Get the current STI now or next year

I’m in a pleasant predicament at the moment. I am set to buy a Subaru Impreza WRX STI within the month. There are some circumstances that are holding me back namely the 2008 model, my US culinary internship and my grad studies.

The 2008 model’s exterior looks so tamed and appears like a bad copy of the Mazda3 among other things. If I were to wait for the WRX it would come by September and the STI early next year. The sorta bad part is that the STI will be a 5 door hatch. The good thing with the newer model is that everything's updated but at a higher price point what with inflation and forex.

A lot dont know this but to supplement my business I’m studying towards being a chef and that being the case I will have the chance for a paid internship for 6-12 months. As much as having the chance to work in a more challenging environment this would take me away from my hometown and the car. The same goes for my plans to take grad studies right after my internship extending my stay to a total of 2-3 years. The US internship & grad studies isnt 100% sure as I am still thinking if it is the right thing for me but I’m heavily leaning towards it. The chance to experience working in the US is also golden in my eyes. I absolutely have no plans in living in the US as I love the Philippines too much.

So what do you think? Should I get the current STI now or wait until I come back?

Wait until the new STi is actually released, who knows how accurate the current drawings are.....don't judge it yet and wait for some reviews.

I'm not a huge fan of the 06 STi looks-wise but the performance can't be denied, minor mods yields great results.

I would NEVER buy a brand new car! Why lose $10K in depreciation the first year? Let someone else take the hit and save yourself a heap of cash, plus you'll still get warranty on a 10,000km/1 year old car.

Get a used STi in the States ;) then when you get back to the PI get another one.

Dunno yet. Will be applying to grad schools within my budget. :) I'll probably get a used STI in the US if I'll do a internship & grad school.

I have a friend that goes to The Culinary Institute of America in New York.

idk what I would do, thankfully I dont have the funds to purchase an STI so I dont have to make that decision :wink:

I read up how life is at the CIA and it is pretty intense (ex. going to the farm, taking care of your own cow, dismanteling it processing it into cuts, prep, cooking, serve). Daily 16+ hr days.

I talked to my chef-instructor about Le Cordon's 11 month intense program and it is hardcore.

CIA in NY would be a great choice if you could afford it. I can't think of any city other than Manhattan where you can find so many different types of great food.

Do you plan on studying a certain culture or are you creating your own blend/fusion?

If you ask me this very moment I'd want to apply what I've learned into a more industrial setting than commercial. I'd deal direct to my clients that buy in bulk rather than to myriad of consumers/customers.

Still there are perks to doing business with consumers/customers like the press and meeting all the nice pretty people. ;)

I have two trains of thought...

a. get the STI asap and put in cold storage for when i come back.

b. get a used low mileage STI/M3 in the US while I'm interning & then grad school.

If you get a STI now and store it in the Philippines, what will you have to drive in the States?

I know you want to get in the car ASAP, but if you will have to put it in storage, and then sacrifice what you can or will be driving in the US, I say wait for it. You'll be happier driving it in the States.. Plus you'll have an out of country license, no parking tickets or speeding tickets ;)
