Is fishing a sport? I think it is when you have a GT, Tuna or Marlin on the other end!
I was just wondering are there any fishermen/women who buys their gear online and particular in the US? I'm after some G.Loomis rods. The AUD is so good against the USD, these rods are a bargain compared to buying it here. I've been to a few sites and they sell at RRP, seeing if there are stores that sell under the RRP

You won't find too many places selling G Loomis for less that retail. There is no incentive to sell them for less since so many are willing to fork out the full price.
St Croix rods are nicer anyway. :P

So you fish a lot 666fast?
From what i've read St Croix is good but they very rare here. I don't think theres an official distributor here. Loomis is much more common and at least i get to have a feel before i buy. The reason i don't want to buy a Loomis rod here is because these prices are dated way back. A 335USD rod cost 790AUD. Nowadays 335USD should be about 390AUD. But i understand they have to sell at that prices if they had them a while ago

I fish when I can, I've only made it out a few times this year so far.
St Croix rods are not too common here either. I'm sure most people don't buy them. I've only got one and it was a gift, I'd never spend that much on a rod. IMO, the only item that should be somewhat expensive is the reel. You could put a good reel on a log and still catch fish, but you won't get shit with a crap reel. heh
I've ordered from these guys before http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/ but I have no idea if they ship internationally.

Not common, what state do you live in?
Around me, only the big chain stores carry them. Cabela's and such. Even then, they'll only have a few on hand. Not many people will spend $200+ on a rod.

I've looked at that link and they don't stock all the rods. www.tackledirect.com seems to stock nearly the whole range and they do international shipping.
I agree reels are important but sometimes the fish gets a bit tentative and thats when you need the feel from the rod. Actually Loomis ain't expensive compared to Japanese made rod. I once fished with a group of Japanese tourists on a charter and they had really expensive gear but they are a work of art. Their tour guide told me good ones range from 90k-100k yen. He said 50k yen are just average
Which species do you normally go for? i normally go for Kingfish, they're called California Yellowtail where you're from. I like em because they are pure muscle and dirty fighters, they'll bust you off with anything they can find. Also, they're available in rivers, but the monsters are offshore. Thats where game gear is required.

I mainly go for Pike. Lots of muscle and they hit very very hard. Muskie are fun too, but there is a reason they are called "the fish of a thousand casts" I think in my entire life, I've caught maybe 10.
Bass, Walleye, Carp and Sturgeon are lots of fun too.
