9ff Cabrio Tops 236 mph at Nardo

When the German magazine Auto Bild Sport Cars invited 9ff to the Nardo high-speed circuit to compete with 16 other tuners, they took it very seriously. After extensive development, their 911 Cabrio T-6 made 780 bhp, which has proved to be enough to leave others in the dust. The official speed record for road-legal convertibles now stands at 236.5 mph (380.5 km/h).

Without the wings it's easier to get higher speeds :wink: and most dangerous at the corners too :D

air intakes and wings would make it harder to reach such a high top speed.

Must be amazing to do 200+ with the top down!!

Ive never understood high performance convertibles. I get the appeal, but I would never buy one. Give me this car in a hard top anyday and ill be happy, impressive speed nonetheless.

There is no way the soft top would not break at those speeds. The soft top must have been down. Most manufactureres recomment you do not exceed 100 mph with the soft top up.

I suspect they had a hardtop in place for the test - 780bhp does not seem like enough power to overcome the signicant drag an open top car creates.

I think that having a hardtop on the car and then saying that it's the fastest cabrio is kind of ironic.

Cooling the engine and exhaust without big air intakes / outlets is definitely a problem: during a first record attempt (organized by auto motor and sport) the car lost its rear bumper because the material melted...

Sportec was there with the SPR1, too. Although it had some engine problems and could never use the full power of its 802 hp, it reached 370.1 km/h - let's wait and see what they can do next time!

See now thats a nice looking 977. I thought thier 996 efforts looked good too and performed even better. But for gods sake have you seen thier new Cayman and 997 turbo stuff. Absolutely hideous!!! If I were inclined to tune my 997 turbo I would go 977 but leave behind all their aero kit stuff and wheels and just take thier performance bits because they manage to make the 997 look like a futuristic pizza delivery car and they manage to make the Cayman look like a 15 year olds dream machine.

9ff has no problems in the engineering department. Perhaps they need a decent design studio to match!!! Just perhaps.

I thought so, no softop would be able to withstand such high speeds without any traces of ripping. Aston has limited the DB9 Volante to 165mph for that very matter, so 236mph is unbelieveable. And at those speeds downforce must be very low judging by the minor modifications to aerodynamical properties of the car, so I'd be surprised if the car that achieved 236 was the stock 9ff.
