I generally think Clarkson knows allot of the stuff,

it just that Most of the times he ignores the facts and gives his opinion on it

so that puts me in 'Makes a few interesting points, but is mostly fun to watch'

He knows a fair bit about cars and has strong opinions on their usage. However, he is mostly just fun to watch, so I've gone with everyone else so far.

I chose "Makes a few interesting points, but is mostly fun to watch."

I think he does know his stuff to a certain degree but I also think he is pretty biased when dealing with certain cars.

I put purely entertainment.. Im sure he knows his stuff... but he doesn't have too. He does what is funny which well, 9x out of 10 has nothing to do with reality.

Nothing wrong with that though.

The thing is with Clarkson,he knows his stuff but instead of doing what he is told to do or say he does what he wants,he says what he thinks.which in turn makes him fun to watch. :)

^Yeah, his idiosyncracy is definitely a defining quality.

biased. In his latest movie, where he tests the Mustang "GT" it is actually a V6 mustang. he is clearly biased for any car that is british and against any car that is american. In his review of the Ferrari 575 vs the AM VanquishS he picks the vanquish as the winner because it is british, not becuase it is a better car. He does the same thing with the MG_SV, the car wont go into 3rd gear but he loves it anyway. If it was an American car that wouldnt go into 3rd gear he would insult it forever and never let us forget. The same with the F360 vs the Vantage, he picks it because it is British.

He is very entertaining to watch, the reason that he is so popular. And he knows how to play that role, which keeps us comming back for more. love the show :good:

He doesn't just pick the cars because they are British. He just adds in the desirability/coolness factor.

^Me too.

Clarkson, you would imagine, would take great care in providing an honest and unbiased opinion as to whether the car is good or bad, because he is such a public figure. If he praises a bad car too much, people will be angry.

or, he becomes an entertainment god, and even people who aren't into cars are watching his show to see his next set of antics... never underestimate the power of the purse matt ;) There is a more limited number of auto enthusiasts compared to the general public... and, it is the highest rated show in it's time slot too; obviously not done on enthusasts alone ;)

But because the show is so popular and because he's such a high profile presenter, he has the power to influence buying, thus he won't endorse a car unless he feels it's deserved. He's actually written this himself.

to me he is "pure entertainment value" i just love his style and his english humor. i would never take is oppinion or advice on cars, since he is such a biased person :D but him being so biased makes his show so much funnier. i love his attitude towards american cars, because that is when his worst side comes out and he gets about as sarcastic and offensive as it gets.

i remember the scene from one of his movies when he was in the states and standing in front of a restaurant that said "est. 1978" (or something along those lines) and he went : "Oh that is soo old" stuff like that cracks me up. to me he is just a grade A comedian

Although he does make some interesting points, I still think he is just trying to entertain.

Purely entertainment value.
