View Full Version : Cadillac CTS wins Motor Trend COTY
I saw the car at both the OC and LA auto shows. It really is impressive.

Appearance wise, it looks pretty nice. It definitely has a presence on the road. I'm not too sure what the car has to offer on the inside though b/c I've never researched it.
Congrats to Caddy...but I'm not sure if I'd give it the COTY award.

It's very nice inside. Looks and smell. Fit's alright, and the material's way ahead of what it used to be.
It's a big deal for an American car to woo the Japanese-loving Motor Trend staff.
The last "American" car to win was the Chrysler 300C in '05. Since we've had the lackluster Civic and the soulless Camry.

Even so, Motor Trend's COTY Award has too much influence in the market place, sadly.

can you say "paid off?"
I just got done reading the full Motor Trend write up. I'd say they made the right choice. You also have to consider the competition, which only includes cars new for the model year. The Accord was lacking and it was apparent enough that not even Motor Trend could find enough subjective areas to get it in the winner's circle.
The real competitors were Mercedes C-class and Audi A5/S5 (both low volume cars which then have much more to prove) along with the Chevy Malibu (which was kind of automatically trumped by the cadillac).
I might say that about the '06 double Honda wins though (Ridgeline and Civic).

Yes. Motor Trend's crap. That's why I stopped reading it. Cadillac, though, I think was a good choice.

You missed the best one of all.. 1974.. Mustang II...
I've always enjoyed mocking their list of past winners. They'd be wise to lose the "significance" requirement so more low-volume cool cars could actually win.
This month's issue has actually been quite enjoyable to read though. Usually I get more frustrated with them. The articles on the new Alfa Romeo, the BMW 1 series, and the Bullitt Mustang to name a few, helped.
