According to autoexpress, the Nissan GTR test mule has been lapping the Nurburgring in around 7:15! I know it isn't an official time yet, but that would be absolutely incredible. I think the closest hypercar is the Porsche Carrera GT which lapped in around 7:32 (I think). Here is the link- I can't wait for this beast to be finally unveiled!

With who driving?

So now we have a huge heavy 450bhp V6 running faster on the straights than a CGT, and faster through the turns than superpowered Caterham on racing slicks.

Riiiiiiiiigth ;)

I've long doubted this quite a bit. and Today is no different.

I know the CGT would do much faster with more aggressive rubber, and special NS suspension that doesn't exist... in the 7:15 arena.. with a CF tub no less. In the End, the CGT recieved the most streetable suspension, and the best rain/dry tire out there, and it pulled off the uber fast 7:25 with WR at the helm.... and 7:30 with HvS driving.

yeah 7:15 is a joke. i am guessing that the time will be closer to 7:45 or so, maybe.

Almost impossible. It will certainly be over 1.300 kg in weight and I doubt it will have more than 550hp, so it is impossible to record a time like that. Not even 911 RS on cup tires are that fast.

Maybe in the new GT5....

I agree that it seems a little too optimistic, but even if they are off by as much as 30 seconds, a 7:45 lap is still very impresive. Guess we'll just have to wait for the real car to be taken around officially.

Looks like Autoblog just posted this:

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/22/round-1-gt-r-vs-911-turbo-at-the-ring-advantage-gt-r/

We'll start by saying that it's not exactly hearsay, but it's not anywhere near official, either. Take one 997 Porsche Turbo that has lapped the 'Ring in 7:40, practically fast enough to form one of those Stargate SG-1 vortexes behind it. Then take one Nissan GT-R, benchmarked against that Porsche Turbo, and flog that baby around the 'Ring as fast as possible. Add a few reporters on hand with stopwatches. And when the GT-R flies past the finish line, the reporters discover those stopwatches have come to rest after just 7:38.

So the story is that the GT-R is two seconds faster than the 911 Turbo on the Nurburgring. And the Skyline in the photos doesn't even look to be the mad-gunner EVO-spec version. If that's the case -- and yes, that's a big if -- and say you allow for the inaccuracy of handheld stopwatches and add two seconds, so the GT-R did the same time as the Porsche Turbo... Well, we're not crowning a victor, or speculating about the whats and whys, or what will happen when the real timed laps in production versions are done... we're just saying that's pretty good. That's all.

The new gtr could very well be a huge surprise performance wise.
I could be a porsche killer

YEh.... lets see if it's faster then the X50/X75 Turbo... depending on conditions of the track, it "should" be good for 7:30's ;)

If it out does a Porsche, great for Nissan. They definitely were using Porsche(997TT) as their standard/benchmark for the GT-R's development so thats a nod towards Porsche in my opinion.

7:38, now that's more realistic. I definitely believe it is just as fast, if not faster than the 997TT. It is what they are benchmarking their developments on... and just as Ford did with the GT vs. the 360, Nissan pull it off too, it's nothing too hard engineering wise.

Now all that matters is pricing ;)

I hope it can pull such a time, but 7:15 is not fast, its absurdly fast, and when we compare it what cars who cant pull off those times it makes it all hard to belive as the laws of physics still apply to Japanese cars....

Well said. I don't draw lines between Japanese cars and European cars. But the initial posted time is unrealistically fast.

The fact that it may be close to a 911TT is not terribly surprising given that both are AWD, etc. But if it's smashing times by things like GT3 RS, Enzo, CGT...then that leaves me skeptical. A 7:45 would be very impressive. Especially if they can sell the car for well under the $110k that a 911TT goes for. My guess is it won't hit the $50-60k mark and more likely will be a $70k-80k car?

Too bad its still ugly as sin... I didn't like the last GTR, but the new one is like falling off the ugly tree and hitting each branch on the way down.

That time they say is well with in reach with a good driver.. remember this car is under constant development. It can only get better performance. AS for the look.. not even jesus can help.

^Jesus can reverse our preception on beauty and ugly....lol. If that's the case it would be a really pretty world

To each his own, I think that the R34 GT-R looks great. But this one isn't as good looking as the last one for sure.
