I have a question lads. I'm interested in why does this transmition has 2 final drives one for 1st and 2nd gear and another for the 3-6th gears? Why is this necesary, and which are the good/bad points?

Transmissions Gear Ratios (manual models)
2.0 Diesel

1st 3.615
2nd 1.794
3rd 1.542
4th 1.176
5th 0.921
6th 0.732
Reverse 3.416

Final drive
4.063 (1,2)
2.955 (3-6)

Thanks and regerds.

Sorry for comenting my own post I forgot to mention something. Obviously, this means that the 1st and 2nd gears will be shorter than the others, and pretty short, too. I mean 4+ final drive isn't long in my book. However why didn't they just introduce one final gear somewhere in the middle let's say 3.500?

It's a Kia Cee'd 2.0 CRDi

p.s. It's in Hyundai i30 with the same engine as well.
