When I competed in ISEF, one of the competition winners built a glove that could translate sign language into written text.... that worked remarkably well... I believe the product is actually in use to some small degree in a far more worked out version now. Sure is different then doing something like studying heavy metals in metal poor stars, or determining a link between phase variance, opacity, and terestrial phenomena... or discovering and cataloging pulsars in the andromeda galaxy.... or mapping the sky in the oxygen line... or blah stuff that I did :P

There are some real electronic wizzards. One of my friends was a ISEF winner some years further back, who has been an electrical engineer since he was 12 (however, he is just about done with his PHD @ 28) ... some people just love learning how to make things work, how they work, and making them work in new ways.

With the money he makes from becoming a great engineer, maybe he'll one day finally get laid ;-)
