I am looking at getting a Vauxhall Calibra as a stop-gap car, something to get me to and from my new job which is a little bit more interesting than a 1L average-mobile, plus cheeeaaaaap too :) until i can get started with cars I REALLY want!

Does anyone have any idea how much MPG (combined) I'd be likely to get out of one at around the 100K miles mark?

There is little info on the internet, from what I can tell, the original MPG when new was around 28-35 something like that so obviously it'll be less than that!

Anyone with any experience of old cavaliers/other vauxhalls?

Cheers

P.S. Any other suggestions would be welcomed!

Hmm, I'm not really that interested in MPG, performance is more important to me, was just trying to get a ball-park figure of how much it might cost me to run.

Dunno if I could stomach a diesel :?

Calibras are just so cheap its unbelieveable, atm I can't find similar performance for a similar price.

I'm looking into a petrol Ibiza Cupra too now, but they're still more expensive.

I used to have 16v 4x4 calibra, it went 100km with 5.7liter at best. So it does not drink much fuel.

Good seats and fun to drive in winter, summer is just normal boring opel, because not enough power to 4wd drift.

fwd is for suckers.. and turbo calibra will leave that ibiza standing, nevermind tuned.

I guess you've never get a ride in a 180hp Ibiza Cupra TDI - it's WAY faster than any Calibra!

You're right, I haven't! But neither can I find any about for a decent price at the moment. :?

Any opinions on the Fiat Coupe anyone?

^^ Yeah!

A BMW 850i came to mind but then I saw that you wanted a good fuel economy so we'll drop that option..

So you like 2-door coupes I see...

Then my option would be a E30 325i 2-door

You know what, i don't particularly like them, i would not choose to drive either the Calibra or the Coupe if i had more money right now!

My angle is that for this money it's impossible for me to get a better performer? The 20VT Coupe is pretty quick for such an old car and for around £2K is really cheap.

My worry about it is it's repair costs!!! I would need to search out a well looked after model.

I'd happily have a Cupra instead but there are none even close to the prices of the Calibra/Coupe in this country. Apparently the UK does not want 2 door coupes!!!

You guys in other countries might have some good suggestions but maybe won't know the prices they go for here in the UK.

One more thing ....... do I need to worry about a Coupe being a bit 'girly'???

Perhaps a VW Scirocco? The best 90s coupe if you ask me! And its a Volkswagen so it will be very reliable.

not scirocco, but corrado, vr6 engines might get troublesome thou.

And about fiat coupe, there are 2versions 4 and 5cylinder turbos, both go plenty, but still it is a fiat, one needs to study a lot, before buying.

^^ I meant Corrado

The VR6 engine is one of the best engines ever made by Volkswagen and that says alot. Only problem is that you will need to find one that hasn't been abused by some kids/ricers.

^^ Yep low mileage are the ones to go for, but doesn't really matter because these engine will go forever if nobody has fiddled with it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-VOLKSWAGEN-CORRADO-VR6-GREEN_W0QQitemZ250101963888QQihZ015QQcategoryZ9873 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
