Dubai: A sports car will now help put out fires - beating traffic with its small size and fast performance, a senior official said.
Brigadier Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director of Dubai Civil Defence, said the civil defence will soon start using a customised Corvette car to attend to fires quickly, to prevent them spreading.
He said the car is a small, light and fast car which can beat traffic and contains highly-effective firefighting and prevention systems in addition to rescue equipment in cases where people are trapped in cars.
Equipment in the car includes a portable fire extinguisher, hydraulic equipment, firefighting equipment and first aid equipment.
Brigadier Al Matroushi who suggested the idea of developing a sports car and followed up its development daily, said one of the reasons behind a fire getting worse was the distance between civil defence centres and accident locations. The large size of civil defence vehicles makes it difficult to arrive quickly at the scene, therefore the need arose to develop a fast car.
Captain Sulaiman Abdulkareem, Director of Civil Defence Technical Affairs, said the developing of the car took two months by four members.
The car is currently being exhibited at an exhibition in Qatar.

Nice.

Actually, an EVO would not have been better. They clumsier, heavier and slower and have less luggage space than a Corvette ;)

This thing would make circles around the average Camry taxi traffic but why not a Z06!!! By thinking of it Mitsubishi Evos would be more suitable since they offer more space

Not really - the space an EVO offers is not as accesible as the space a hatch 2 seater offers.
Notice how they set up the car to be like bed of a pickup when open - everything is laid out and you have access from the back and sides.
The trunk and rear seat area of any 4 door may be slightly larger than the Vette, but it is mor clumsy to get at when at a crash scene.
This is not the first hatch-back sports car EMS response vehicle.

we have vette interceptors here in the highways... soooooo.
anyways i don't like the looks with the wing, but its for firefighting and its in dubai so that sort of makes it ok

Really? Are they black and white?
I have seen a few C6 Corvettes painted in generic black and whit cop colours around here and could never find out where they were from - perhaps they get down there via Houston - who knows ;)

yeah they are highway patrol, they're rarely used and there are pretty few. I don't know if with the new change of fleet they added C6's but the others are C5's.

Interesting concept. Limited usage, though, because two guys hopping out of a sports car like TV cops isn't going to be much good when a large factory is burning down.

I just can't imagine who approved for that Sick Car!!!
Like What!.. They test drove it first,, then they approved that it should fight fire!!!
hehe,, this is funny,, Do you remember Guy?>.. One of the TopGear shows, the corvette was racing against it's own burning fuel, while JC having a Blast!!!! WOW! Thats How They Got it!

Actually, 2 seater high performance first responder vehicles have a great track record in many countries - saving lives and allowing crews to get a jump start on the rescues etc.
I really wish youfolks would think before you post.
The fucking vehicle is a FIRST RESPONDERS vehicle. It never claimed to be a pump truck or crew wagon or anything else.
It oculd just have easily been a Porsche or Merceds Coupe or Goid forbid a Ferrari (however, then everone would praising what a good choice the F-Car was)

I never said it was a bad idea. I just said it had limited usage. It's useful to get people there to get things sorted before the trucks arrive, but it's not going to fight fire.

And your point?
They call ALL emergency vehicles "Fire and Rescue" in many countries.. even though not every vehicle is used to Rescue or Fight Fires - and then some are able to do both.
And if you are first on the scene of a car accident, you can and will fight the fire with your extinguisher.
In fact, some first responder vehicles even have lifting bags, a small hydraulic jaws of life, a set of rams, a couple extinguishers and a foldout backboard - more than enough equipment in the right hands to put out a small fire, cut a person free and then immobilize them ready for evac.
Not a bad firefighter car  Why not M5 Touring with some luggage space?
As much as the infidel Amerikuns are despised in that area of the world... for some or other reason GM cars from the US are hugely popular and imported by the container load. ;)

I just thought that firefighters would require as big luggage space as possible, but maybe those Corvettes are like motorcycle cops. They have everything they need, but nothing more than that.
I have never seen the luggage compartment of a Corvette, is it big?
Yes it is - about the same size a large sedan.
Interesting concept but I wonder how much time they can really save with a performance car of any sort.
