I'm sorry I could n't help my self. Lets see if this guy spends as much time in jail as Paris Hilton.
And this is a car thread cause Trey was doing 100 mph when he was pulled over in his Prius. Tough being the son of an environmentalist when you like to go fast.

I was nearly taken out by a Prius doing 100 mph, and nobody believed me. I would've been done for if it weren't for my keen eye on the rear view mirror.

So let here it for him being environmental.. oh wait... 100 mph in a hybrid means the car was under gas power and was sucking gasoline... nevermind.

I almost pissed myself laughing when i read this. And not because the reported speed of the prius was 100mph.

The first thing I thought was "A Prius can go that fast!?!?!? No way!". I don't see him going to prison for this, if convicted. The article says he's only previously been arrested, never charged.

Being Al Gore's son has its perks.

Well people seem to go to prison for quite short periods of time in the US. Not much point, IMO. Just whack them on suspended sentences or good behaviour bonds so they actually work to change their ways over a period of time. Of course, it didn't work for Paris Hilton.
what makes me sick is that the LA Times tried to put a pro-hybrid spin on this story. They said something to the effect of, "oh look, hybrids can be sporty too." Any new car today can hit 110 mph. With decent aerodynamics and not too much frontal area, 110 mph doesn't require that much horsepower (as evidenced by this Prius)
Do you think Al Gore will buy some more Carbon credits to pay for his son's recent environmental sin?

^I think he'll just spend money on a good defence lawyer.

Al Gore III pled guilty today to two counts of felony drug posession. If he successfully completes a drug program all charges will be dropped as if it never happened. He will not spend any time in jail. He received a traffic citation for pushing the Prius to 100 mph. There was no mention of driving under the influence.
I dont have a problem at all with how this is being handled by the courts. Everybody makes mistakes.

Do Americans use the term "felony" really loosely, because a felony here essentially refers to a serious crime with a maximum punishment of 25 years imprisonment or life imprisonment?

I didnt know so I checked Wikipedia.
Misdemeanor - petty theft, prostitution, public intoxication, simple assault, disorderly conduct, trespass, vandalism
Felony - aggravated assault and/or battery, arson, burglary, some instances of drug possession (dependent on the jurisdiction, often possession over a certain weight, based on the type of drug, is held to indicate intent to sell or distribute), embezzlement, grand theft, treason, espionage, racketeering, robbery, murder, rape, cannabis cultivation and fraud. A third offense for driving under the influence is also a felony in most states.
I didnt know prostitution was only a misdemeanor. For drug possession it depends on what it is. He had a bunch of pills that are highly controlled so thats probably why it was a felony.

Oh, OK, so a felony in the US is basically an imprisonable offence.
But, yeah, I agree that there doesn't seem to be much of an issue with the process here. Drugs possession is not really viewed that harshly anymore, despite strong penalties for supply. Besides, unlike Paris Hilton, this guy has never been convicted.

Because it isn't an offence. It's only if you cause a racket and start committing real crimes that police care.
