That's too bad I really liked the new BMW design angle it was something new you can't have the same car design forever.

Dang that's sad... the new BMWs are one better than the previous one.. with the new 6-Series he maybe reached an apex ok, but to see him going away is not so great IMO...

He can design the outside of Subarus IMHO - cannot touch the engines or 4wd systems! the boyz at FHI know that department well. Shucks! imagine if he ends up in ferrari or porsche?

Too bad. I really like Chris Bangle's designs for BMW. It would be interesting to see what he'll do at Subaru. Zapatinas is trying to create a new design language for them, but fails to succeed. After critisism Subaru decided to cancel the design shown in the B11S and B9 scrambler show cars.

Out of the new designs, the only two i like are the Z4 and the 6 series. I like the 6 so much, that I am not sure wether to be happy or sad for his departure. Besides, new designs have to have some kind of similarity with the older series, I mean no abrupt changes. So then, I wonder what the new designs taken out from these new designs will look like...

You can't put all the blame on Bangle on the designs of the cars. Somebody had to approve his ideas and put them into production!

True. His parents are also at fault :D In all seriousness I think you have a good point.

I'm gonna miss bangle. I loved the 5 series and the Z4. Wish he'd stay a bit longer.

hmmm i liked the z4, as do most ppl here i believe. didnt like most of his ither work though.
about ferrari or porsche, porsche would be AWFUL, i think hed screw up those typical porsche lines, and ferrari dont design their own cars, pininfarina does it for them. Hope hell never get to work there, as sum1 else said KIA wud be nice for him, or deawoo, although i think chrysler is gonna design most cars for them now

Well, and he was just getting better. I wonder what BMWs will look like with yet another new design line...

Oh god! where is he going to strike next????????!!!!!

I think the real question is where he will go after BMW...if that really happens.

exactly which series' did bangle pen? i heard one of the most commonly hated wasnt his fault. either way i think he took the soul out of bmw and gave those cars a very contrived look. nothing beats the e36 and e39(moreso the M versions but you gotta start somewhere)

how do you go from (anyone whos ever seen an m5 on the highway knows they look 100x better in person.)

to (i really never want to see one in person. and the trunk is HIDEOUS)

yes, two different series but its old vs bangle here; and for that example, he should be burned at the stake

Yeh i heard that a little while ago. To be honest i'm genuinely surprised that he lasted that long at all; BMW was a well respected exectuive car maker with the 5 series really being the standard choice for most. The problem was Mr. Bangle tried to be too revolutionary and push the design too far forward for the time.

Its the same with all german manufacturers - their customers like the new car to be similar to the old one just with a few minor additions ans nothing extreme. BMW may now be in quite a mess with their 5 series!!
Bon Voyage!

It really is no wonder he's getting the boot-- BMW wanted different, but not controversial. After all, they are a German (read: conservative) company with legions of loyal followers.

Any guesses on where Bangle will end up?

I think he screwed up a classy design, the front looks alright but like jinxed8 said the trunk is ugly, I saw one in person (not a good thing). The worst thing is how the taillights curve upward and the side bodyline looks plain.

I think that what Bangle did for BMW was necessary as BMW's design direction was getting to an end, all the series looked quite simillar, and the designs although more classy they were a bit boring. He is also responsible for great looking cars like the new 6, the x5 and x3, i am just very curious to see what the new boss of the design department will achieve. The one series looks really nice too.
