Spied: 2009-2010 Mercedes SL-Class
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/6155/5spied20092010mercedesssa4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The SL-Class underwent a minor facelift just last year, and already Mercedes engineers are hard at work on a new model. Spy photographers have snapped photos showing a test car with a disguised front end. Whether we're looking at a facelifted current-generation SL or a mule for
an all-new model remains to be seen.
The spies at Hidden Image reckon the car pictured here is a major facelift for the 2008 or 2009 model year. They say the updated SL will get an all new front end including grille, air intakes and headlights as well as a new rear end and new taillights.
But we're not convinced. Development appears far too early along for this to be a 2008 model, which would have to be in showrooms by late summer.
So let's assume that this is a 2009 SL-Class instead. An all-new SL is expected for either that model year, or the 2010 model year at the latest. Why would Mercedes completely redesign the front of its flagship roadster, only to replace the entire car one year later?
With that in mind, we believe this is actually a test mule for the next-generation SL-Class. Automakers often graft all-new front ends and engines onto previous-generation bodies in order to complete early testing.
The current SL was introduced for the 2003 model year, meaning a replacement should arrive seven years later, for the 2010 model year. Of course, Mercedes could bring the new model a year early, as it's planning to do with the 2009 E-Class. Time will tell…

-- a 2010 model seems logical considering BMW is coming out with the Z9 / SL-fighter at around the same time. the competition gets me so excited  if it's not a 2010 model, it could very well be an SL63 AMG with those quad exhausts that has been heavily facelifted

Interesting.
I hope it has a very different look to the current model, its nice but its getting kinda old.
Would love to see and hear that AMG version
2010 sounds like an interesting year for new models..
I don't know... The rear seems to "fat". I was expecting something more radical but i guess i was wrong.

Then why the fuck did they disguise the front and parts of the back? That would be dumb, since they could have just test the new engines and stuff on the previous version without attracting any attentions whatsoever.

The Pagani engine is old, and uses old technology too... it's the one used by the rare SL73 - 10 years ago?? - and it's older than the 55, 65 and 63 engines

Both are 6L V12 TT. Before the facelift of the W220 S-class and the C215 CL-class they used a 367bhp NA V12 (S/CL-600), but that engine never found it's way into the R230 (current) SL.
Oh ok - and the one has a grandpa transmisison and the other a "sporty automatic" :P ;)

I kinda dont like the photoshoped SL with CLS face, but i think that they would go in that direction. The new C klasse is an example.
Its a nice looking car, but too heavy IMHO. I will see when i try one. (yeah right  )

A prototype for the Mercedes SL Black Series has been spotted on public roads around the Nürburgring, in preparation for some hot laps later this week. This is the most wicked SL ever conceived, with optimum performance its top priority.
Huge flared fenders are likely created with ultra-light carbon fibre, to reduce weight and to accommodate this car's enormous wheels and tires. The roof on this SL has been converted into a fixed coupe roof, also crafted in carbon fibre to lower the Black Series' center of gravity and further reduce weight. Exactly what engine mods have been employed here are uncertain, but you can be sure it's insanely powerful.
Our spies will be hot on the tail of the SL Black Series, so keep an eye out for more pics from the Ring.
 Once its out, it could possibly the best drivers' Benz!

:? Looks exactly the same as the current one.
Thats because Mercedes are boring ass cars.
What ever bimmer boy
At least they don't look as dreary and boring as BMW's, of which I've driven nearly all current iterations, both M and non-M alike, unlike you who had a go in a... ML 350? pfff... just admit it, you know jack sh1t about MB's and prefer to stand out as another ill informed BMW owner because you've got no passion in "cars", you're just another "fanatic", and fanatics don't give a sh1t about cars, they only care about "their" marque. They never find anything wrong with "their" marque of cars, but know how to shout out sh1t about 'competing' brands because it makes them feel all big and buff :P
Anyway...
As was said, the SL600 and SL65 both have Twin Turbos, but the 600 has a 5.5 liter V12, whilst the 65 has a 6 liter V12. Both can get an additional +100hp from an ECU update, and a number of owners have done this.

Wonder if it will affect the reliability of the tranny given that there's so much torque in those things.

I remember a few years ago when the CL600 came out, they had to tune down the torque because unregulated it was upwards of 800 lbs-ft, if I recalled correctly. It was also the same reason why they had to use the older beefier style 5-speed auto instead of the newer 6-speed. If my memory serves me ;) .
But damn, this SL looks pretty damn good. I don't even really care what it looks like, but those flares make it look extremely good.
Yeah, I think over all this has waaaay better proportions than the SLR.

Official: SL65 AMG (facelift)
http://www.motorauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/Mercedes_Benz/SL/Merc_SL_65_AMG.jpg
Just a few days ago we brought you pictures of the latest SLK 55 AMG, and now we have the first official picture of the SL 65 AMG, Mercedes’ flagship roadster. As early as February of this year we were giving you previews of what the SL facelift might look like, and it seems we were pretty much on the money. The one major difference in the new look is the rear fascia and diffuser, which are unique to the new facelift and not found on any other model in the SL line. The news that accompanies the new pictures also confirms Mercedes will be offering an SL 63.
The picture released today only shows the new SL 65 from a rear three-quarters view, so other visual details are obscured. The powerful and prominent rear diffuser that holds the quad-exhaust tips, two at either side and the large, aggressively styled taillights dominate the view from behind. What we can see of the side looks similar to the outgoing model, and the front end, which is not shown in this picture, will doubtless hold a few surprises.
Power still comes from a 6.0L V12 in the SL 65 AMG, churning out a massive 450kW (612hp) and 1,000Nm of torque. The SL 63 AMG will get its power from a large-displacement V8 that pumps out 386kW (525hp) and 630Nm of torque. Both will be available with the AMG SpeedShift MCT 7-speed. For those with an eye toward fuel consumption and emissions, neither car is going to win any ‘green’ awards, but the figures aren’t as bad as you might think, given the massive power statistics. The V12 in the SL 65 AMG burns 15.1L of petrol per 100km traveled, and emits 362g/km of CO2 along the way. The V8 in the SL 63 AMG is somewhat more economical at 13.9L/100km and 330g/km CO2.
No word yet on pricing, but expect things to start out somewhere north of $180,000 like the current SL 65 AMG.

Both will be available with the AMG SpeedShift MCT 7-speed.
I am curious to know if they finally make the 7 speed gearbox strong enough for the 1000 Nm V2 engine :?:
