View Full Version : Porsche 944 S2 indepth
Well, the pics were waiting in line for quite some time now, but never got around posting them after the accident. The car is now gone, and despite the terrible memories related to it, it was the best car I ever owned and would be hard to match its pace, its perfect dynamics, practicality and sexyness.

Enjoy!
100% reliable during the 20'000 km I did with it. And much less expensive to run than my A4.

What is your drive now Matteo ? Audi A4 ?
Well, my daily drive (almost 5'000 km since I bought it less than 2 months ago) is the Ducati Monster. I used it every single day since I got it.
Second comes the Porsche 964 C4, used mostly to visit my girlfriend in Lausanne, but lately, just to attend the Porsche gathering in Interlaken.
Lastly, when I need more luggage space or to carry more than two people, comes the Audi A4 B5 2.8, but the other day I discovered it has a flat battery since I didn't touch it anymore
But Monday things might change as I'm on a run to get another funny little and affordable Porsche :).
My dad just bought a Fiat 126 aswell. We're putting it back on the road and I'm sure I'll steal it to him quite often. I drove it the other day and it's mighty fun!

Hm... looks like i miss something
what happened to your 944 ?
story/pics of accident ? :?
sorry about that
There was a huge topic back in December. The crash happened the 16th while coming back from the Bonhams auction in Gstaad. Huge crash with another car, wasted the 44 but most important, lost my best friend, who was sitting beside me :(

love th3 944. thanks for this :)
Well, it's actually a 914 2.0, red, US.. I testdrove it yesterday and it's fucking perfect for what I like... old (1974), light (900something kg), gorgeous and pretty rare...
Sadly there are some details in its history that needs to be cleared and could let me to a "no".. the counter says 7600 km, but there are infos in the service book and such that shows the car at least reached 117'000 km up to 2006... maybe they took to 0 the counter when a new engine was installed? Maybe when it was fully restored? Maybe they just switched the miles counter with a km one...
The car seems very well kept, both inside out, but before taking a decision I need to know if the engine is new (and tranny and such) and if it was ever in an accident (the bonnet doesn't seem to perfectly fit the other panels...)
Will take a decision soon I guess...

^^lol i definitely didnt always love the 914, when i first saw it in Need for Speed Porsche i thought it was butt ugly... but lately, i do indeed think they're gorgeous :D they really have this romantic atmosphere about them, of good old innocent driving pleasure

Although the 914 or the 944 will never be a legendary as the 911 is, both cars are very well sorted such as the handling, the engine, the sensations, the interior, the build quality.....furthermore, the 928 in every version is an awesome car as well, however every non 911 version is just unpopular due to the 911.
On the other hand Matteo; once you adore the 944 S2 as you said already, why dont you buy another 944 S or S2, If I liked the car a lot, why not buying a similar model; it mustnt be very difficult to find some standard 944 bargain

Always loved the look of the 944. Definitely one of my "dream" cars. That body style is very significant of the 80's.. many manufactures mimicked it.. Mazda's RX-7, Mitsubishi's Starion
Photos looks great.. its a shame about the tragedy that goes along with the memories of the car though. Take care TT!
100% reliable during the 20'000 km I did with it. And much less expensive to run than my A4.
Why do people always beat-up on this car, there is a kid who works at 'one' local Starbucks who owns one-ever so often I see 18-19 yolds driving 944s. I'm not that familar with these Porsches-more loyal to 911s.
What about build quality?
Dude, I will never stop defending the 944 with all my strenght: it's a full fledged Porsche, period. Inside it was almost identical to my 964, everything fitting its place, perfect build quality and let's not forget the car was 17 years old!
The last S2 is the perfect 944 IMO. Performance similar to the Turbo, more reliable and gorgeous if you ask me.
And it's sooooo well balanced. To drive a 911 of the same era after the 944 (and I could do it every day since I bought the Carrera) was almost painfull. Feeling heavy, poorly balanced, worse driving position... won't say the 911 is crap, but the 44 is so much cooler to drive. The driving position is more toward a racing one, with the legs almost horizontal, the weight balance is spot on, reactions in changing direction very honest, quick and precise. Weight transfer under acceleration was never an issue. And all in all, it felt as fast the the 911 on every road, if not quicker on the tricky ones. Easier to handle, and still more fun!
We only tried a couple of times to take out both cars and see if the 911 was able to shake the 944, but it never happened (not talking about straight line speed, as the 911 feels definitely stronger above 180 km/h).
It's a car I'd like to buy again one day, but it's not the time now ...

hey TT, i'm considering getting back into 3D modeling and since i came upon some nice blueprints of a 944 i had to immediately think of your car. do you think you could provide me with some very high res shots of the car exterior? the stuff i was able to find on the net usually was max 1024*768
so i would appreciate if you could direct me to some good high quality reference pictures of your car :) the background or artistic value of the pictures absolutely do not matter, i just need to know what the shapes and lines of this car look like in detail.
it would be great if you could make some big shots of the interior, like door panels and the whole dash.
Well, all the pics I have of it are on my website, and I didn't keep any original, so , no bigger than 1600x1200, sorry...
