Which are the cars u think are extremely expensive or overpriced, and the ones u think everyone says it's the ultimate car, the best ones, etc. and they aren't?
thanx for your opinions
mine are:
- overpriced: any brabus (you could buy almost any ferrari, astons, lambos, better and more exotic), the Dodge Ram SRT10 (an attempt to catch on the lightning, and both pucke-ups are dumb, is better if u buy a Ford F350 and nobody will mess w/you), the VW touareg (ugly and I'd like more a bmwx5, volvo suv, range rover), almost any crossover that manufacturers think you'll pay a lot more because it's a "new concept" (chevy ssr for example), and lots of american cars that cost more than $40k, including suv, sport cars
- overrated: teens and young adults in my country die for the new srt4 (even when it has 235hp, bla, bla bla, it can't do any miracles for the stupid way they drive). New super or turbo charged vehicles that are designed to be sporty and such things (but they kiss my old beetle's ass because they are shitty cars)
any comment, disagreement, etc. please write some

Bentley and Rolls. Everything each company's made in the last, say, 20 years. I mean, I'm sure they're great cars, but they're not The Best Cars On Planet Earth. They're just not.

definetly the SSr and the new H2 the H2 must die I want to take a HUMMER and run down every H2 at my local dealer. Escalades suck too. NSX also.
over-priced & over-rated: hummer H2
NSX also.
really? i'd say its under rated cuz of its badge...over-priced? maybe...

the VW touareg
It got the same chassis and suspension and the base transmission of a Cayenne (not turbo) and you can get a V-10 TDI with very nice specs (2003 second best engine of the year after the renesis rotary). It maybe kinda ugly but it`s sure better than looking than the Cayenne...well me thinks... and bring on the biodiesel :)

As a rule of thumb you just have to verify a car's marketvalue after 12 - 24 - 36 - 48 - 60 months of registration.
Than you'll know and the result might come as a real shock

bentley and rolls? wtf?, they are nice cars but overpriced, i know that the interior and shit, but i mean if would spend money on cars, i would buy something fresh and cool, not a super luxury car, but i am the type of guy that thinks that the diferent cars have diferent ideals, bentley=luxury, ferrari=fast, toyota=economy, and so on, but it depends on ur likes, i wouln't pay 400k$ on a bentley, i rather pay that for a jaguar xj supercar

maybe you can have the most powerful engine, the best chasis platform, but the touareg... isn't a mercedes, a bmw, a range, it tries, but is a suv that has been thrashed in critics, overall performance
as a srt 10, u can have the best engine, but it doesn't reaches the level it wants

over-rated: Porsche
over-priced: Motorhomes. they get such crappy gas mileage that you should be paid to buy them, not pay hundreds of thousands to get one.
Chaos in 1983!

I agree with davmac...corvettes are extremely over rated...I hate how everything is compared to it even if it's not in the same range...

r34 skylines are overrated and a little bit over priced
How are corvettes over rated? the z06 owns cars costing twice as much, in straight line and on the track. Back up your claims if your gonna say something like that. People compare the corvette to other cars, because its been a benchmark for perfomance for 50 years. Name one ferrari, or lambo that has done this. about the Lexus, its not that great, its overpriced as well, its like 50 grand for nothing. Id rather have the BMW anyday.

I think Ferraris are overpriced. The Porsche GT2 can kill every Ferrari (except Enzo). Also the are so delicate you can't run them hard or they might burst in to flames.

ugh have u sat in a FX? eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww....plastic everywhere! its almost as bad as the 350z

Ive driven an FX45
well dont u agree that the interior is a little umm..lacking?
zevolv
01-12-2004, 03:24 AM
Yes the interior is a little iffy but that V8 engine and that sound makes up for it
also the 20" rims
ya no kidding...hehe thats the whole reason i went to look at the thing in the first place! it looks likes its gonna eat something  but after sitting in it i was rather turned off...guess those 20''s cost them a decent interior
only problem with the FX, i beat that exhaust gets annoying after a while. we test drove the 35, and that damn thing is to loud inside.

The VW New Beetle is overpriced, but hardly overrated. I have never heard anyone boasting about the damn thing. Anyway, it's way too expensive for "a Golf in a Hitler suit", as JC put it.
All of Mercedes-Benz's cars are overpriced as well. The build quality of recent years doesn't justify their prices. Mercs these days aren't built to last as long as they used to. They also lack in driver involvement and all things considered they shouldn't cost as much as a BMW.
Skylines and Supra's are overrated in the sense that they can compete with exotics in all aspects. Sure, they can be modded into incredibly fast and capable cars that can sometimes take on Ferrari's, Porsches and Lamborghini's, but they lack in character and style too much to be in the same league. To be a true exotic takes more than hp and dynamics. The emotional and aesthetic element needs to be there. Don't get me wrong, they're still highly desirable cars, but not as desirable to be called an exotic supercar.

The New Beetle 2.0 is about 5,000 euro's dearer than a Golf with the same engine. For that extra money you get less space and you will only look like a total twat while driving it. Not great value IMO.

I love BMWs, but the new E60 525 loaded up is over $54,000.00 US - way over priced for a 184hp sedan. On the other hand a M3 coupe for the same money is a bargain.

Infinity G35 is overrated and overpriced. Why should I buy a G35 when I could get a Lexus GS430 with a V8 that has MORE POWER than either the G35 and BMW 540i ?
Come on, the G35 is hot, and it handles like a dream. Buying a V-8 with more power wouldn't nessesarily be faster (and isn't in this case). G35 0-60 is like 5.6 with a manual. GS430 is 5.9, according to car stats.com

Statements like "handles like a dream"... I'm not convinced, I gotta see a 4 door raced on Best Motoring and drive one myself. And even then, isn't the lexus still rooomier and gives a softer ride? Overall, the lexus is still a better car in this 4 door class, and the G35's overrated in relation.
However, I bet in a couple years, there will be a G45 ( V8 ) . NOW THAT WILL BE AN INTERESTING CAR!
For the time being, I'm thinking Caddy's CVT with the LS1 motor's the best in this class.
First of all the G-35, and GS-430 are not in the same class, the 430 is bigger. Secondly the G-35 is an extremely smooth ride, and it does handle like a dream. Caddillacs next car is not the CVT, its the CTS-V, and the CTS has a horrible bland interior, with plastic, only thing saving it is the LS1

01-12-2004, 02:23 PM
CTSV, CVT, ABS, DSP, damn all these letters to H.E.L.L. !!!
so the GS430 IS bigger, and the G35's against the BMW 3series and caddy CTSV.
bland interior? they're all bland, they're supposed to be bland. they're all either bland, posh, or gaudy.
I dont buy any statement "it handles like a dream". Do you write for MOTOR TREND (j.k.) ? It might handle as neutral as a 3series. It might even have as good steering feel as a 3 series, but I dont see any 1.2 G lateral acceleration numbers.
Come on BEST MOTORING, let's see some racing and drifting vids of the G35 4-door!

g35 and lexus gs430 is not in the same class
one is aroudn 50000cdn on the road, and the lexus is like 85000+on the road
g35 i think is the best car in that price range, nice interior good engine and handling etc
i think nsx is over priced,,, is not that it has teh honda badge, is that, it only has 290hp on a 145000+cdn car.. i can get a 350z with 287hp for like 50000

Ferraris and mercedes sometimes dont represent great value for money. For example the clk is a class coupe with the price of an E-class. The 3 series is a better car in many aspects and is cheaper than the clk. Ferrari 360 has the same performance with the c5 Z06 and it is two and a half times more expensive. If you want a great value for money supercar look at Corvettes.

Why, well it's not the same thing as: I don't like it, or I don't think it's fast.
I think it's overprices because the basis for this car isn't that expensive and when a mass production car company would make a similar car, it would probably be cheaper. But I'm not a person that thinks he's right all the time, I must say I know something about cars but I'm still learning more and more so I know I could well be mistaken...
But it has an old 1.8litre rover engine, the build quality is poor and I still think 35000euro is a lot of money.

i also think Jaguars are way overpriced. In the 80s, Jaguars were much rarer and still made by Jaguar, but now it's pretty much made by Ford and it makes no sense to pay that much for a car that has no identity any more.
Actually, buying a Jaguar now compared to in the 80s is much better value for money. Jaguars from the 80s are very unreliable. You got a nice looking car with a great engine, but as soon as you took delivery from the dealer it would start corroding and falling apart. Jaguar got a big reputation for their unreliability. When Ford took over they obviously wanted to make money, their objective was not to let Jaguar mess about as they were doing when they bought the company. So Jaguar had to get rid of the bad image. The only way to do that is to start with building reliable cars. Ford put a lot of money in that and it paid off. The Jaguar XJ is one of the most reliable cars around. IMO they're still highly attractive and characterful and they're actually offering better deals than the competition right now.

maybe almost all companies tend to overprice their cars.
You look at the prices of new cars and... are too expensive, even for base models.
Here im mexico, a car dealer (as told by an uncle) for example... sells you a car for 20k. The manufacturer sells them the car for 10k more, less.
Of course you have to add all the expenses the car dealer has, such as wages, taxes, etc. and the car goes up to... 13k.
7k to the dealer and for the sales person... that too much money.
but if someone here in JW works in a car dealer, could you tell me if i'm at least 50% correct?

I think miatas are over rated. They are incredibly underpowered, they handle like shit unles you modify them extensively, etc. etc. About the only thing going for them is the price. They are really a car for people who want a sports car, but don't know what it means to be a sports car. Or for girls I guess it's a cute car, like the VW cabrio.

You probably haven't driven a Smart, they are great little cars. Much better than all the other small cars. While driving you'd never believe that you in such a small car. They are little bit overpriced, but I would take one for my 2nd car (if I even had a car  ). Generally people assume that they are "toys" 'cause they haven't driven one.
And MB's little bit overpriced, but really great cars. Too much electrical problems though (the new ones).

Over priced - any ferrari, lamborghini, and most porsches. used Hondas are rediculosly overpriced for their worth (inlcding Acura). most lexus' and infiniti's are in this category as well.
Over rated - Corvettes of all styles, Ferrari enzo, honda civic (how did this car become the base for tuners...ewwww..) for that matter, most anything honda makes is over rated.

Why? Because they're reliable, fun to drive cars with brilliant engines, that handle well despite their drivetrain limitations (S2000 and NSX being the exceptions)? Not to mention the fact that they've figured out the whole torque steer thing, which is more than most companies can say.

Haha... yeah, you think so huh? You prove my point exactly.
You Americans get your cars so cheaply so i dont know how you can complain.
You pay $25,000 for a Mustang = £15,000
In the UK you can only get a Focus for that money... a diesel focus.
As far as overrated cars go... I think that the Brabus' represent something else - they're so fast, but so luxurious.
Ferraris/Lambos etc.. are priced so high to create exclusivity (in fact, i think they are too cheap now and the prices need raising. I mean £100, 000 for a 360Modena is hardly going to break the bank... there are thousands of people in the Uk who could afford that :!: )
The only overrated and over priced car on sale that i can think of is the Bugatti Veyron (when the engineers complete it). I think that some classic cars, such as the 250GTO are expensive, but they are so rare and so should command the high prices that they do.

Overpriced cars ? Is there really overpriced car, it depends what you want. You can find that a Kia is to expensive for what it offers and that a 996 Turbo is cheap compare to a 360 Modena. That's the law of offer and request ... the capitalist system.

I think that BMW's are over-rated and over-priced. In that category, I'd take the truly german Audi anyday. I think that the Infiniti FX45 is soo underrated. You rarely see any, and it will blow a Cayenne S away for quite a bit less. It also makes one of the sweetest sounds, especially from a V-6. It's so throaty.

My most over priced car is the Audi A2!!
http://autozine.kyul.net/gallery/audi/a2.jpg
It costs a staggering £16,150 On the Road (A2 1.4 TDi Sport)
Then add options:
16inch wheels £700
Audi Sterio (Bose) £450
CD Changer £400
Sat Nav £2175 (+£705 for TV function)
Paint £630
Leather £1950
Heated Seats £300
Elec Windows £205
Fog Lights £125
Total £22,455 On the Road......and there are still more options to add, like parking sensors!
For what it is and what else you could get for 22k that is THE most overpriced car around!
Oh, for anyone from the US: As of this mornings exchange fate:

Yes. The Mini is expensive, no doubt about it. But it's not pretending to do things it can't. It's a very capable car, looks good, is built well, etc. It's no bargain, but it's unique in its own way. Name me one car that combines sweet design with excellent handling. It might be overpriced to your standards, but that doesn't make it overrated.

You sir hit the nail on the head...
The misconception here is that the New Beetle and the New Mini were to be to the new generation what they were to the old generation... which was to be the cheapest most affirdable transportation on the road..
That is NOT why those 2 models were revived - they were revived to sell to Baby Boomers who GREW up wanting the Mini and Beetle - and would easily drop 30 Large on the either car - for themselves or their kids.
So - based on the intended market - both are NOT over priced IMHO.
Now if only they had as many Turbo Beetles as Cooper S's around town here... ;)

Although I don't think its overrated, I detest the New Beetle. Less room, noisier ride and slightly worse handling in comparison to the already expensive Golf for a few thousand more...and those cheesy looks... :?

Maybachs...horrible cars. I saw one at an autoshow... it really does look like a bloated S-Class inside and out. It has amazing tech, but sooooooooo overrated and ...overpriced...i'd rather get a lambo with that likd of money
