inspired by this thread (http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?p=830145#830145)

10 things i would change about driving in my country if i were in charge:

1. Say goodbye to the speed limit, except for rush hours. Minimum speed limits WILL be imposed and enforced instead.

2. Driver's licenses will be much harder and more expensive to obtain. Included in the mandatory driver's training will be proper use of a freeway on ramp, precision car control (ie what to do if your car gets sideways or spins out).

3. Elderly drivers will be required to retest every 2 years or sooner depending on driving record. Family members can request they be retested as well.

4. In order to drop gas prices, more domestic oil fields will be opened for drilling.

5. Insurance companies are going to have the leash tightened. Since not everyone and their dog will be given a license, they shouldn't have to worry about the retards getting on the road and making them pay out. Therefore, rates will drop.

6. The first budget to be looked at is going to be the highway budget. If people are going to be putting their foot down, the roads are going to need to be smoothed out..

7. Federal safety guidelines will be in place for a National Vehicle Safety Inspection due with emissions inspection for registration renewal. This will make every state conform to the same requirements for vehicle inspections ensuring the road worthiness of the vehicles that are driving around you. There are way too many driving around that shouldn't be.

8. Inner city freeways will be clear of semi trucks. How? They will have their own special freeways. Why? because traffic seems to move much smoother without those things lumbering around. Oakland has a stretch of 580 that prohibits all trucks over 4 and a half tons from driving on it. The road is in better shape, and traffic flows sooooooo well. Outside of the cities, learn to share.

9. no more right of way for pedestrians. crosswalks will be a thing of the past. there will now be sky-bridges over every intersection. If you get creamed crossing the street, it's your own damn fault. You should have used the sky bridge. Bicyclists, no more special treatment. You have to follow the same rules as the cars do already, but since the car is bigger and easier to see than you are, cars get right of way.

10. Sat-Nav with audible instructions will be standard in all cars. No more retards with bad directions going 5 mph reading street signs because they don't know where the fuck they are going. Bluetooth will also be standard and no cell phone in the US will be sold without it. Text messaging will be disabled when bluetooth is paired. No vanity mirrors in the sun visors either. In fact, the interior rearview will be replaced by a HUD system feeding a live video feed of what's going on behind out thanks to a camera in the trunk lid. Only the side mirrors will remain. (this rule should pretty much cut out the distractions)

So what would you guys do?

Making the driver's licence test too expensive is discriminatory against those who can't afford to shell out shitloads of money for the training. And I am firmly against satellite navigation. I am perfectly capable of reading maps and navigating the earth without relying on electronics, as convenient as they are.

Otherwise, top stuff!

If I were in charge....

No "no-bid" contracts lasting 300 years would exist for road work, and mandatory thickness of the asphalt would be maintained... a-la Autoban+++

No emmissions testing, because who the fuck cares... i want my race fueled, no-cat machine to burn whatever I want it to, when I want it to ~ like Michigan

Push through the expansion of refineries, put more research $$ into the oil sands of canada, and expand North American drilling.

Re-calculate the rate of inflation based on goods rather then energy

to reduce "carbon emmsions" (actually, thats not why) expand nuclear energies accross the board.... good, clean, cheap energy! (re previous statement) This would also curb oil consumptions/cost

require extensive econ classes in high school.... there are too many idiots out there cough cough, Bart Stupak) who want more and more government control over enterprise, and consumer spending.... aka, another end of freedom.

Federal/state funded universities/community colleges are all 100% paid for through tax dollers of various sorts. One cannot get "in-state" residence, nor "federal residence" without first paying into the tax system for a minimum of 5 years, or thier parents a minimum of 5 years. .... I'm tired of foriegn nationals filling up our higher education systems while paying the same rate that I do, and also having no intention of staying in the USA once graduated.... thus giving the rest of us a greater burdan to carry to give them a chance. What BS.

Lifestyles cannot be expressed in any public classroom.... ~swinger, gay, poligamist, etc. Let the parents do the parenting, and decide who and what thier children learn. It isn't something "we must all tollerate, and except"

the 10 commandments will be in every public face of law, prayer can be lead by any who choose to do so, in any public setting, but no special areas will be designated for any religion, nor special times set asside. Separate teh state from the church, but not the church from those in the state.

Boarders will be secure, and any illegal attempting to cross will be warned twice in the assumed native tounge, and local tounge before being shot if they do not return from wence they came. I would expect the same treatment of US citizens on any other foriegn sovereign territory.

All polliticians will be required to hold no more then 2 terms in the senate (12 years), 4 ( 8 years) tearms in the house, and the same 2 terms in teh white house. They can run from one area of congress to the other, and in that maximum 20 years, they don't become president, there is nothing more that they can do. The congress is meant to be a living government, and when people reside there for 20, 30, 40, 50 years are doing nothing for the betterment of the nation.

No congressman, nor district will recieve any exception to any federal law passed by the congress and signed into law by the president.

The tax code will be able to be fully interpreted by any high schooler.

NEA will change focus to one promoting personal success, and exemplifying students who do so.

Health insurance will be able to have as much personal control as auto insurance, which can be changed at any time to reflect what is current to the individual.

Welfare will have a time stipulation; and will include assistance to change residence to help locate in a booming market, shortly after which, there will be continued reduced assistance. The time stipulation will not be measured in years. (Remember, free higher education allows for training even to those who may already have a degree which may not yield a good job)

oh, there is a lot more i'd do.... but, thats good for now :)

The supream court shall review all additional ammendments to the constitution, and determine which of them are redundant, and which ammendments shall be delegated to the states. This will be done without any specific case for or against an ammendment.

Some real great points nth, but I feel like the majority of those changes are near impossible.

I would definitely like to see more nuclear power stations as well as designated areas for wind farms and incentives for solar powered house holds and neighborhoods.

Autobahn-engineered highways in the US something I dream of every time I commute from Boston <-> NY.

I said change DRIVING! fuck all that other shit. it can be worked out later.

Making the driver's license test too expensive is discriminatory against those who can't afford to shell out shit loads of money for the training.

Since driving is a privilege, not a right, there will still be public transportation. If you can afford a driver's license then you can afford insurance. It's only discriminatory to people who otherwise would be out there with no insurance. This is enforced in 2 ways: Driver's licenses/vehicle registration will not be renewed without proof of financial responsibility. Insurance companies will report to the state any driver's license number that cancels their policy so that the license will be suspended. There are people out there who only buy insurance for the insurance cards. once they have the cards, they cancel the policy. That way when they get pulled over, they have proof of insurance, without actually having insurance. So, that puts an end to that.

besides, not everyone in Europe drives. And if you think about the cost involved with driving just as it is now, it actually helps the people who can't afford it, to save money.

And a riot insues after so many accidents

GM and Ford need to make S6, RS6, M5 competitors so better free trade can be established with Euro compeditors. Then you'd need what? Another 20 years of "grooming" before you could even have a shot at this idea. The fact is, this wont happen in America unless you run.

Your presidents are groomed so you'd better get started, on both an education and alot of money!

Try legalizing pot while you're at it though

Be a cocky prick and study this guy to the last detail!!!

CTS-V is a great competitor to the M5 and other euro sport sedans. But other than that, I can't think of anything else that would be worthy.

Youll have to kill off the UAW first.. or make the other automakers employee them.

Well, at last resort you could always sack them and get Mexicans (legally) to work at the plants.

I reckon men and women should have different tests. It is already proven that they drive in different manners.

SInce you've got all the car related issues already covered.
1. Too small clothes on fat people during summer would be banned
2. Too small clothes on sexy girls during summer would be mandatory

LOL!

Great stuff guys!
