My aunt's 40k mile Prius blew a hole through the engine block on Friday. She is worried that they won't warranty it (5yr / 60,000mi). She can prove all oil changes, but her current oil was on 5,000 miles and she thinks they might not warranty it because of that. I think the recommended is 3,000 miles. Anyone hear of past warranty experiences with dead motors, for any company?
~yes, the motor was replaced under warranty

Hmmm, Toyota seem to be having a lot of quality problems as of late. I guess that is one of the cost of growing too big too fast.
I remember before Honda/Toyota engines would last 200k miles without any major problems.
Personally I never thought that the Prius would be very reliable anyways. Plus the cost of changing out that battery is just a huge deterrent for me. But that's cool that she got her engine replaced from Toyota.
But no answer your question, no, no personal experience with dead motor warranty. :)
was its a crack in the block or did it throw a rod or piston?

On the contrary the Prius is one of the most unreliable cars they have ever built.
Umm, how is that "on the contrary"? I said that I did not think the Prius would be reliable.
