Rumor - Z06 ran 7.49 in Sport Auto

I've heard from multiple sources that HvS ran a stock Z06 7.49 at the Ring. THere will be a supertest in the issue due may 18th.

While pretty far from the 7.43 time rumored, that confirms the Z06 as on par with cars like Porsche 997 GT3 and GT3 RS (7.48 ) Lamborghini Murciélago and M3 CSL (7.50). Respect 8)

not many NS drivers are willing to get so much air at Phanzgarten (or was it Flutzplats?) ~n/m my spelling~ like Jan Magnussen did... that alone was worth 2-3 seconds... and his handling of the VEtte is not unlike WR in a Porsche on NS

ring times dont mean shit, the track is way too bumpy, long, hairy. Way too much room for mistakes, places where u know u could of pushed more, etc etc. The perfect place to test would be to give each car 10 laps on a circuit like Suzuka or Spa. By a highly regarded race car driver that knows the track. Im always amazed by how much ppl go by ring times.

And everyone is aware of this artcile - and where is he saying he won't drive the car anymore? His comment was further proof that the car could be pushed to the limits - just like any other sports car - do you seriously think that when a 911GT3 etc lays down a superfast time at the Nurburgring it is having a 1-handed Sunday drive? Each of the cars that puts in a superfast time, is doing so at the very ragged edge of control.

You are aware that he was a factory Corvette race driver at the time - right?

But still, some cars are easier (less "scary") to race at high speeds.

Plain and simple, van Stuck was not as comfortable as the factory Corvette race driver who has had far more experience in the car.

Magnussen is known for, or at least here in denmark to make such non bulshit comments. I remember a similar article on the same lap where he stated that he was "scared shitless". i dont know if it is because the comments made in danish to us locals cant really influence his international career that he speaks so frankly, but it is in no means derogatory towards the car, it just means that the man knows the cars potential and some times pushes his own talent a bit too far to show off the car. thats just the kind of person he is. we had this up when we discussed whether racecar drivers get scared.

Magnussen is also known to be very serious about what he does and is consistantly a bloody fast driver. So to explain my point to the grumpy z06-driver above, that means that if a professional racingdriver employed by GM runs the car absolutely on the ragged edge, to the point where he even with his background and intimate knowledge of how this vehicle behaves at the very edge of its performance created by hours and hours behind the wheel at racing speeds, pushes the cas so hard he admits he is scared, and proceeds to produce a time of 7.43 then there probably is little chance that anyone else is going to come along and knock ten seconds off this time.

That HvS runs the same car at 7.49 confirms, as I said originally, that this car is seriously fast. However, there are plenty of accounts of people knocking ten seconds off HvS' time in a wide range of the vehicles he's tested.

things like humidity, Ta (absolute temperature) track temperature and mm Hg can affect a car driven in the same manner by 4-5 seconds at NS

So are we using the SA test times for the Z06 vette from now on like we do with most other cars who run the ring, or still the factory racing driver time?

both. We use both times when using WR's NS times, and SA's times... why not the case with GM?

Sportauto times cant be compared to factory times since sportauto always use the same driver and only drive cars directly from factory, no preproduction cars or different drivers.
