can anyone recommend a 70/200 or a 70/300 lense that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? It has to fit a canon 400d/rebel xti

If you don't want to spend L lenses money, go for the 70-300 F4.5/5.6 IS. I used it for more than a year and it's a brillant lense

^I was looking at a 200mm lense, wich has much better light
Amazon.com: Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG APO HSM Large Aperture Macro Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras: Electronics

any thoughts?

If you dont want the canon version that is the next best choice. The no arm and a leg part of your requirements was misleading though. The 70-200 2.8 is one of my favorite lenses. It depends what u want in a lense though. Length or speed.

I'd still go for a Canon lense instead of Sigma, but I'm just paranoid probably.

Sigma quality is quite good now and when it costs half as much its a very good choice. As long as you compare equal levels of glass.

Yup, the way to go in 70-300-land IMHO. It's supposed to be a "hidden-L"...

well...this is what I ended up with

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
Amazon.com: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo

the low dollar exhange rate makes it perfect to get it from the US for us norwegians. ver half the price of what you have to pay in norway. I found mine on ebay,

crossing my fingers that it will arrive before the 10th so I can bring it to the NS

After carrying it around all day, my neck sure was sore as if I went to a headbanging Heavy Metal concert, and I had a hell of a headache!.... BUT.... it was worth it! :) :) :)

Congrats, surely does look like a beast! :D I'm interested in what you guys do with these massive lenses when you are using another lens? Do you have a special bag or carrying case for it? My camera bag is in no way large enough to put that sucker in...

Exactly the same backpack I got myself. A bit big, but needed.

As for the neck pain, nth, only solution is to carry your camera on the shoulder, not around the neck anymore ;)
