Win2k and XP are fairly stable because they where built off the NT kernel.

Win98 was just a patch release of Win95 and WinME was MS's effort to make some money to fight the monoply lawsuits.

XP Pro is the best, it is the fastest before the Service Pack too! LOL this is somehting that they plan on changin when longhorn becomes available. They say, security is the priority and that they will make sure patches wont make the computer slower. If you reinstall XP and do not use any updates, you will notice the difference in speed.

I use Xp on my desktops and 2000 on my laptop.

Personally i think 2000 was the most stable OS - As I had virtually no problems with it.

But - all the built in stuff that windows does for you in XP makes computing alot easier.

I agree Apple is way better I have 2 of them for school but I play alot of PC games and for that you need windows. I also use Linux (boot cd) on my Laptop so that I can hack hotspots. Then I have a machine that runs Red Hat or Knoppix.

I also have XP Pro on 2 of my pc's and 1 laptop. It's easier to netowrk and has given me no grief at all. The other PC (for hooking up to my car and diagniostic work etc) runs on win 98.

Don't hate the Mac have you ever actually used one. I've noticed that alot of people that say that have never used the Mac and if you want to work with omputers for Music, Video, Design etc... you need to use a Mac. they are much more stable than Windows boxes.

Windows 2000 was the best window ever before XP came along..
2000 might be more stable.. but with the latest update from XP .. everything seems to be running smoothly for me here..

Millenium was the worest Window ever..
same goes for 95 with that annoying blue error .lol.. I use to get OWNED by it ever sec.. hehehehe

I used a mac back when the Macintosh II and IIe's where popular.

What I find funny is this. Mac users rave their stability yet EVERY time a new Mac os is release whats one thing that is boasted about... Its increases stability. If something is already rock solid stable how can it get more stable?

And if anyone should be looked at for a monopoly its APPLE. They get the cold sholder because they dont hold the market share. IF MS tried to lump a dvd writter and all that other I Crap that apple toss's in with OS X they would not hear the end of it from the monoply witch hunters.

XP Pro, best current Windows OS for gaming.

Actually it was the Apple II and the Apple IIE I have a IIE in my basement actually. Apple does provide a portion of their software for PC users they should have kept the iPod to themselves though.

2000 is the best and more stabile. XP has many mistakes to be fixed.
It´s more pratical and trustable to stay with 2000 Pro.

lol I never installed any of the patches and after reading this I don't plan to. But I ould say that 98 is the best Windows for me right now becuase I happen to be programming in debug for fun :).

Now if I wasn't using debug I'd say XP, because its blue and looks cool, or 2000. I just heard bad things about ME.

And for the stablility of macs... I never really believed it as the first time i used one it crashed...

If you get XP Pro it's alot more secure and has alot less flaws. just make sure as soon as you upgrade get the updates off of Microsoft's website.

But one thing for sure, when it comes to graphical design you've got to have a mac...

This is a bogus misconception...

When I received my computer, it originally had the ME OS in it because there was a slight delay in getting it out. Oh my god, what a mess that ME was! It worked fine when nothing was wrong, but when it crashed; look out! I was quite familiar with the blue screen of death and with tech support at Microsoft. One time, I had a problem with the software even Microsoft and Compaq could not figure out, and Compaq said that I had a bad hard drive and gave me a warranty number to get it fixed. Well, I figured out it was ME causing it and fixed it myself. Still have the original hard drive humming away as I type this.
Oh, almost forgot. I have XP Home and lovin' it!

Actually that is what most companies and just about every school that I've looked at use unless you use propritary software like ILM

I'm using win xp pro and it didn't experience any catastrophic failure yet (touch wood) 8)
so i would say win xp pro is the best
(win 2000 pro is also very good, and it uses less system resource)

And that is because Apple has always thrown their hardware at the educationals and creative companies in an attempt to promote their solution.

This fact was true up until about 1998 - since then ALL the graphics folks have had Windows 2000, and now XP Pro versions of their heavy weight design products.

zevolv

when your running an emulator they can slow down quite a bit but Mac's don't run Windows software directly, you need an emulator or Mac compatible software.

Microsoft makes an Office program for Macs but you can't just go buy any program for windows and plug it inot a Mac it must have the Mac symbol on the box. I think he ment it was equal in performance.

SamuraiGti
01-24-2004, 12:09 AM
Why run windows in a Mac when you have the Mac OS X (i think that is the name) that is far better?

Apple are very stable and the performances can be higher than in Windows.

Power Mac G5 rules.

zevolv
01-24-2004, 12:11 AM
you don't actually run Windows on it, the idea is to use programs only available on Windows it's not actually Windows on your Mac, it's usually for people who want to play games not available on the Mac. That's really the only kind of program not hugely available for the Mac.

SamuraiGti
01-24-2004, 12:15 AM
It should have. Probably with that kind of programs available to Mac, the sales probably would fire up, and i would be one of those.

zevolv
01-24-2004, 12:17 AM
The idea behind the Mac is to have an alternative to Windows not another version of it. Gates and Jobs don't get along verywell you know. Also I don't think Apple is struggling to get your business so they wont change anytime soon. they have loyal followers like myself who wont ever give up the Mac and yes I do use Windows and Linux aswell.

SamuraiGti
01-24-2004, 12:23 AM
I only use Windows, here there are Mac for sale, but what about the warranty and the assistance? Here we don't have it for now. =\

If I was a designer and needed all Macromedia Products, i'd have a Mac to work, much better and reliable than Windows.

In the U.S. for shore, in Portugal tech support directly from Mac doesn't exist. =\
