Saw my first R8 in the flesh today as it passed me on Autobahn A60 at what seemed to be warp speed! Went to the Audi dealer in town and there it was straight from the factory with Ingolstadt plates, this light met blue car sat getting ready to take off for a test drive with two younger gentlemen and damn i wish i was in their spot at that given moment. Looked inside and a silver one was on the floor with a special R8 showcase.
The car in the flesh is a beautiful thing it sits so damn low and seems poised to move fast at any given moment (same way the Audi's moved in I Robot). The front end just asks to swallow air or people if one to were get in its way, the vents are menacing. Tires were 295 rears which are decent size but i was expecting something around 305 to get things started. It was riding on P Zero Heros i believe.
On start up the car didn't really impress me much as I was expecting a more deeper rumble from the V-8. If the R8 is a special model and something to set Audi forward then they should of made it sound that way too!
For me though it would be a great car to have and drive in great comfort and interior styling. Sadly ,for me at least, the car doesn't move me the way a Porsche does. For the price I would take a GT3(track attacks) or Turbo (for all out hauling on the road). Too bad I can't afford any of these so my 987S will have to do...for now
