Hey, I just DL'd an early version of Gran Turismo 4 off of bitorrent, but its for PS2. I have neither a DVD burner nor a mod chip, so I was wondering how I could get it to work on my computer. Its currently a DVD image and I have no problem projecting it onto a fake drive, but what emulators/programs do I need in order to play it on my comp. Even if I cant play it id at least like to see all the new car models. If anyone has info that'd be great. O yeah... and I got it from www.suprnova.org under games in case u wanna try. (only took 2 days to DL 1.6gb, which is very good for bitorrent (at least for me))[/url]

I sure would like grand turisimo for PC
- i think it's only avail for PS2
it's a European and Asian version of the "Prologue" to GT4
There is no European version of GT4P
Anyway I played the game since I wanted to buy a third PS2 (jap) just for it... but it's not worth LOL... it's just some sort of beta version as everybody already know.. if I'd had a modded PS2 I'd buy it right away, but to spend the money on a third one would have been crazy... to bad because the bundle with game and white console was tempting!

Is there a pencilled in release date for the next Gran Turismo?
Nope... somewhere before the summer, but as always I fear it will be delayed more...

Even if there was an emulator, I bet you would have a very, very, very good comp for it to run properly. It's a PS2 man :)

I really want to like the Gran Turismo games, but I can never get in to them. :( I hope that the inclusion of Lamborghini and Saab cars will swing this game for me.

The Supercars makers are missing to Gran Turismo ... until you play it, it's the best car game yet (it's my opinion and i share it ... ).
However, it is true that a Koenig tuned Enzo or a ff CGT with 1500 bhp could be interresting to hear and see in action

damn, so theres no emulators for PS2 for a comp!?! thats kinda surprising. BTW, PS2 is about equivalent to a 300mhz computer, im not too worried about my computer being too slow.

actually there is a ps2 emulator, but the downside is that it can't run retail games :P

Judging from previous experiences with various console emulators, I'll say you need a very very fast computer to be able to run a PS2 emulator. First of all PS2 is not XBOX, so the programming structure is different from WIndows. Secondly these emulators are mostly amateur projects, and the code is not likely to be efficient. Thirdly a 300MHZ processor in the PS2 cannot be directly compared to PC processors of similar speed. The processor in PS2 is designed and optimized for games while a PC processor do a lot of other stuff.
ANyway I have GT4 Prologue and its good for fans who can't wait for the final version. Doesn't last long though cuz you can't modify your cars. There are a lot of cars in the Prologue though.

I'd take any date shown on a vendor's site with a metric ton of salt--they often change several times before the actual release.
As for emulating a PS2 on PC, it's nigh-on impossible to do efficiently as the PS2's architecture is simply not designed with regular x86 processing in mind. For example, there is not a single "graphics card" in a PS2, but rather two programmable VMUs which can be used for graphics.

I finally got Prologue before New Years, and I'm still not tired of it. I just found out that the Honda HSC is the prize car for getting all gold in the purple section of license testing. It might be a while, but I'll be soon trying out the new NSX.
Has anyone tried drifting on prologue yet? Its hard as hell trying to kick out the tail unless u have the JGTC cars...oh, and the Ford GT is one hell of a supercar in the game....it can keep up with the sorrier versions of race cars like the RX-8 LM.

I have no idea. I just found it a few days ago, but I read on the forums it can run a few games like SC2. Also plays DVDs :D

What do you mean the supercars are missing, in GT3 they had the Pagani and some Porsches (not the cheap ones) and the new one is supposed to have some more supercars on the list

lol ps2 is not "just" a graphics card in a box..neither is the x-box they are both very very complicated computers both are well beyond most any computers that are out right now. the ps2 is so much better then any previous system if they can only adapt the addons for computer games to console games...computer gaming would all be but phased out aside from hard core computer people that know what a good computer can do
its gunna be awesome when the next line of console systems comes out ps3 =)
i think they said something like 2 or 3 ps2s could take over all the duties of the shuttle computers...HP cant make that claim lol

the next generation of Playstation is available already in Japan as of this week and it is called the PSX it has a huge hard drive, DVD burner, Tivo, it does still have the normal PS2 engine with a little faster processor for faster loading and a little better video card setup to support the Tivo signal. The system also supports Memory Sticks and they are hidden behind a flap in the front of the box along with the memory cards. The game controllers plug into the rear of the box. Also Sony sells a kit for the PS2 that comes with a hard drive and a Linux OS alowwing it to be a computer. There was even a super computer that was built entirely of PS2s.

Porsche was not featured in GT3...RUF was...it's true that they are Prosches on the outside...but they are considered a manufacturer because of all the mods they do to the engines...and the supercars they are talking about are Lamborghini, Porsche and of course Ferrari...

You just kicked yourself in the ass if a porsche is a Supercar then RUF is certaineley a supercar and BTW there was also a TVR tuscan Speed 12

when did I say RUF wasn't a supercar?....what I meant is that Porsche is NOT featured in GT3 and RUF is...and RUF is not Porsche...and yes ther are lots of supercars in GT3 but the "missing supercars" they are refering to (I think) are Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini...

I had a chance to buy a pirated copy of the Granturismo 4 Prologue while i was on vacation in the Philippines. The game works on US PS2 with a mod chip of course so you can play import copied games. The game it self is hard to understand cause everything is in all japanese, but the over all game look is much improved over GT3. The whole driving control and feel of every car is totaly different. I've been a GT fan since the 1st one came out and I can truly say that GT4 prologue is far superior than GT3 in terms of new physics and driving simulation. All the cars have been recreated and they are much better model than the GT3 same goes for the tracks. I've unlocked 4 lisences and currently working on the last one which is a biotch to get as each test gets harder and Im still getting use to the new feel of the cars. Drifting is much much more harder in the Prologue but I guess thats how it is in real life, GT3 drifting is much more managable because Im pretty competent drifter there than in GT4p. One thing that didnt change though is the same tire squeeking sound thats been used since the first GT came out. The rims are still 2d pictures and I wish they had some backfire action during downshifts or something. Over all the sound, picture, and gameplay of this game is really impressive, I cant wait for the final product come out im still waiting for my mod chip to arrive, Ive unlocked a movie from the game that shows some of the cars they collected data from and the courses in realife.. so ill keep you guys posted

Compleately agree, its a 300mhz box with some weird graphics chip, heheh not comperable to my Amd 2700+ (2.17Ghz) 512mb , Geforce 4 ti 4600 : P, right now im playing GT3... just awesome game. But the lack of BMW's pisses me off.. how could they just put in a 328Ci!!! Hopefully i can expect more bimmers in Gt 4...

I know that........they even say that on the site.
For the record - there IS a real Porsche in GT3 - a 996 GT3. As well as a JTC racing Lamborghini Diablo among others.
Enable these cars with GT3Edit. With the GT3 as a base, and the RUF Porsches as donars and GT3Edit, I have been ale to create a number of hybrid Porsches.
As has been indicated, the PS2 is a "graphics box" and hardware wise, a high end gaming PC out classes it - pity there are very few games worthy of the PC's hardware though ;)
I still enjoy GT3 immensely - a great tension reliever.
Yeh the Garge editor for GT3 is super fun and to create hybrids is wonderfull :D I still have some RWD original Minis in one of my garages, of course never with less than 6 cylinders :D
