Is it a boxer engine??
Yes, because: opposite cilinders are mounted with an angle of 180°, and during the compression phase or exhaust phase, opposite pistons are 'boxing' away from each other

The official name is an opposed cylinder engine but the accepted name is boxer.

Excellet site

PS: the boxer engines are great except for the rough idle they all seem to share.
They sound great though

Porsche calls it a Boxer engine on their site actually
And Subaru calls it a Horizontallyy Opposed engine on their site
and those are the only two that I know of that use that layout.

I loved that site. Used it to help with my networking management course. My teacher had a test based on it a while ago, I barely passed lol. I had to draw the dam pictures they had.

Uhm - so basically you are saying you never knew that Porsche was using the flat-4 design in the 1930's? (this following Hitlers order to produce a car for less than 1000 marks...)

How about the Ferrari 512BB ? It had a Flat 12. It was used in its successors, the Testarossa, the 512TR and the F512M, as well as a ton of race cars in the 60's and 70's...for instance the 312PB.

No fucktard - I am not high - but your intelligence is low.... I was simply affirming other peoples statements that this engine layout is most often referred to as a flat layout.

You were trying to inform others that it is more often called a boxer or horizontally opposed layout - and never referred to as a flat layout.

In this respect you are wrong - as the engine layout, as pointed out by many, many folks is more commonly called flat, with horizontally opposed probably coming in a distant second - and then boxer a very distant third - and the 180 degree V a close 4th (bet you never knew that a straight line is also a 180 degree angle... ;) - look that up in your Haynes Fuel Injection Repair Guide....

The common name of the layout was the point of all our replys.
