I have been fed up with spam for quite some time
now, going from E-Mail provider to E-Mail provider,
and with every one it's the same problem. If I don't
check it every day I have to sort through 40 or so
spam messages. Does anyone know how to correct
this problem? This morning I just had a new record
200 spam messages in my inbox, this is starting to
get way out of hand, and get me seriously eritated.

I know this seems to be a rather stupid question being
how everyone has to deal with spam, but it seems
to be that I get an excess amount of spam. I am
not kidding, I often get 20 spam messages a day. Could
it be that I'm getting targeted by a certain spammer?
And if so how does he or she get my new address every
time?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I've already tried that one, and it had the same problem for me,
but that was before they had any spam blocker so I'll try it again
later on.

Here's a list of the ones that I have tried so far.
AOL(may try it again as they now have a spam blocker)
Yahoo
Juno(Stopped using it today after the 200 message onslout)
Hotmail(current one I'm trying)
Angelfire
and several others that are not going now.

Thanks for the help. :)

try speedymail.org (I think that's the address at any rate), my bro is a computer geek and hates spam more than anything...so this is apparently pretty good cuz he uses it hehe.

BTW, the spam you receive is not related to yahoo, hotmail or your own domain's email.. if you receive many emails (spam) it's because for sure you used that email to register in many sites and so on...

On the email addy I never used to register or subscribe anywhere, I never received a single spam email

I have the same problem...everyday I get a message from 'Cindy', 'Caren' or some other bitches, about a 75% discount on Viagra. At first I found it rather amusing, but now it's just getting me pissed off !! When I try to get off the mailing lit, I get messages that the "message couldn't be sent". SHIT !!!

Is their any way to block all E-Mails with certain specific words,
e.g. viagra etc. That would probably block almost 70% of all the
spam I recieve, which would bring it down to a quasi exceptable
level.

I still find it strange that it all starts almost emedeatly even on
a brand spankin new E-Mail adress, which is why I wonder if it
is someone who is targetting just me. And if so how would I go
about stopping that, short of getting a total identity change(after
all those are quite hard to get these days :) )

I beleive that I have gotten a couple of messages from Caren, but none
from Cindy that I am aware of. Of course I don't excactly pay to much
attension to who the spam is coming from, I just delete it, but when you
have 200 messages to delete it gets a little bit arduous.

If you have an e-mail account thru your ISP or thru a company or something like that ask them to install spamassissin. I use it for my personal e-mail servers as well as the servers i run hosting from as well as at work. Its a great free tool to filter e-mails based upon predefined and user defined rules.

First rule of thumb. NEVER give your e-mail address to someone via a post in a forum. (ie if your posting a message never include your e-mail address as part of the text). Spam bots will come along and grab it and bingo your on a spam list.

well I use hotmail and using the filters and custom filters, it all works nice. You should consider getting a firewall, setting your internet explorer's security to default, and dloading and running ad aware (www.lavasoft.com). Many times, spyware send your email addresses and that is how you get spammed.

The firewall and the default security helps prevent some of the tracking cookies, however, not all. That is why you should run ad aware once every week.

hope this helps

You should consider getting a firewall

Can anyone tell me what the best firewall is. I've tried Zone Alarm
and it's great, but you have to purchase the Pro version to make it
work properly with networks. Does anyone know of a cheaper but
no less affective alternative, or is a get what you pay for situation.

for free, zone alarm is the best. It should work well with networks too. I have norton internet security. Try to get it somewhere.

it is true that you should never post your mail anywhere. There are programs that internet geeks have which store all the @email.com entries they find while they surf. I mean, they just browse forums and pages all day long, and that program stores the email addresses it finds by itself. Then they send the big chunk of mail addresses to different companies.

you should also type HOSTS DOWNLOAD at google and dload a host file and replace the dloaded one with the one that comes with windows. This will ban those ads that store cookies to your computer and help the risk of your email getting robbed.

Be sure to run ad aware once a week.... and before you do an online purchase or fill an oline form. If you have one of those malicious cookies, you can get into real trouble.

hope this helps

If you do post your e-mail address put it in a format that people can read and understand but bots and scripts cant process.

Hey you can e-mail me using the e-mail address username at domain dot com or something simular. Honestly if they cant figure out that the above is equivlent to [email protected] then they have no right even using a computer thats connected to the net.

Ok! I have tried some of the suggestions and it looks like
I may be having some success, well, at least I haven't got-
ten any more spam yet. I'll have to see over the next couple
of days if it's for real, it'll be a big releaf if it actually is. :)

Maybe I've lost Caren for good now.

Well spam is just the most motherfucker thing in the world. i don´t take much spams because my provider is good, it´s UOL. My emails don´t arrive here with spams. It´s good, but spam makes many people lose time cleaning them. it´s so boring!!

I asume you're talking about AOL.

I have heard a lot of good about the AOL spam blocker. I may try AOL again,
but they're still very propriatery which I really don't like and there broad band
service goes through Verizon DSL which is cheaper than AOL broad band(now
go figure :? ).
