As a result of the California fires, an associate of mine has a friend that, unfortunately, felt the full brunt of the fires.
You can see the exhaust is all that was left of the Stradale, with the RS being nothing more than a shell.
Very sad.

that's just terrible :( it's really sad he couldn't get his cars out of the garage... but i guess your family and life is more important than the cars.

Now that's a real shame... two of the most desirable cars lost :?
But does the 2nd picture mean we can conclude that German car engineering is way better than Italian?

Ouch. That is a horrible sight...
Will insurance help him get a new 430 Scuderia?

The fire must have snuck up on him quickly 'cuz if I knew it were coming I would be packing things and kids into the cars and heading for the sunset. The house can burn!
Well there's my Monday morning quarterback statement.
Poor guy, I can't imagine what it's like. I'm sure he did the right thing. :?

It was rather amazing how fast many of the fires were moving. I'm talking action film fast.

LOL, I re-read my post and realized that if I headed for the sunset in so-cal I'd only make it back into the fire - or into the Ocean. So make it the sunrise.

Sad sight to see, but what matters is that they're ok. I can't even imagine what it must be like to lose your house, possessions, etc.

we can conclude that Porsche's are made of steel, but stradale is made of aluminum and carbon fibre.

how did he not jus move his stuff before, even if the fire was moving fast, cant you see a giant fire from like miles and miles away?

Poor guy, I lost my home in 2004 during hurricane Jeane, so I know what its like to lose everything.

Damn, that is horrible! I can't imagine how tough it would be to lose so much of your life so fast. I can kind of understand how the cars possibly got left behind because I am sure the guy had a lot of other crap to worry about and the fire probably advanced way too fast. Still, its such a terrible loss. :(

Perhaps to lose his Porsche & Ferrari is terrible, but to lose his house is still worse.

Oh crap... i would still take the ferrari engine ... polish it up and use it as a table !!!!

Lots of things can happen. To begin with, he was probably away from home. Assuming that, there are all sorts of things that can go wrong with communication.

You have HOURS to take care of soemthing like this....unless, of course you would prefer to just let the insurance take care of it.....
Coming from a country where bushfires are common-place, I know that these fires can move quickly, especially if there is a thick layer of dried dead leaves and branches that can help a fire spread. Fire is unpredictable.
Regarding the cars and house, I feel sorry for this guy. It shows why you should generally not buy houses in areas of high fire risk, and why if you do, good fire prevention strategies are needed.

All's well that ends well ....
Many thanks to many people!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't have the words to express our heart-felt thanks to the many people that helped me, my family, my friends and my neighbors recover from the Southern Cal fires. Here are some personal thanks:
- Many thanks to Liberty Mutual car insurance for providing me with the funds needed to replace my cars.
- Many thanks to Farmer's home insurance for providing me with the funds needed to re-build my home.
- Many thanks to McKenna Porsche for selling me a perfect GT3 RS at a very fair price.
- Many thanks to all on FerrariChat and other forums (e.g., 6speedonline, Rennlist) for their kind words and very welcome advise.
- Many thanks to Mike S for inviting me and my wife to his lovely home and offering to sell his CS to me.
- Many thanks to my wife who shares my enthusiasm for special cars, and was willing to replace our cars before we re-build the house!
And very special thanks to Pat at Ferrari of Orange County for locating a perfect CS like the one I lost, and selling it to me at a special reduced price. The people at Ferrari of Orange County are just a real pleasure to do business with.
Here are some happier pictures of the GT3 RS being delivered to my rental house and the CS after being delivered from a collector to Ferrari of Orange County.
One thing I've learned from this experience is that people are far more important than wood and steel. And, be sure your insurance is adequate for your property. Sadly, some of my friends had inadequate insurance that will not allow them to re-build their homes.
