Tom discovers what it’s like to be a paparazzi photographer hot on the trail of celebrities in an unassuming black Kia Cee’d – the perfect car for “spies, getaway drivers and paparazzi”. After a briefing from Big Pictures boss Darryn Lyons he’s off, and soon has Madonna firmly in his sights. But will he come up with a big money picture?

There’s also a big car crash investigation. Two identical cars meet in a head-on collision, one in perfect condition and one which has been badly repaired. The results are shocking and demonstrate the importance of carrying out a vehicle history check before you buy second-hand.

Also this week, Tiff Needell has the first TV test of the car everyone’s talking about: the Audi R8.

And regular racing mogul Jason Plato puts his foot to the floor when he takes the Brabus Rocket, the world’s fastest four-door saloon, to the German Autobahn to try and top 200mph.

And Vicki puts the Fiat Panda 100 HP through a stern test as she races it against a Ferrari around a track –with some surprising results.

Though it´s only 5th Gear, this first ep seems to be quite nice actually :D R8 and Brabus Rocket is definitely something i wanna see :twisted: Let´s hope they can hold this level for the entire series though i very much doubt it :roll:

Thanks Jabba for hosting this. First of all, I gotta admit, this version of the 5th Gear was pretty entertaining.

Glad that they got rid of Lovejoy. Overall it was pretty good except I didn't care much about the Madonna part though. R8 review by Tiff was pretty cool, although it looks like they really didn't allowed him to push the car too much. I always enjoy the crash test and this one was interesting as usual. The Rocket test was okay, again nothing too special and wasn't too exciting either. Fiat vs Ferrari was funny.

Overall 7.5/10. Definitely improved from the last series.

About the episode:

The R8 feature was good, although I think it could have been beter if those morons didn't limit tiff with those cones! The kia and panda segment were a total bore except for looking at that guys freaky pink hair! The crash test was actually informative and helpfull and the rocket segment was too short...
