the past week 3 pop ups have apeard on my computer saying that there is a virus alert, and gives me the option to clean the computer using a antivirus...if i click ok another pop up comes out telling me if i want to buy a antivirus.... do u guys think is only a advertisement pop or is true that my comp is infected or what? i have had some problems with system32.exe and iexplorer.exe i know i have to reinstall windows for that problem but i know for shure is not a virus, ca anyone recomend me a free antivirus that i can dl or something alike? thanx to ya'l

you should also get ad aware. Those pop ups are caused by spybots. Go to Lavasoft.com and download ad aware. It will make your computer faster an cleaner because it will remove those nasty bots.

Also use a Web Browser like Mozilla that has a pop-up blocker built in I've never seen one since I used it, and yes those are just ads also do what DeMoN said and get Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy both find different spyware on your computer trust me they are both necessary, one is never enough. I suggest investing in a good Antivirus program like Norton or McAfee they are lifesavers. If you bought your computer over the counter (from a manufacturer not built at home) it should have one installed already.

It's definately not a virus, but to be sure download Kasperkys Antyvirus...in the demo version you get all the options in a 30 day period :)
Do not trust thoso pop ups.. All of them are useless..
I`m usin NortonAntivirus 2003 Professional Full..
Everyweek its automaticly updatin.. Never had a problem about viruses..
I can advice u Norton.. + it has some good tools 2.. (comin with antivirus)

I use Panda Antivirus.
I use Google Toolbar, which stops pop-ups in IE.
I also use Ad-Aware and Spybot, both of which gets ride of spyware.

A friend told me about the AVG antivirus package. They have a free version with unlimited updates.
