Agreed! I've seen some hideous 20" spinners on too many old shitty cars, in such bad taste that it's distracting sometimes. :|

As much as I dislike such rims, there is no reasonable basis for their banning.

I hope they ban "grills" ... a riot will insue

^At least there are good reasons to ban those.

With you there,

Spinners are visual distractions that could kill you in the right circumstances ... grills would just give zombie-hickies

Actually..
Theres more to it then visual distraction. I'm not sure the law makers are bright enough to get it, but spinners severely hurt handling. For one they add unsprung weight, and for two they can unbalance the wheel. Coupled with 20 inch rims and 1980s impalas you have an accident waiting to happen. Then again.. Just like seat belt laws.. Who is the government to stop darwin from doing his job.

Although I could care less about spinners, I really don't see the point in banning them. I don't think there are any safety issues at stake, so what gives?

I also don't know why some people have such a dislike for car customization either, don't they realize its a billion dollar industry which is good for the economy? I can agree with certain laws on car customizing to some extent, like the car is too low or has flamethrowers on it, but this is stupid. These people need to get a hobby of their own and stop bothering others.

I think the main thing against spinners is the visual distraction that they cause. When they came out here old people were complaining alot about them because they caused them to get confused. It might actually pass, will be interesting to see what insues.

I really hope that this gets passed. I doubt it will, but I support it wholeheartedly. I can see sitting next to someone at a traffic light, glancing over at the wheels of the car next to you only to see they're moving and feeling like you have to move too. (I wouldn't do that of course, but I can see how somebody might). I'd say that's a (stupid but) plausibly dangerous situation. Also, when you add mass to a wheel, in particular to the outer edges of a wheel, i.e. make the wheel significantly larger, as many spinner-style wheels do, you increase the moment of inertia, which makes the wheel harder to stop. So I can see that being an element which needs to be taken into consideration as a safety concern.

I can't wait to see these idiotic devices off the road. Need to dump them, wheels over 21" in diameter (as some cars come stock with them these days), SUVs, Pickup Trucks (the ones that aren't being used as pickups or vehicles that need off-road capability), etc...etc... or at least heavily tax them.

Its some fucking rims. Thats it. They aint doing nothing to nobdoy. I bet all of us would want to hunt someone down if they decided to ban automotive motifications and BBS wheels. But no, because some of you dont like it, it should be banned. I dont wnat spinners on my car, but that is bullshit.

And dont gimmie the distraction crap either. They are so many cars on the road with them they dont even catch my eye anymore. Hell I am much more distracted by a V8 blowing by me at full throttle. Heck, why dont they just ban those too  Oh, and while they are at it they might as well ban motorcylces from reving past 10000 rpm. Those always catch my eye

Thats damn pitiful

Nothing should get in the way of eradicating everything that is in bad taste! The world should purge something as revolting as spinners. I don't care if it's distracting or not, they need to be destroyed because I demand it!!!

:2gunfire: Spinners

PS: Yes. It is true that the government should not concern itself over issues like this. In fact, it's very disturbing. But I hate spinners, so I'll protest when they start banning things that I like.

However, what you think is in bad taste, others may like. I don't like spinners nor would I ever put them on any car I own but I am wholeheartedly against this bill because if they succeed and ban spinners they will move on to other things. If they are allowed to ban spinners, where will they stop?

ban supercars cuz only a few can afford em...ban the mini cuz its too small and the hummer h2 cuz its too big....ban classic cars cuz they're too old and more likely to break down and cause a traffic jam...ban all foreign cars cuz they ruin the domestic market...ban any after market sound system cuz they're too loud...ban hot chicks from driving hot cars (fellas u know what im talking about  )

wtf what happened to letting ppl get on with their lives, it doesnt concern u if someone else has got spinners and u dont like em...if u dont like em fine but its no reason to have them banned.

a distraction to other drivers?!! your supposed to be concentrating on YOUR driving

As many have mentioned, spinners look terrible/tacky and are completely useless. I find them very ugly! Although, I don't really see a logical reason to ban those.
