Well...cars for me is the most important thing...i think that i am one of the few that make part of the fanatic cars group....i guess to say fanatic is few..but, let´s start with the important thing

Last year, precisely in August 03...i was on ICQ, talking to my friends..and i decidec to ride...
.i´m from Brazil....and i always stay here talking until midnight or more...

My parents always go to sleep early, i think 11:00 pm... and i stay here until 02:30 am or more...

Last year, almost every day i gone for a drive on the streets of São paulo, my city, here in Brazil... These "cruising fast drives" were ALWAYS with my parents sleeping, because if they catch me going out...well, i´ll be dead...

Then, in August 03 i gone for a very very fast ride, and i took my camera too, to record every thing...that was nice...every thing was perfect...
That time was just the eighth of all times that i gone out at midnight for a ride... It´s very hard, i have to open the doors with total silence, like James Bond... In the afternoon is most easy...

Then i put the camera onboard, in the head-seat of the passenger seat...well, was complicated, but i get
Then i started the engine, like Indianapolis 500 starting hehe =P
"Gentleman, Start your Engines!!"

well, i gone out for a ride..a fast ride...

here in São paulo, there are good streets to run, with good asphalt, but there some a litle bad, then i had to take care with speed and handling...
the car was a Chevrolet Corsa 1.0...yeah, i know that is a shit, but, i guess that nobody did what i did, and nobody will do what i did, with the same car....The car is slow at acceleration, and not so good at corners..well, it´s a front wheel drive car!

But who knows how to drive, drive in any car...
Then i was driving through the avenues very fast, there were fewww cars on the streets, and i was driving always up to 140 kph( for a 1.0 car, it´s too fast!)

I tried to make all corners with full gas, wheel spin at all time, very funny noise...the car understeer at all time, because i took the corners at the limit of the few handling of my corsa...so, even on a slow car, it was very adrenaline rush!

The overall braking of it is few too, so, even he doesn´t runing quickly, i have to brake not inside the turn, but a lithe before, because it´s a front wheel drive car, and, if u tap the brakes into the corner, the front of the car slide down through the corner very hard, and u lose control, and crash!...so, i had to make a shift-lock every time the corner was arriving and i was at highspeed, to brake and down the gears..one by one, like in a real race hehe =P

There´s an avenue here, near my house, very long straight, i calculate about 2.4 KM, but with many many junctions..it´s VERY VERY dangerous to pass there at highspeeds, about 160, 170 km/h...but i passed, lucky!
So this avenue starts on a litle descent, and then continues on a very long plane straight...to run there with full gas, it´s like to ride on a roller coaster hehe...very exciting... i traped almost the top speed of my corsa(really, it´s my mama´s corsa hehe)...the top speed is 185 km/h or almost 115 mph...i traped there on the straight 170 km/h... if u think that
it´s not too fast, then try to go this fast on this car on a street avenue...just full gas at all time!!
The avenue has about 2.4 km of extension, i ran it in exactly 60 seconds...

Well, i can´t tell everything because the ride was to cool...
If u want to see the movie, i leave it sharing on the Kazaa every day, and on Emule too..the name there, both kazaa and emule is

Getaway in Brazil - Speed The Art of Driving

It´s a movie with about 172 MB, but it´s nice to see, worth the download
=]

i would love if u download it, because i want that it became so famous as getaway in stockholm ...so, if u want to help me and share it..download it on kazaa or emule

i can also upload the video to u at ICQ, if u want...

well, it´s all..if u want to talk to me, anything, i´m always at ICQ

my number is 150210631

my nickname in everyplace is VeilSide

and my email is:

then, see u later guys...until the next...Bye!!

You will drive someone to death!!!! Don't be so proud on the things you do. Go race on a circuit and become the new Senna!

Go race on a circuit

I have to second that... to do such things is something.. to be so proud is another thing... if you really can't avoid risking your life, at least be stealthy... e all love to drive fast and everybody did dumb things, but still...

That's rich... you are more concerned about this guy "driving someone to death" with a 1l Corsa, than you are about attacking others who post videos of street drifting and full on street races in 500hp cars...

1.0L Corsa or not, 180km/h is 180km/h. This topic just got my eye. Being stupid is indeed one thing, but to be proud of it? It's seems to me that the intention of him is to be as dangerous as possible.

Have you sent emails with similar sentiments to the Ghostrider and the "Getaway in Stockholm" folks yet? ;)

I am guessing they are not advertising "Drivers Education" with their videos either.. :D

dont be stupid you'll regret some day...you could kill yourself or kill others!, i only 17 too (just a week ago), i have done stupid things to, i have raced my mom's car upto 160kph, but i was on a straight line of like 5 km with no cars, with no intersections and i shitted my pants, to hit curves at high speed and running tru intersections is really stupid, i see that we both and maybe everyone here has "the need for speed", but take care of yourself and others too, i have heard many stories of bad chrashes and the drivers where either killed or vegetals, bad shit for just a moment, a few of my "friends" (i didn't know them too much), where killed while doing stupid crap!!, dont wait to lose your legs arms or whatever to learn the lesson!! take care! 8)

That's how I learned to drive - stealing my parents cars ;)

We even had a "midnight driving club" at school - the clubs original purpose was to settle an argument about whose dad's car was quickest - the one with the 1983 Golf GTi or the 1984 BMW 318i....

Turned out to be neither - top end went to the dentists's son - the car we commandeered was his dad's 1982 Jaguar XJ saloon car... ;)

The biggest surprise of all was how well my dad's Datsun Pulsar 1400 4 speed did. If driven insanely enough, I could stick with the GTi on the 90 degree turns of the urban landscape... ;)

The big bust happened when the dentist's wife woke up and called the cops because some one had "stolen" their Rover 3500 and their Jag.. LOL.

My co-pilot and I almost got away with it, because we had already returned my dad's car and were walking to my other friends house by the time the phone call was made to my house ---- but their was a little problem.... :D

I was standing at the side of the road, trying to explain to the cops why we were on the street at 3am - while he had dispatch phone my dad and get him to come fetch me - except I still had his car keys in my pocket... :D LOL

p.s. You will be surprised what you can get up to in a VW Microsbus... ;)

Yes RC, I did it myself too of course... it was just some months before I was able to pass my driving license, and it was not very smart to do, but of course I think many did...

But it was a SECRET I kept for myself and a couple of friends... to go on and post around like if you did the best thing in the world seems stupid IMO, sorry...

And don't talk about Getaway in Stockholm.. I know that can push somebody to emulate them, but basically the same as violent videogames that ppl always accuse when a teen begin to act crazy...

Same here - its a secret - a secret between me, my friends, their and my parents and about 15 cops.. ;) LOL

And our concerns about our "friend" from Brazil bragging about his exploits at the time the happened - short of puting him in jail, he will need to live his life and come to his own conclusions about what is right or wrong... I am sure he knows... and if something happens, he will suffer the consequences... as would we all...

p.s. how can we NOT talk about Getaway? For goodness sake - even the PGR2 makers credit Getaway in Stockholm with some ideas... so they have had an impact.

Someway you are right... but you are 36.. I'm am 24... I'm sure we see things different as we saw them years ago.. and I'm not sure the moments I was doing stupid things I was really aware of the possible consequences...

RC45

and I'm not sure the moments I was doing stupid things I was really aware of the possible consequences...

None of us did, or we would not have done them... we were lucky enough to get through those times...

But the downside is, if we try tell younger folks to "not do it - we did and it was bad - bad things can happen" --- they will always counter with "but you did it, and nothing bad happened - why can't I do it"....

The answer is as complex as being a parent - a balance between structure & rules and freedom & self control...

TT
01-17-2004, 06:20 PM
Yes, right... of course I could happen a person I knew (not a close friend, but still), is not lucky enough to be here thinking about those things.. he was not lucky at all... and the fact 99% of us got through doesn't bring him back I guess...

This type of story is probably the only way you can appeal to someone you are trying to show the negative possible results - but then all you can do afterwards is hope they really listen to you and hear what you are saying... or maybe get busted by the cops before they hurts themselves or someone else...

its been said already but sorry doing stuff like that on public streets is moronic and irresponsible. U even admitted yourself it was extremely dangerous so why do u keep on risking your life and the life of the innocent person you might hit. Please do you city a favor and go to a track to test your car's limits.

SFDMALEX
01-17-2004, 07:07 PM
If you want to show off your skill, or have some good fun take the car to a race track. Now there you need skill. Anybody can blast through an intersection, luck is all you need in that case. To be honest I dont find what you did cool. If you set a good lap time around some racetrack, that would be cool, risking yours and others life's is not cool, its just stupid. It is not brave iether.

You are right - "taking it to a race track" is not as easy as people make it sound... it takes money, a car that passes scrutineering, a track closeby etc etc ....

The truth is that "speed" is a sport that takes money - and it is cheaper to simply "go fast on the streets" - and until cars are governed to 80km/h, everyone is thrown in jail or race tracks appear in every neighbour hood - people will always be "pushing the envelope" in public.

Who knows what the answer is....

mhn3773
01-17-2004, 09:13 PM
whatever the answer is it wont be easy to find..they can govern the cars but that can be bypassed with some work

they can up the police patrolling but chances are that will only stop a small %

the sat night drags in sac was a good step though they made it cheap and easy to go there so i know a lot of people like to take the action there. but for some people simply going fast in a straight line isn't enough. sry for the bad punctuation

The least thing he could do is find a stretch of road outside the city limits where he has clear vision and the possibility to react to the situation in sufficient time. Driving through a city across intersections at 180 km/h in a car with weak brakes and bad handling is just stupid. If another car pulls out of a side street the chances for an accident are very high. And that means not only hurting or killing himself, but other people as well. Putting the pedal to the metal doesn't impress me at all. Good driving involves lots more than that. Speed always needs to be adjusted to the circumstances. Looking ahead and anticipating on the fact a car might turn into the road you're driving on at the moment is part of that. Crossing your fingers and feeling lucky if you make it across obviously is not. You always have to be able to come to a halt within the distance you see is clear and take circumstances that can suddenly shorten that distance (such as upcoming intersections) into account.

I know I run the risk of sounding like an old nag, but it's a fact. It's the only way in which you can enjoy driving your car and have a good chance of telling others about it afterwards. There's plenty of fun in being a good, fast but safe road driver as well.

u can say all that..and tell him how dangerous it is and how stupid

but the only way to learn is to do it so ur kinda wasting ur breath..i have never meet anyone that could learn with out doing

some people chose not to do stupid things other people like me seem to end up doing stupid things if u are not one of the people like me u will never understand. chances are he knows its dangerous and stupid

i agree with the fast but safe road driver..just our opinons might differ sometimes  u dont sound like a nag either it has to be said ...thats how things are people say and kids say go

Well, perhaps the video it's cool but, and sorry to say that, I think you are quite stupid. I like very much driving fast with the car, and I'm conscious I take some risks doing that but I never put the other people in the road in danger.
If you want to risk your live in the road, ok, it's your choice but let the other people to choose for themselves. You can really kill someone doing this kinds of things, and that's a very serious question...

If an un-insured driver ever crashed into me, they would not know what hit them....and I don't mean in terms of a fight. In the UK at least, the courts throw the book at you, insurance co. either won't touch you or will charge stupid prices when you do eventually get a licence.

Anyone seen the vid yet?

TT
01-18-2004, 01:26 PM
BTW just curious, jon can answer at least for UK.. how is the situation considered usually? Over here, even if it's your parent's car, it is also considered as a normal theft...

zevolv
01-18-2004, 01:29 PM
In Illinois (US) if you get pulled over and your not on the Insurance card or the registration they will call the owner and ask if you are allowed to be driving the car.

jon_s
01-18-2004, 01:32 PM
Humm theft, an interesting point, it is not theft over here as one of the requirements for theft is 'intending to permanently deprive the owner of the property' (not the exact words but to that effect)

If you take your parents car, you are unlikely to want to steal it properly as it is returned in the morning. The same is true of joy riders! When they take the car they only want to thrash about in it then dump it.......therefore no permanent deprivation. There is a whole separate offence for such situations, and I can't remember what it is off hand lol.

I saw the vid-- for 12 mins of driving the video was huge - alot of turns - hard to tell how fast the car is actually going from the camera angle- most of the video was 80km/h-120km/h. He hits 140 a few times and 180ish on a straight - there are very few cars on the road and it looks very late.

I have gone 165 on a highway and it did not feel fast at all- so i can't imagine 180km/h is really that fast. I remember posts here where alot of people stated the fastest speed they have driven- there were alot of 130-150 mph and then some 160-180 mph, so I'd imagine its hard for you guys to be impressed by 180km/h!

veilsidebr
01-19-2004, 12:09 AM
Well, let´s remember that is a Corsa 1.0, so, i couldn´t be faster, because the engine is just 60 horsepowers. But for this car it was so fast, considering his 0-100Km/h(62mph) in about 17 seconds.

If i was with a 2.0 liter car, or even a turbochargered, i guess i could trap 200km/h or more, but, i don´t have this one.

I completely agree with you. I'm all for having some fun and maybe taking a turn a bit too fast or something late at night, but going 180 km/h down city streets in an underpowered, underbraked POS is just dumb. If he flattened someone's family member or something I'm sure some of the big balls "he's not doing any harm" guys might see straight. There should be a region where common sense stops you from doing something--you don't have to do everything retarded to know it's wrong. (We'd all be dead from sticking our heads out car windows or jumping off of roofs by now if this was the case.)
