Last guy got 5 months. Gee would that title be worth the time.

By comparision, Paris's time is starting to look paltry.

I don't think non accident speeding tickets in the USA carry jail time, but I could be really wrong. Big money and licence suspension is all I have heard of. I know they can and will sometimes haul you to jail for anything over 85 mph plus towing your car. It may be up to a judge and jury whether you get sentenced to jail. I know 95mph in Wyoming was just mail $100 in when you get home.

In Houston, we have lost 8 people in the last 2 months to railroad crossing accidents. It is a real shame. 7 have been teenagers with their whole lives in front of them. In one case a 15 year old driver survived and is being held for murder. (no not a death penalty case).

Murder for an accident? Don't you guys have manslaughter in Texas?

Anyway, this is some speeding ticket! I guess whether he goes to jail will depend on whether he endangered anyone.

The young driver stole two cars that night the first broke down, so he stole a second. With his younger brother, he picked up three younger friends at 1:30 in the morning after their parents were asleep. Went joy riding as it is called. He was going 60 or 70 on an old dirt road as he wanted to "get air" over the railroad tracks.

The boy was unlicenced and was overdriving his lights. He didnt see that a freight train was parked on the tracks stopped. The county RR crossing is not signalized. The stolen SUV went under the tank car taking off the roof and the heads of his younger brother and the three young kids in the back seat. One girl was only 12. Their parents didn't even know they were not in their beds untill they got a knock on the door at 4 am in the morning.

Probably murder over manslaughter because he was committing a felony, since it was a stolen car.

^OK, felony murder, fair enough.

Holy shit that's a fast ticket. Happened to me once, got caught going 160. It may be selfish but I don't think it's incredibly bad to go that fast, just stupid. I wrecked my srt beings tupid so the right lesson can teach you anything...

As for the kid who killed three others that's pretty bad.

^Um, what in the world is involuntary manslaughter? I think you mean manslaughter by gross negligence. The actus reus for manslaughter (and every other crime) involves a voluntary act. No voluntary act means acquittal. The only way he can get off on involuntariness is if he randomly fell asleep or blacked out.

He shouldn't have gotten into the car. A reasonable 15 year-old male would not have done what he did.

In any case, if the theft is deemed serious enough, felony murder is wholly applicable. Let the kid plea down to manslaughter, or dangerous driving occasioning death.

Google is your friend:

Involuntary manslaughter, sometimes called criminally negligent homicide in the United States, Gross negligence manslaughter in the UK or culpable homicide in Scotland, occurs where there is no intention to kill or cause serious injury but death is due to recklessness or criminal negligence.

Stated differently, the offense of Manslaughter is never Felony Murder and Involuntary Manslaughter is an accidental homicide committed with recklessness.

wow that whole deal with the dirt road is just horrible shit. but if you are caught by speed camera doing 156 in a 155 limited car couldnt the ticket be nullified for like wrong speed or something and the whole thing would be thrown out? i thought i heard something on the radio about uncalibrated speed cameras and laser detector reading being thrown out but maybe in america only? im sorry i just wanted to throw that in there even if it is probably bs!

I wonder if it was a 997 or 996

In the article it says the car had covered 98,000 miles s it must be a 996. Nice a loose.

GT1 is a 3.2, my apologies. I suppose a GT2 would apply.

My money is on a late 964 or 993.

Got it. I just find "involuntary" a poor descriptor, as voluntariness will actually be an element to manslaughter.

LONDON, England (AP) -- A rental car worker who was clocked at 276 kph (172 mph) in his company's Porsche was ordered jailed Monday for 10 weeks.

Tim Brady arrives at Oxford Crown Court on Monday to hear the verdict.

Tim Brady, 33, who was caught January 27, became the fastest speeder ever convicted in Britain. He beat the previous record -- 251 kph -- set by car dealer Jason McAllister in 2003.

Brady was caught driving the $198,000 Porsche 911 Turbo, which he took from his employer, luxury car rental firm HelpHire, authorities said.

Brady had nagged his boss to take the Porsche out the day before, but was repeatedly told no, authorities said.

Judge David Morton called the act "criminally self-indulgent."

"(You were) utterly thoughtless of the danger you might be creating for the innocent," he told Brady.

Brady, who admitted to dangerous driving, was banned from driving for three years and will have to take a new driving test before taking to the road again.

He quit his job a day after he was caught.

Because it was taken on indictment. Traffic offences are usually dealt with summarily. BTW, the presiding judge is named as Judge David Morton Jack by the Guardian. CNN got it wrong, it seems.
