Wow that is kinda late for you to be getting glasses. I thought after a certain age you won't need glasses anymore, well until you need reading glasses. :D
I am telling you, it is because you are watching too much porn in the dark.

People who buy glasses just for the looks with 0 lenses should be punched in the face
Excellent idea. It has the dual effect of physical punishment and the destruction of the glasses.

^^ I have the same sort of glasses.
I have a lazy eye and because of that I can't focus on some objects and therefore read them for instance. The disorder was so small they didn't even have the glasses for it, they had to be made specially for me and that wasn't cheap.
Luckily my dad paid for it

well... wearing glasses is a pain in the ass (can't get very close to my girlfriend because she smudges the plastics, when it rains... damn, etc)
I can see very good without them, but I need them to drive. Distant and not so distant objects are blurry to me.
So imagine, it has happened me many times that I see a "great looking girl, with a nice bod"... and then when I'm just about to engage her, when I'm 10 meters away... I discover she's not so great looking, her clothes covered her fat body, etc.
btw, great glasses, I'm considering buying them.
Of course, don't play sports with them.

The timing of this thread is kind of ironic. Today I had a meeting with my eye doctor to determine if Lasik laser surgery will work for me. Apparently it will. Now Im just debating the costs to make up my mind. If I do itll be all said and done within 2 weeks.

The frame itself will not brake, galvanised rubber.
Galvanised rubber? That's a new concept.

i don't wear glasses - yet
since my parents need glasses i will probably have to jump on the train some time. i hope it will take some time :)
I wear glasses since i was 8 years old...
I've been wearing mine for about 7 years now... i wear contact lenses most of the time, but i got a pair of really cool glasses from D&G that i wear the rest of the time.... they're a bit of a fashion statement, but they look good on me!
I will probably have laser eye surgery if i can in the next few years, but i'm in no hurry... :bah:

didn't read that... LOL
how's that? I guess it was galvanized in a hot dip/bath :P
but the correct thing: it's elastomer, a plastic that resembles rubber, high resitance to wear and almost everything (almost this exact material is used in underground high voltage systems to conect the switchgear and cables).
I Read the materials used in the frames and are great

^Ah, OK, that makes more sense. :P
I'm not entirely sure of this Lasik business. There are plenty of risks involved, and the treatment may not be permanent, or 100% effective. In fact, pretty much all doctors who do this procedure and wear glasses will choose to continue wearing glasses.

I was told a much different percentage.. My doctor is one of the best Lasik doctors in the country (not him doing the talking. I personally know 10 people that have successfully had it done by him. Not to mention my inside source, a nurse whose very familiar with this field. He has personally done over 4000 of these surgeries over 10 years.). According to his numbers 99 percent of all people end up not requiring glasses to drive. 93 percent end up with 20x20. Just 1 percent end up with worse vision. Touch up is available if it doesnt last more then a year at no charge.. typically if it lasts 2 it is considered permanent (at least in so far as the available data- 10 years or so).
Some people experience nite blindness or halos for up to 3 months after surgery.. Some people need artificial tears for the first few months.
Still there is that 1 percent, it will cost me 3800 dollars, and it requires a significant time investment. I'm still on the fence and I only have a few days to decide (my appointment would be next Thursday (26th).

Yes, but as I said theres still that 1 percent risk. No surgery is 100 percent riskless. Then again, nothing in life is riskless. Im still deciding.

You typically heal in a few hours and are fine if it goes well. No pirate flap.

for a succesful surgery you have to mantain a lens graduation for at least a year
but I think I would go with laser surgery.
I wear them, usually I'm wearing contacts.
how safe is surgery?
I'm sure there is some percentage for the succesfull surgery, but I don't remember the number. In a good hospital with competent staff it's as safe as any other surgery. The downsides for surgery are that the eye sight can still continue to decrease, allthough it's reset and eye sight in dim light might suffer also. Still, I'm willing to take the chance if I just have the money.
I'm so used to wearing glasses, that when I wear contacts and go to the shower or sauna, I try to pick off my glasses from my nose as a reflex and sometimes poke the nonexistant glasses with my finger to better position, because it feels like they're greeping down the nose.
People who buy glasses just for the looks with 0 lenses should be punched in the face
I had eye surgery like 5 years ago, and I have a perfect vision... I haven't had any big troubles at all. The consequences I have is that lights at night sometimes bother me and white light (like on a cloudy day) bothers me more than usual and I have to wear sunglasses

I would say: go for it. At least 5 friends had the eye surgery and now they are happy without their glasses.
If I had a bigger... lenses graduation (sorry, don't know how to say it) I would have the surgery. I have 0.75 in both eyes, so it isn't much

Would you even need glasses with such small numbers?
Yeah, for reading and when seeing things at a distance. Like when driving.

Have them since yesterday, it's a huge difference and my eyes have to adjust themselfs to the glasses. My screen looks like a trapezium instead of square, and all tables are placed on a 45 degree angle or something lol.
And damn, so many ugly people in this world!!!!
Maybe you should go back to the glasses store. They could tweak them better by the way they sit on your face. But I know exactly what you mean though.

..The thing I remember is when I walked out from the shop for the first time with the new glasses on, man, it felt like I had supervision, I was able to see right across the city and still read the neon signs and texts.
that is my experience when i tried someones glasses some time before but no i am not getting one  i cant see too crisp in a long distance but i do see pretty good 8)

yes, I need them for driving and seeing things without being blurry at 15 or more meters. My problem began when driving at night in places I didn't know very well and the signs' letters were blurry
btw thamar... you better check out the angle correction with your new glasses. Go with your eye doctor and have another vision test. With my last pair I thought the same "my eyes have to adapt", but my angle correction was wrong on my right eye. I used my last pair for a week until my dizzyness forced me to have another check
I changed my perscription yesterday, and got me a pair of very cool Jaguar eyeglasses...i'll post pics here later, when i find out the model..
