Who here has the car with the highest mileage? The car I get if I dont buy one is a 92' Accord EX. It has had 0 major problems, and gets almost 40mpg. Excellent for a reliable car. It has 462,000kms on it. Anyone else got more?

I had a Civic once that had almost 300,000 mls on it. Handas as
well as most other Japanese makes seem to get milage like that
as a norm. A well kept handa will last nearly as long as a Mercedes,
and that says a lot about Handas reliability. Incidently, where did
you get that 40mpg figure, I only ask because it seems a bit High
to me.

The world record for high milage is held by a Volvo, I believe
that it had something like 1.3 million miles on it. But that has
had several engine changes done to it as well as a whole slew of
other repairs so IMO it doesn't really count.

My 1985 BMW 325e has ~390,000kms on the original engine. The first seven years of its life had only 44,000kms. I get between 20-24mpg in city driving.

Yeah, my dad saw that car. The guy went on Leno with it. I agree it doesnt count cuz hes doing it purposely. The mileage was calculated by my dad from highway driving to and from some far places, like the states etc. I think its getting 36-38mpg highway and like 32mpg city. Its a Manual Tranny, im not sure what engine, maybe 1.3? SOHC... thats all i can think of. lol

I just found this on www.guinnessworldrecords.com, I think it's the
same Volvo that I mentioned earlier in this thread. Looks like he
even put some more miles on it since the last time I heard.

"Highest Car Mileage
The highest recorded mileage for a car is 3,218,688 km (2 million miles) for a 1966 Volvo P-1800S owned by Irvin Gordon of East Patchogue, New York, USA. He reached the 2 million mile mark in the NBC Studios at Times Square, New York City, on March 27, 2002.
Irvin Gordon bought his red Volvo P1800S for US$4,150 from the Volvoville dealership on Long Island one Friday in 1966. The following Monday he was back for the 1,000 mile (1,600km) service, testament to his enjoyment of his car. The retired schoolteacher – who used to make a daily 201 km (124 mile) round trip to work - works on the car himself and has had it resprayed four times. While clocking up his record-breaking mileage Mr Gordon traveled through 48 US states, Canada, and five European countries.

The P1800, a two-seater touring car with a long, sweeping hood, went into production in May 1961, and was made until June 1973. The P1800 was made famous as Roger Moore's car in the TV series The Saint"

^^ I dont think much on that car is original tho, if anything. I wouldnt really count it, its almost like putting a car on a set of rollers and running it 24/7 since its been rebuilt so many times he might as well. My dads car has had these replacements from what I can remember:

Radiator
One Drive Shaft
Brakes, I think 3 times
2nd battery
2nd rear tail-light
2nd rear-view mirror (broke off)
2nd inside door handle plastic moulding
Tires obviously, but I dont know how many times.
Steering Rack - Biggest replacement on the car.
last year installed 2nd Clutch

I think thats everything he's done to it so far. Not bad for 12 years old. Most of it required replacement due to wear, and not due to failure. Drive Shaft was bent from hitting a curb I think, so it vibrated a bit. Rack was making some wierd noise and was stiff.

Holly cow, that's 368 mls per day, you'd think his hands and feet
would be num by now. He must be a travaling salesman. The other
cars on that list have impressive gas mileage to.

There was an article in BMW magazine a couple years ago about a guy with a mid 70s (I think) 2002 that had 845,xxx miles on it. He said he replaced/rebuilt the engine twice, but nothing else out of the ordinary had been replaced. He even had the original tags on it. Even with the engine replaced, that's a respectable mileage on each engine.

Well if I had a Yugo I'd probably kill it before it had a chance to get 40K on it.
 Maybe Jeremy Clarkson could help me do it, he seems to be good at that
kind of stuff.
