I'm thinking of buying a new video card, but I don't know if I should buy a Nvidia or an ATI product. My current GeForce 2 MX200 64MB isn't nearly enough for the lastest games. Based on your computer experience what should I pick ?? Cost: 200-300 dollars. TXH :)

As much as I like Nvidia I would go with an ATI. Sharper image and faster AA performance. But it depends on what cards your thinkinh of getting.

Go for a ATI 9800 and do a "software upgrade" to make it
compareable to the 9800 PRO version

most "bang for the bucks" !

I don't think I can get a Radeon 9800 coz it costs a bit too much for my pocket :(

This is my suggestion:

Connect3D Radeon 9800SE 128 MB All-In-Wonder
- TV in and out
It can most litely be modified to perfom identical to the 9800PRO AIW

I think you can get one for less than USD 250 (if you'r lucky)

meh i dont' remember but i think it was flashing the bios of the vid card, it changes to clock speed. Also it was some program that enables it to run with 128-bit memory bus.

I would go with the ATI 9600 Series for under 200 bucks. You could either get the Pro or the XT series.

9800 SE with Omega drivers runs similar to a 9800 pro with stock drivers
take note of the different versions*

ATI. I have the 9700pro and am very happy with it. A friend of mine has the same card. He over clocked his system and it apparently damaged the card. He told the tech support guy what happened and they still replaced it. Therefore, it seems this is one of the few cases where buying the retail box version has its benefits.

Tom's hardware recently published a good comparison test of all the major cards. http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/vga-charts-03.html#unreal_tournament_2003

ATI ;)
Sharper image.

Really? Sharper images from an ATI card?

I've never heard that argument before.

It's annoying to keep up with the GPU industry because they fuck over consumers royally every 3 months with a new card. So I only tend to do research when I am looking for stuff. But here's my 2 cents.

Right now Nvidia has the lead in price for performance (dx10 8800 gts with 320mb can be yours for $300 or under).

Later this year I think ATI/AMD will have something better to offer once they release their high end DX10 card.

Well, atm ATI has the slight advantage (with the 2900XT) which could increase as the drivers are improved.
