, it was caused by a few loose parts, the intercooler hot side pipe was leaking, as well as the upper pressure pipe, and the oil dump tube, all had to be tightened, and the leaks went away. The only leak left, an inevitable one, is the oil catch can, but it is not bad at all.

The underdrive pulley went in no problems at all, and the engine revs a little bit more freely now, so I like that. The Perrin rear sway bar, as well as energy suspension endlinks and polyurethane bushings are on the car now, and I hope that soon I can get my control arms installed, because the Perrin sway bar alone makes the car handle a world apart than what it did.

Right now, the boost is turned down, so the car will only be at about 280whp, since the computer has been pulling ignition timing at 15 psi. I hope to get a new computer/clamp the map sensor in a month or so.

And now for the good part, I drove to the top of the local mountain, the highest peak in my area, 3849 feet, or about 1200 meters, and took some pictures on the way up. I took a total of 92 pictures, here are twelve of the better ones, unfortunately, the weather was not terribly accomodating, it was a bit cloudy, but here they are.

hahaha. Yeah.. the 3g's blow. The 4g's should be alright tho. I love SRT4s - stick with it.

Speaking of sticking with it, I just got my new S2, so I put it on, was too impatient for pictures, and I'm runnig 17 ish psi right now...it feels fast. The external wastegate dump tube hits the firewall still, so tomorrow I'm going to an exhaust shop to see if they'll bend the damn thing. Soon I might have a dyno, the week after the 4th is tuning time.
The most recent engine shots I have are these two:

Note broken intake (mount by filter is broken off) I need a new one really soon. It is no longer held on the turbo inlet by duct tape, however.

So far as I can feel, I've driven the car a bit, and the dump tube stopped banging. It was cut and rewelded at a different angle, and then heated and bent with a pry bar. Hope it worked, if so, I could see a dyno soon.

good car..well tunned :D

Thanks. More tuning is coming, I hope. The turbo is big enough to outlast the internals, so 400whp isn't out of the question...just takes time. :D

nice car bro!

hey are you actually in walnut creek? I live in SF but my roommate lives in WC and im always there.

I'm in martinez, but WC is where the police tend to like my car least.

well walnut creek PD tends to dislike window tint and j-walking. you should come hang out in SF, the cops could give two shit cent about your car

That's true, I saw two rexes chasing a 360 Modena a while back.
New numbers from last week! At 112 Degrees F (about 42-44 C), and 17 Psi the car made 315 WHP. Here's the graph.

once again as i said months ago, nice and now 315hp,i sure wish i had this car at 17

New dyno, I hope to post the graph soon. 340 Whp, 320 wtq @ 20 psi on 91 octane. I put a 60mm throttle body on, and replaced two of the three motor mounts today. One to go. If the dump tube still hits, I'll have to try and bend it again...

Update: Took throttle body off, replaced with stock, it fucked up the tune and caused detonation. New plugs gapped to .045 and a week of driving on the low boost map, and it's back up. Camera crapped out, but hoping to have a dyno sheet up on the site soon.

You ever stop to think that 340 bhp in a front wheel drive car might be a tad excessive, especially for a new driver. Don't mean to play nagging parent but common there's gonna be a point where it no longer becomes effecient and i think u passed it about 100 bhp ago.

well he should beef up the tranny now and quit working on HP so that shit doesn't snap an axle. It will be great at the strip but it won't be able to handle too well with much more power.

It's more like 400bhp, but who's counting? To say that I haven't modded the suspension would be a lie, one need only read the beginning, but that's asking a bit much, isn't it. Sixteen years old and you're nagging me? I'm a wee bit older, so shut your ass up.
Mopar S3 Coilovers
Perrin Rear Sway bar
Energy suspension shortened endlinks
polyurethane bushings
Lowered 1.5 inches rear, 1 inch front
Konig Verdict 18x7.5 rims
Michelin Pilot Sport 235 40 18's (the widest that fit on the car without flaring the fenders)
Mopar Limited Slip differential
Custom Rear control arms are going on soon as well, they're in my garage.

never said you didn't do suspension but you should invest in some heavy duty Trannsmission parts especially half shafts so they son't snap in half when you lay on it one day. No matter how good a suspension is though FWD is VERY limited on handling when alot of HP/Torque is applied because it has to do the turning, most of the braking and the driving, it can only take soo much before one day it says "Fuck You" and throws drivetrain parts through the engine bay or hopefully out the bottom of the car.

BTW why did you install a muffler on the car?
it was already pretty much straight pipes.

I think Jeremy once complain and Alfa having 240 on the front wheels is too much. That's at the crank.....and now 340 at the wheels....OMG, no LSD or suspension bits will able to help the torque steer. Hey man, I say it's about time you stop before everything starting to break.

T-Bird

If you read his post he has an LSD and new Suspension but the drivetrain won't hold up and the actual cornering will suck no matter what you do you can't lay down the throttle and turn with that much power on the same wheels.

The muffler was from a fix it ticket in Walnut Creek. The transmission is a beefy piece already, and I know that FWD is limited. the options for high performance RWD are few, and when I bought the car, the 24 year old mustang chassis didn't beckon to me. Axles will go, but not quite yet, it isn't powerful enough, so I've got time. I've done my homework, you'd be surprised how few have destroyed their cars, the stock internals are good for over 535whp, and the transmission on that car was stock, as well as the transmission on every 400whp SRT-4 yet tuned. Axles are the next bit that I need, but the torque isn't high enough to snap these yet.
Torque steer isn't remarkably bad. There are 450whp street driven SRT-4's wherein the only difference in suspension bits are the axles.
EDIT: When my Axles go I'll admit you were right, but I know the car. The drivetrain will hold up. The tires spin before the axles snap, and I don't drive on slicks.

Car is down for the count. My friend backed his minivan into my car when I was parked, the intercooler bent into the radiator support beam which buckled and bent the radiator. A mess is following in terms of fund sourcing. Not surprisingly I'd like to allocate the funds from a different source than his parents....

that sucks man.
A kid from school blew his tranny (same car) trying to do a burnout it was fucking hilarious. (sadly I didn't have the camera that day)
And the best part is it was only 5 days old and had a voided warranty already so he's fucked. I'll try to get pics when we pull his tranny in the next few weeks
I hope you can get your's fixed with out much money out of your (dad's) pocket.

No parenthesis. My pocket. That sucks for your friend's tranny. Unfortunately any money I pay will be of my own pocket. Not my dad's. Take pics of the tranny rebuilding.

Not a friend he's kind of a ricer wannabe jackass that's why I was laughing my ass off when it happened. It smelled like shit.
He knows nothing about the car he was saying the engine is 100% Mitsubishi with an EVO VIII turbo and it was the same tranny without the rear wheels hooked up to it. He took the car and sent it to a local RICE shop and let them do little BS things and I doubt they actually tuned it.
Sadly there are quite a few ricers in my class all with crappy looking Honda's and one with a nice looking Neon that doesn't work
It was funny one of them was ripping on my car saying it had a tiny little 6 in it and that he could take me any day and I set his ass straight explaining he had a Prelude with just an intake Fart can and timming gears let alone the poorly fitting Skyline body kit, and I had a V8 NOT a V6. He couldn't keep up pulling out of the campus. I'm not saying my car is blazzingly fast but it sure isn't slow.
About the (dad's) part I assumed that you would have to ask him to borrow money to get it fixed. I asked my dad to "loan" (with 0.0% APR) me money to get my new Tranny/driveshaft in a few weeks because I don't want to touch my savings until I'm out of school and they understand that.

BTW any pics?

My charger for the camera went mia, but if the shop has a camera when I go, I'll borrow it and take them. With the front fascia on, little can be seem, except some scratches (which couldn't, apparently, have been made by the minivan), maybe I hit you know, a divine wind or something, that pushed my intercooler into the radiator, also, kinda funny, there's this 1 cm cube punched into it, and this apparently couldn't have been caused by the minivan. I must've hit some children playing with marbles. I simply want a new intercooler that's not bent into the radiator support beam and with smashed fins and a hole. I'd also like a new radiator, and my frame put back to the way it was...only three weeks after I get it tuned, this shit has to happen. I have to stop making fun of cripples...
