It helps to start off slow. Set reasonable and achievable goals.

What do I mean? Here's a simple goal: "Actually go to the gym." (Vs. run 5 miles in 30 minutes that's pretty attainable Smile)

Once you're there then start small there as well. I started by walking (I mean WALKING) on a treadmill. I would go at 3.5 MPH (don't know that in kilos, sorry!) and alternate 5 minutes flat then 5 minutes uphill...and so on for only 30-35 minutes at a time.

Make working out an easy commitment to your lifestyle - and make sure you don't discourage yourslef by comparing your progress to others. I can promise you your success is totally dependant on your attitude. It should be pretty easy as long as you take small steps forward.

I always found it safe when I was more fit, and wanting to loose weight that I just did things in moderation, and i was exersising regularly... 3x cardio + about 3x strength... not always on the same day....

well, cardio was usually 5x per week...

anway, pok, wanna have a competition to see who makes 20 kg first?

FYI, i'm 265 lbs(give or take) and thats about... hmm... 120-130 kg, so maybe it's an unfair advantage towared me, but hey, its a friendly bit.

I could starve and throw up everything I eat...if there wasn't a chance of death involved. :P

bodybuilding.com has some nice tips...

If you eat sugar, it causes an insulin spike, and this in turn will cause your body to transform the nutrients you consume, into fat, rather then offloading it to your muscles which would help them grow.

I've started going down to the gym since a few weeks now. I eat more, but I eat more carefully. If I do it right, I should be able to lift an extra 10lb or so each week.

Also drink a lot of water, not only does it fill you up, but water is needed by your body to burn fat out of the cells. This also means that you should consume less salt (salt is good for you, but in moderation). Too much salt causes your body to expel water from the cells, and this in turn causes it to be much harder to burn fat.

Some vegetables like cucumber actually burn more calories then it gives you due to your body trying to get energy out of it.

You should also eat more often, but smaller quantities. If you only eat twice a day (lunch and dinner), you're starving your body in between. Since your body feels hungry, it will become lethargic and try to convert energy into fat, and also it decides that the best place for energy is your muscles, so it eats that first.

Nowadays, I eat a fair sized healthy breakfast at around 8, a fruit at 10, lunch at 12, more fruit or snack at 14 or 15:00, more fruit and snack at 17:00, dinner at 19:00, and then a final think before I go to bed. If I do gym (3 times a week), I do it at around 17:00 meaning I eat my snack an hour earlier, and right after gym I have a whey protein shake.

A glass of milk is a good way to go before sleep. Gives you slow burning nutrients and keeps you full.

etc... etc...

Eliminate carbs ;)

For sheezy, same story for me too. I gave up carbs and gave up soft drinks my junior and senior years in high school and lost about 5 lbs easily w/in 2 weeks. I probably lost much more fat than that but I also had a personal trainer the whole time so I was throwing on a lot of muscle too.

+1

I cannot brag that I have lost much weight(from 120 to 105 in about 2-3 months) as I still look like behemoth in the pics   but it would be probably much more effective with some kind of physical activity 8)

I'd recomend to read this book were it is explained why people cannot lose weight even on good diets, whats happening with the body with age. Some people eat really small amount of food and still cant loose weight I personally thought they are bullshitting me but here is explained why and how to change it to normal. Its readable and understandable not a boring full of terms book.

running is the best way to loose weight

well first off, Im not sure what the extent of your injuries are.......but assuming you made a full recorvery it should be VERY simple:

1. Cut out sugar. This is even more important then cutting out burgers and such. Lots of research shows that sugar, rather then say pizza or burgers, is the number one reason for weight gain/retention. That means no more sugar loaded coffee, no more soda, no more juices (juice often has even more sugar then soda), etc.......I switched to sugar free naturally flavored sparkling water. I prefer the raspberry-lime myself. Its all natural, sugar free, and it tastes pretty darn good considering. Its also basically pure water accept for a little esssence of lime and raspberry so its what your body is suppossed to be taking in: H20

2. Eat you meals earlier in the day. You should avoid eating anything heavy after 6:00 PM (I'd actually say 4:30 really but lots of people find that one too hard and cant stick it), especially if you are going to be sedentary in the evening. Remmember, anything you have left in your system when you go to sleep is more likely to get converted to fat. You largest meal should be breakfast because its starting you off and you have all day to burn the calories. Also you should eat more smaller means rather then 2 or 3 huge meals in the day.

3. Eat healthier. I used to be all about burgers and pizza. Now it makes me sick just to think of fast food. It took about 6 months to completely change my diet to the point that I started actually craving healthy foods rather then junk food......but after that it was easy. Until that point it was a daily struggle to eat tofu and beans and lentils and such rather then pizza. It really was tough but hey....it aint meant to be easy now is it!!

4. Run. Running is an EXCELLENT way to lose weight. You can run a track or if you get bored doing that you can run around town and such and change up the route so it stay interesting. Also you can run stairs or go to any football stadium and run the belachers. That is an excellent exercise to add to your routine.

5. Drink plenty of water. Water helps you body carry away toxins, it improves your skin, it helps keep you going, etc. Water is all you need to drink. Avoid that gatorade shit unless you are really really going for it and you need to replace your salt and such.. ....but for most people water is all you need.

6. Lift weights. Yes, lifting will make you lose weight unless you are taking whey protein supplements and doing heavy weights. I suggest a high reps, low weight routine that will build lean muscle mass and improve your endurance.

7. Get a good nights sleep. This is one of the most underatted and ignored aspected of weight gain. Numerous studies released show a direct correlation between weight gain and erratic sleep patterns, especially when those people are not getting 8 hours of sleep. If you arnt tired enough to get 8 hours then you arnt doing enough in your day. Your simply not active enough!!!

8. Be patient and positive. Dont go expecting to see immediate results. I spent 2 years of my life training for the Army (was planning on going into the special forces) hardcore. I was out there running and lifting every single day. Literally nothing stopped me. My improvements came in spurts. I would spend a few weeks at a certain point, both in terms of cardio and strength, and then WHAM I would pass a plateau and see improvements. So dont get discouraged if you cant run 20 miles after only a month training. Dont expect to.

9. Be consistent. Consistency is one of the most important things in any fitness routine. Establish a baseline routine and stick with it no matter what.

10. Mental. Do not think of this as a weight lose routine. Plan a schedule you can keep for the rest of your life so you can maintain your routine and not do the whole lose-gain yoyo. You must accept that you have to work to stay fit for the rest of your life. You dont get fit munching chips and watching TV.

11. And finally, start now. Dont delay. Just get out and do it.

Good luck :)

I have been slowly loosing weight easily... It's called manual labor 10 hours a day and in the summer it's like a sweat shop. sadly I can't do the running thing and even alot of walking can f*ck my knee up to where I need to pop some Percs the next day.

I just cut back on my overall food intake and very little pop. I've gone from 300 to 260 since last year I'm going slowly. oh and Don't drink Alcohol alot.

I don't think weight is an altogether perfect indicator of health and fitness. Muscles still weigh something. Looking at your weight is a bit vain, to be honest. Cutting down on the fat makes you internally healthier, and exercising more is the way to improve cardiovascular fitness and muscle stamina, and weight loss and slimming is just a nice effect.

I think most of us here on JW could use some more moving around and not in a car.....my self included...
The problem today are that more and more people are having an easier workday, not that much manual labour...

Getting started in the morning with some training to start the burning of calories are very important, just walking or jogging will get your body started...

Something I wonder about are the conversion rate from lbs to kgs how many kgs are 100lbs for instance? 45.45 kg = 100 lbs

I'm down another 1 kg today :)

Thx and congrats on loosing weight dude, you need to shave of some of those kgs to fit properly in some small sports car...

the main problem are height tough getting in and out of an Opel Speedster are an hassle when you pass 185 cm`s....

Tell me about it... I was "playing" with an Enzo earlier today... it's amazing the crowed that car even gathers in the middle of nowhere LOL :)

I fixed one issue by buying some driving shoes... after driving my first Ferrari some weeks back, I found my normal tennis shoes on my size 14 feet are just wayyy too big, so thats helped a lot. My fat arse shrinking will help fitting snugly in the seat... unfortunately, the CGT, and Enzo's seats are a bit tight  so yeah, loosing those spare tire KG's will help a lot :)

(no opel speedsters here, but the elise is very similarly dificult to get in... the worst I've ever experienced)

Thanks man these gas prices are helping my diet also since I can't afford food

Seriously though I don't have much time to work out so I do what I can. working in a "sweatshop" and not eating shit really helps. plus water is free so why waste money on pop at work...

You could always drink the low calorie beer. I've never had it. I like my beer to much to care about the health effects.

Zfrk, I'm ight there with you on the working in a sweatshop thing. Some days it's damn near unbearable. What makes it really bad, is that I'm one of those people that will sweat like a pig in the slightest bit of heat. The past few days I've brought a change of clothes so I don't have to drive home soaking wet.

Amen to that sir, Amen to that. I can't wait till we get our new shop with A/C and all that, for now its sweatshop galore but when it starts getting hotter thats when the true weight loss begins

Yeah atleast we are right on the lake I would say maybe a mile from it. You're out in Schaumburg which I notice is usually warmer. I go out there all the time on the weekends for the "Streets" and it is usually warmer than by me.
