Apparently, when both cars are driven by F1 drivers....yes

Article from Wheels magazine, sept 2007, written by Peter Robinson.

"After the F1 chat, I'm keen to ask about Webber's road car. Red Bull is powered by a Renault V8, so, not suprisingly given the commercial ties, he drives an "awesome" R26 Renault Megane, which replaces the BMW M5 at his disposal during his time at Williams BMW. In Formula One, sponsors always come first.

But that doesn't stop Webber, straight forward as always, ignoring the politically correct answer.

"The best road car I have driven is the Audi R8," he says. "A few of us [drivers] spent a track day recently at the Paul Ricard [the Bernie Ecclestone-owned circuit in the south of France].

"Kimi [Raikkonen] almost destroyed the latest Ferrari F430 trying to keep up [with the Audi]. 'I can't hang on to you; you're too quick,' he told us.

The R8 is an awesome piece of kit, phenomenal."

^ Honestly, I doubt it. Although it may be possible for the R8 to record a quicker lap time than the F430 (as it did in the evo track test), in terms of acceleration, the Ferrari is certainly the faster car.

What kind of acceleration are you talking about?

Both the Audi and the F430 do 0-60 in 4sec range (based on the car magazine performance test)

Performance test showed a different picture - the F430 is better in all areas :

Not to mention a better time for 430 around NS

Made by different drivers on different days no doubt.

Mate you are a little bit wrong, these tests are done by von Saurma himself, different days maybe but keep in mind that when one Porker was faster than a Ferrari nobody complained about different days hehehehehe

So you are trying to give some kind of evidence in the way of Sport Auto and then you rubbish them in the same breath?

^^^ Read again: EVEN those biased bastards showed that the 430 is faster around the track, straight line acceleration and so on.

There is no reason to get upset.

One of the first searches on Google gives a link to Car and Driver performance test of the R8. They did 0-60 in 4.0sec flat even though the manufacturer claims 4.6sec.

http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtests/12512/2008-audi-r8-verdict-page2.html

and based on the performance results you provided the F430 does it in exactly 4sec as well!

Thus I was asking what kind of acceleration blue8 was talking about

Nobody is getting upset :P

It`s true that conditions and testing procedures (warm tyres or not, how much fuel and so on) could vary from test 2 test and magazine 2 magazine and nobody doubts that C&D are correct.

But in the past we have seen some nonbelievers that put a BIG question mark on some F430 test, especially one in which the car went 0-62 mph in 3.6 sec. Wanna bet you wont find 1 test with R8 that has numbers even close ?

When other german mags mirrored the result (AutoBild IIRC) the assholes stopped bitching about.

German mag, traditional 0-100 km/h

Erm it was SA`s result mate :

4 sec for 430 vs 4.7 for R8
Same driver, same standard procedures, and yes I know, different day

In right conditions the R8 is faster than F430

MrMojo I`am on my way to Finland to meet you  , but in my way i`ll stop at Valmet for shopping

Well in 5th gear last night the audi R8 lost out to the 911 C4S in drag races 2 - 1. And on the track they were very very even. And i do not think a C4S 911 is as fast as a F430.

Hehehe mate you are optimistic, Valmet producers of M71

My impression an R8 is slightly slower than the latest 911 which is slightly slower than a F430. These differences are probably minor and in the real world the differences in the driver would be the real factor.

Although i really love the R8 and the looks of it, i donīt think it can beat the F430 in any aspect apart from quality maby.

Automobile Mag comparo:
CAR | 0-60mph | 0-100mph | 1/4 mile
Audi R8 | 4.5 | 10.5 | 13.0 @ 112mph
Ferrari F430 | 4.1 | 9.0 | 12.2 @ 122mph
Porsche 911 Carrera S | 4.4 | 10.5 | 12.8 @ 111mph

Road & Track was able to record 4.0 for 0-60mph in the manual R8 (.3 faster than the automatic with launch control). With LC, the F430 do it in 3.5  Once the rumor of an R8 with the latest V10 biturbo (as in the RS6) materializes, that's when it'd probably out-pace the Ferrari and Porsche

Every stat shows that the F430 is faster than a R8 in acceleration, and i would imagine the F430 is faster around a track. Like i said earlier, The R8 is on pace with the porsche 911 C4S, i would hope a F430 would be faster than a 355hp porsche. If Kimi Raikkonen cannot keep to the R8 in a F430 then it must be a hell of a car and webber must be a hell of a driver. I think webber is not quite telling the whole truth about this.

Not trying to take anything away from the R8, i actually saw one for the 1st time last night and it looked stunning!!

I agree, there is something more to this story that was either conveniently or mistakenly left out.

I dunno. May be he was refering to the fact that driving fast on the R8 is easier in the F430... and that's why Raikkonen almost went out at Paul Ricard trying to keep up with the Ferrari. That, or that the finn was drunk 8) :P

Kimi drunk, never!  :P
