of course 8800GTX. But ur comparing NVidias next gen card to ATI's old one. Its like comparing an Enzo to a gallardo, different categories. Now a 430 vs a gallardo would make sense, but ATI hasnt released there version yet.

The best comparision would be ATI's top version of X1950XTX vs Nvidias top version of 7900GTX

well that is the newest on there sites that i could find. but isn't the nvidia top line the 8xxx?

The 8800 GTX wins easily in benchmarks, but many games still have problems with it. Only recently has nvidia made a proper driver for it (forceware 100.xx). And so far there aren't any games on offer supporting Direct X10 and pixelshader 4.0 which is why I would opt for ATI atm. It will run games at max details with a smaller fps rate then the 8800 but it will be a case of getting ie. 60fps instead of 80 which makes no difference :P

I think so. Also Nvida is coming out with 8600 to go up againt ATI's R500 or something like that. The 8600 is a DX10 card but cheaper for around 150 USD and 256mb video.

Had a Ati Radeon 9800 Pro once, what a card it was for that time! Sadly it was AGP and I moved on..

Well here is what I found during a quick google search.

With the 8600 cards is aiming at the mid-range market, where it will be a replacement for the 7600 GT and 7900 GS. The newest addition to the card is Direct X 10 and the GPU is based on a 80nm production process. The expected price of $149 seems to be a bit higher than initially reported, but this might have to do with the stock of 7600 cards which NVIDIA wants to sell off first.

The 8600 Ultra is expected to cost $179 and gets a core sped of 500Mhz which is comparable with that of the 8800 models. The big difference is in the amount of available shaders, the Ultra will have 64, which is lower than the 96 from the 8800 GTS and 128 of the GTX. The G86 core has no less than 300 million transistors on board and uses a 256-bit memory bus, the memory chips are clocked at 1400Mhz with a max of 512Mb onboard memory.

The 8600 GT only has 48 shaders and a max of 256Mb clocked at 1200Mhz. The GPU runs at 350Mhz which is considerably lower than the Ultra which costs only $30 more.
