A 10-year-old school boy committed suicide by jumping from his 19th floor apartment here after his parents banned him from playing computer games.


Andrei Smirnov, a class three student, jumped to his death yesterday after receiving the wrath of his parents due to bad conduct in school and a poor performance in studies.

The boy's class teacher had written remarks about his bad conduct in the school diary which he had tried to erase to escape the wrath of his parents, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid.

Angered by the teacher's remarks and their son's attempt to deceive them, Andrei's parents banned him from playing games on his computer.

Local experts here have expressed concern over the unhealthy dependence of children on computers.

According to Director of Centre for Legal Psychological Assistance Mikhail Vinogradov, children who are banned from using their computers could easily resort to suicide, since they do not realise the consequences of taking the extreme step.

Damn that kid's hardcore. I used to hide under my bed to make my mom think I had run away but she caught on pretty quick.

I bet the kid also had psychologic issues... if he jumped from a 19th floor because of the videogames it's because the kid wasn't that normal :bah:

I'd blame the parents, since the kid was only 10, but I suppose in the end it doesn't matter who's to blame. Kid died and his parents emotions scarred for life. :(

Damn, this is extreme. You come up with the weirdest stories, Stan.

I don't think you can blame anyone in this case. The parents have to shoulder the responsibility of teaching responsible habits to children, but there is only so much they can do.

Stupid to blame his suicide on computers and video games. Psychological issues from his parents are more to blame. He was already in fear of his "parents wrath" when caught by his teacher.

Maybe thats parents fault maybe not at all we dont now what situation was in the family. Even if parents would notice his intentions and catch him before he riched the window wtf would that idiot do when he would be 25 and his boss would fire his ass or his gf would tell him she want to break up with him? :?
