Ok so we Americans get the Civic Si with a 160bhp engine. The UK gets the Type-R version with a 197bhp engine. Is the engine totally different or is the US version just detuned and fitted with a more restrictive exhaust setup? Also, both cars look the same, save for the badging of course but are there any other differences under the skin?

lucky in Australia we dont get Si or type-r just the standard. My sister recently got one as her first car.

yes the engines are totally separate units, i believe the type-r also has a better suspension setup from what i understand. the civic si we have in the states is a crummy excuse for a "sporty" car IMO. if they still weighed only 2400 lbs it wouldnt be so bad, but cmon almost 2800 lbs and 160 hp.......
they should have just produced only the type-r, i just dont see a point to such a mediocre setup. lol i guess im just being harsh though

its not detuned, its a differant engine.
the one in north america is the siR and has 160bhp, which is the same engine as the base RSX..
the type R on the civic shares its engine with the RSX type- S ..
some ppl just pop that in the civic to convert there own type R..
unfortunalty, the rsx (integra) type- R is not out in north america yet. but it has 220bhp around the world.

But what the fuck. Here in Brazil there are just the old hatch civics. The new don´t arrive here. But i guess the Civic Si is basically without the same ECU programming and exhaust. I guess, because the difference of power between then is insignificant, and the appearance less.
But i´ll search for this question, because NSX type S and type R are both the same, but with some modifications in each other. I´ll try to find an answer to this.
