Some pics of a mysterious AMG that will be revealed at the New York Auto Show. Start guessing gentlemen!

Notice that it only seems to have two doors.

Can't think of what it is, new CL63?

Hopefully it something that doesnt sound like grumbling bear.

Really, I sould like to see the C63. I wanna see what AMG has to counteract the new M3. If they put a nice F1 style gearbox it the next C63, it may be a contender.

this is likely gonna be a C63, and it's gonna look quite muscular...should be interesting.

Notice that it doesn't seem to have rear door handles.

My guess is CLK Black Series.

According to the shape and size I´d rather say it´s an E or CLS class. Don´t know though, could also be the CL65

As its name might suggest, the CL 65 AMG is Mercedes' large coupe with the 6.0-liter, twin-turbo monster V-12 from the S 65 AMG under the hood. Look quickly, because the CL will gladly disappear in a cloud of tire smoke, hitting 62 mph in 4.4 seconds and 124 mph 8.9 seconds later.

Mercedes' in-house performance brand AMG turns 40 this year, which is no feat for a tuning company. AMG, which wasn't always owned by Mercedes, made a name for itself not by merely shoehorning huge engines into little cars (which would have likely killed off their clientele in fiery crashes) but by improving braking and handling as well. This AMG-ed CL is no exception to that rule.

For starters, nehind the forged, twenty-inch twin-spoke wheels are brakes of obscene proportions. The front rotors, at 15.3 inches in diameter, are bigger than the wheels on many cars, and are straddled by the world's first twin-sliding calipers. AMG says this design combines the advantages of floating caliper brake design (lower heat transfer to the brake fluid and smoother operation) with the stopping ability of a fixed caliper unit. The rear brakes - also enormous at 14.4" - have conventional sliding calipers.

The CL 65 also has an AMG Sports Suspension, which uses Mercedes' Active Body Control to all but eliminate pitch, dive, and body roll.

Finally, no AMG model would be complete without aggressive visual modifications, the CL looks sufficiently menacing. It has unique front and rear fascias with large air intakes and side vents, side skirts, and a rear diffuser that is flanked by twin, chromed tailpipes. The grille is exclusive to AMG, and the front end also features tinted bi-xenon lights and chrome-surrounded round fog lights.

Interior changes to the CL include AMG sports seats with massage function up front - and metal AMG badges on all four chairs, an AMG Ergonomic sports steering wheel, poplar wood trim, and stainless steel pedals.

At New York, Mercedes will also be debuting a 40th anniversary edition of the CL 65 - to commemorate AMG's fortieth birthday, of course. Only forty Special Editions will be made, each with a numbered plaque on the center console. Designed by the AMG Performance Studio, these cars will be instantly recognizable by their exclusive paint.

2008 Mercedes Benz Cl65 Rear
The CL 65 AMG 40th Anniversary Edition is the first production car to use AMG Alubeam paint, which is a paint that uses extraordinarily small pigment particles (one third to one tenth the size of regular paint) to give a luminous luster unlike other paints. Indeed the clear-coated finish is so smooth that the CL appeared to be glowing when we saw it at a preview in Geneva last month. We can't wait to see it in natural light.

This technology has been used before in show cars, and can be used with any color paint. Mercedes plans on using this as a trial run to finalize the Alubeam production process for other models. In the meantime, this water-based BASF paint is hand-applied at the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen.

40th Anniversary Edition cars also feature a two-tone "Exclusive Passion" Nappa Leather interior with a diamond stitching pattern on the door panels and seats. The gorgeous interior is finished with a color-coordinated Alcantara headliner, V12 logos on the headrests, and genuine carbon-fiber accents.

The twenty 40th Anniversary Edition cars destined for our side of the pond will go on sale in September on a first-come, first-served basis. Even at a sticker price in the neighborhood of $185,000, we expect them to sell out almost instantly.

On second thought, it may not be the CL65 AMG, since the silhouette image doesn't seem to closely resemble the CL.

From World Car Fans:
However, Mercedes stated that information about "other new Mercedes-Benz vehicles making their debut in New York" would be released at the show. As previously mentioned, most likely the new C-Class but it would be really cool if it were another AMG such as the CLK 63 AMG Black Series which seems to be the consensus from the comments we received. In my eyes, Mercedes would redeem themselves with such a move.

Stay tuned, Mercedes will release more CL 65 photos tomorrow.

-- The CL65 doesn't have the boot spoiler which is apparent in the 'teaser' pic... so who knows? It may be the CLK63 AMG Black series as some have speculated

From World Car Fans:
With its debut just half a day away at the NY Auto Show, here are the latest shots of the AMG mystery car, the CLK 63 Black Series.

After doing so with the SLK 55 AMG just recently, engineers are now making the CLK 63 AMG even sportier: They are about to develop an exclusive, emphatically puristic special series, a car that sets new standards in handling dynamics – the CLK 63 AMG Black Series. With the AMG 6.2-litre V8 engine, which has been boosted to 530 bhp, the numerous lightweight components, 19-inch AMG forged wheels, AMG adjustable sports suspension and AMG high-performance composite brakes, the special CLK 63 AMG brings its sports car talents to bear even more convincingly – and cuts an impressive figure especially on racing circuits.

Broad, brawny and low-slung – it's clear at first glance that the CLK 63 AMG Black Series is something very special. It offers a captivating view from the front with a redesigned AMG front apron and its broad openings, which supply the added transmission-oil cooler and the high-performance steering-oil cooler with plenty of fresh air. In addition, new side outlets made of carbon – still disguised in our pictures – ensure effective ventilation for the engine-oil coolers. The front wings, now wider, are made of reinforced plastic with ultra-light carbon-fibre composite material and feature black outlined air outlets.

The combination of low vehicle weight and a powerful AMG eight-cylinder engine ensures first-class performance. This CLK 63 AMG Black Series accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in only 4.5 seconds (standard model: 4.7 s). Power transmission is accomplished using the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC with manual drive program ("M") and AMG aluminum gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.

This car will be insane!

From Automobile Mag
No, it's not the wrong picture - the Black Series is actually a silver CLK coupe. If the word black in its name implies sinister looks, though, the name of this Mercedes is spot on.

The regular CLK63 AMG uses a 475-hp version of AMG's sonorous 6.2-liter V-8 and is available as a convertible only. The Black Series gives that car twenty-five more horsepower for a round 500, a fixed roof, and a serious shot of testosterone.

Shown for the first time at the 2007 New York Auto Show as part of AMG's 40th birthday celebration, the CLK63 Black Series is unquestionably the most butch car in the Mercedes stable. It's loosely based on Mercedes' Formula 1 Safety Car, sharing that car's sports exhaust and limited-slip rear differential (which has its own oil cooler and - get this - thermostatically-controlled cooling fan).

What you'll notice first, though, is the body kit. In addition to the real carbon fiber flared fenders, rear spoiler, and diffuser, the CLK63 Black Series has an almost comically aggressive front and rear aprons and side skirts.

The CLK63 coupe rides on lightweight forged aluminum, nineteen-inch AMG wheels, nine inches wide front, nine and a half rear. Tires are 30-series Pirelli P Zero Corsas, 265mm wide front, 285mm rear. And behind those wheels and tires reside vented and cross-drilled composite rotors measuring a massive 14.2 inches front, 13.0 rear.

The CLK63 Black Series also has a larger radiator and second transmission oil cooler, helping keep things chilled during the 4.1-second sprint to sixty or while cruising at the electronically limited top speed of 186 mph.

Mercedes hasn't announced pricing yet, but we've already put in a request for a Four Seasons Black Series car. And bought a couple of new Valentine One radar detectors.

Going through our inbox this morning, an anonymous reader tipped us off to a new animation appearing on Mercedes' AMG website - one which depicts the above-shown vehicle along with a message stating "In July... the fog lifts." As for what model is making its debut, that we cannot say, although the grainy vehicle in question does bear a striking resemblance to the SLK-Class.
