From evo Magazine:
Fastest ever track test
On one unforgettable day, we gathered everything from an Ariel Atom to a McLaren F1 for the ultimate circuit shootout

January 2007
The ten fastest cars gather

Wouldn’t it be great,’ said associate editor Tomalin, ‘if for the 100th issue we could get the fastest group of road cars we could possibly muster, together, on the same day, and see which is quickest around the West Circuit.’

It was during our ‘Science of Speed’ cover story back in issue 094 that the seed of this compelling idea was sown. As ever, the West Circuit was an element of the test, and, to our genuine surprise, the Carrera GT came within 8/100ths of a second of our fastest ever recorded lap, 1.19.62, set by the rabid Caterham R500 Evo in issue 069.

Having compiled a wish-list of staggering optimism, we set about making the shootout happen, embarking on a charm offensive of unprecedented, er, charm. Ford was happy to stump-up a GT, the habitually generous Paul Bailey was positively bursting to see his Enzo and Carrera GT slug it out, while Iain Litchfield was only too pleased to see his ballistic Type-25 Impreza have a pop at some exotica. Caterham would bring a CSR 260 and the R500 Evo (kindly provided by its owner, Steve Moffat), while Ariel, Radical, Lotus and Dax would also be coming to the party, the latter with the positively scary Rush MC. Oh, and we’d also have a late-20th-century BMW-engined supercar called the McLaren F1. Some of you may know it.

The scale of what we’re doing hits home when I arrive at the Autodrome. There are cars everywhere. Some emerging from transporters, some buzzing impatiently on fast idle, struggling to warm their vital fluids on this chilly morning. Others sit in menacing silence: an unmistakable wedge of scarlet and a fizzing slice of acid yellow marking Paul Bailey’s spectacular brace of supercars, while brooding at the far end of the pitlane is a magnificent blue McLaren F1. Gulp.

-- i think this was the test featured on their 100th issue. for those who don't have a copy, this was posted online together with an article on each car. enjoy! (i'm surprised that the Carrera GT lapped the fastest time among the 3 supercars... but still very, very impressive!)

Excelent results for the Macca!!! Very impressive indeed!!

Wonder if in 10 years, the Enzo and the CGT can compete with the supercars! :D

The rest of the article???

Having many fast (in fact some of my fastest and hairiest) laps in a Caterham Superlight R, I can vouch fo rhow much like a 4 wheel motorcycle it is.

BTW - I wonder why the greatest car ever conceived, the Veyron - wasn't in the test to show how superior it is.

Afterall, we are told it beats the Enzo and CGT - which would mean it laps with the Caterhams and Radicals... right? :P ;)

I'm gonna have to get that magazine; looks interesting.

Too bad they didn't include the S7 tt, I bet that would compete with these cars.

And as Captain Obvious would say: I think RC doesnt like the Veyron

What's not to like about it?

It's the greatest car in history.. out handles the Enzo and CGT.... yet is oddly not in that test line up... ;)

Maybe it's obvious to all y'all why they would leave out the greatest car in history.. but not to me :P

I have to wonder a little about the times given; and the driver involved... I know that the Enzo is much more then 1.4 seconds faster around a small track then the Ford GT...

Regarding the Enzo vs. CGT time; this confirms the much earlier ams comparison (both video and mag article) which had the CGT lapping a road circuit in italy approx. 1s faster as well. Hopefully, this will put this much debated issue to rest. BTW, prior to this issue of evo, they had a 1:19.70 for this (Bailey's yellow CGT) very same car...

Re the comments on the Veyron, I guess we're going to have to wait and see. the only track comparison with the Veyron that I have read to date is at revlovers.com, where they ran two of them against pretty much everything else (that's fast - except a Z06) at Hockenheim. They stated that the only thing which was faster, was a Mac F1 GTR, but only when it had slicks fitted. Considering the 'regular' F1 evo ran in their comparison turned a 1:21.20, it's reasonable to assume that the Veyron would be somewhere below the 1:20s.

On the other hand, evo does have the Z06 listed at a 'lowly' 1:24.45 in their Bedford circuit summary.
