ARMAN's BMW 318 E30 - new pics p.9

Man I am EXHAUSTED!!! I was looking for a good beemer(for a small amout of money) for almost a MONTH! what nerves you have to have to do so :faint:

Almost bought one but backed off in the last minute right before I had to pay LOL

Was looking for ETA(2.7) V6, after driving one fell in love with the engine note but couldnt find a good one :( 2,5 is too expensive and 2,0 were in disaster condition or again rare and expensive.

So I bought the car I saw as the first of e30's when started to looking for the car :) Almost fucked the car when drove it the first time cause its lowered infront and oil tank is right in the midle and damn low and when I didnt noticed speed bump across the street so you dont speed there I almost smashed it :oops: gladly the chap had some kind of home made fender on it so no damage only very unpleasant sound :)

Its lowered, some M-tech 1 accessory's as suspention, steering wheel(still too big for my taste), Mtech back spoiler(?) on the trunk. The exhaust is too quiet for my taste :mrgreen: and looks awful, will cut it a bit so it will not be so long :)
Got with the car very good winter tires and some goodies as spareparts :) Never liked those whells that are on the car cause thought they are utterly ugly but they look pretty good in flesh, well, original BMW "web" rims or some "16 are planned :)

Since white in very popular overhere **** I got it in white :P

Congrats mate!! That engine should be quite bullet proof, unless u done something stupid, u shouldn't need to put much money into it.

the 1.8 is a pretty decent engine.. A good friend of mine had a 1984 TC Baur 318i with only 60k on the clock.. but it wasnt really kept in good condition while it sat in a lot outside for a few years. The convertible top pretty much got destroyed and the engine needed a full tune up.. sadly he didnt have enough money to fix it up and sold it to a BMW collector for a steal.

All in all it's a great car to have some fun in. I hope to pick one of these up in a few years.

So seeing yours definitely makes it nostalgic. Your car definitely looks very nice. Actually, in the US a 318i/318iS is more preferable than the 325i that I got. I was actually looking for a good example until I came across the 325i, which ended being too good to past up.

I think the biggest thing with those cars are the Timing Chain. So make sure you have that replace or check to see if it has been replaced. And of course, as with all BMWs make sure you pay close attention to the thermostat, the water pump, and the radiator.

I heard a lot of E30 M3 parts fit for that car :D . Keep us updated!

@ae86_16v - 318iS are on same level as 325 here too, i prefered the 325 thou cause of V6 engine note :P Thanx for advice ;)

@Igorionia - no mods yet only needed checks and fixes for the lady :) and for the future - bixenons, anatomic M-tech seats(or black/red leather depends on money), nice decent double exhaust :)

@bmwmpower - yes and it took alot of time to find the one I was looking for - beautiful and in good condition :P but as you can see its possible(well I hope its ok)

Hi Arman, nice to hear form you again. And congrats on you latest purchase. In Belgium white is quite a rare colour, but I think it looks nice on your car. 8)

I don't know for sure in the E30 range, but in the E36 the 1.8 is actually to be prefered over the 2.0 because the engine is a lot lighter and therefore the car handles better. But I admit that I'm looking for a 2.5 (not a V engine though) to be my next car also. :mrgreen:

BTW, I've covered 270k kms wth mine and I'm sure it'll go over 300k without problem, so no need to worry about BM's reliability.

If this is your first RWD car, I advise you to go out and play on a big parking lot before pushing your car ino a wet corner on the open road. :wink:

@Max Power - however good the Lada was, and it was in better condition, the lack of power litterally pissed me off everytime I was driving it. Cant say when the lack of power will start to piss me off in this car :lol: BMW owners predicted that it will be very soon 8)

1000$ or about 750€ :mrgreen: Sold Lada for same money as payed for Beemer ;)

Mostly searched on local e30 forum and ofcourse in the main czech advertising newspaper and on theyr site, 325e was found over the nenewspapero ththereso trust both sides know it. The guy I bought it from was a youngster but a didecentne, worked on the car in the garage, bought another e30 to swap best parts to his car and sold the rest back on the forum. The car is a bit of a puzzle - different rear axle, changed engine etc etc but all official stuff is ok in the papers. When I asked direct question about something he answered it as it is without "i dont remeber" and so.

Never trust someone who say that car is "just ok" and "drives daily without problem" etc the car can be driven daily with holes in cooling system and with almost no oil but thats not what you want :) If he says alot of "dont remeber" "that was too long time ago" etc the car is a problem or he just didnt car of it. None of old cars are 100% ok. Look for someone who will show you all the problems car has even the smallest ones(wich are mostly the most annoying).

I like the vintage theme to the video - its like watching a 16mm movie from days gone by- the image flickers top to bottom, there are white lines that creep down the screen and occasional black spots. Super cool!

white ones are more "rally" for sure and 15" are good enought for that purpose anything bigger you'll damage very quickly in the race, for normal driving 16" are good imo :)

Thanx guys :P I am pretty satisfied with the looks finally, just a few small things to fix and it will be perfect for me(you know 2,5l engine, original recaro's etc :D)

Today finished changing timing belt and sprockets... it took me 10 hours alltogeather :shock: but no more worries about it braking down phew... :P so I am pretty happy for the car and for myself as not many owners are willing to do it themselves 8)

very sad, the car was in absolutely TOP condition with 115.000 on the clock and servised with only original BMW pars :cry: damn the fucker who blew a business wich I had almost finished(appartment sale) so I could go and by the car right away :roll: the price of the car was 1,700€ so after selling my 318 it would be just fucking 1000€ :|

I had pretty much given up on buying a car, but it seems this is the PERFECT E30 that has come my way and I could not pass it up.

Hope to get it up here within the next month and a half!

You know you could always do an engine swap for quite cheap really - Cheaper than buying another car in some cases. Do you know if the tranny is the same in the 318i as it is in a 325i?

Around here you can get an engine w/install for around 12 - 1500 $

If you can bare not having a car for a while, saving up for a M50 swap would be better than any 325i ;)

you can put there almost anything you want... but it will not be legally doable as you can change engine only for the same type with same amount of valves(4valves -1,6 - 1,8 - 1,8iS or 6valves 2,0 - 2,5) :( I'd throu 3,5 there but idea of loosing my license is scary.
Besides my car is not in the best condition overall so it would eat up another 700-1000€ just to fix all the stuff(weld wholes in the floor, fix rusty places, completely new suspension, change all rubber hoses, fixing ABS... etc etc).

I really don't think the 318 is bad at all. Especially yours Arman, it looks great although you have a long list of things to fix, it can be a great ride.

Sucks to see a deal go by, but hey, it's not the end of the world, and there are many E30's out there in Europe. Over here the number of quality E30's is dropping. All E30s in North America are either rusting away not being properly taken care or are being prepped for the track. I'm hoping to aim for the latter ;)

it will be not very easy to find a car in this condition but its not impossible :D

oh I know these feelings when someone snaps away a 325i just in front of you :( Had the same thingh with the 325i mtech2 that I wanted to buy before the 318i.

185.000 on the clock but that might not be true you know how it is :) the dude that sell it imports high quality e30's from germany but only 1-2 cars in 3 months.

@MIHALS - to tell the truth I hate Mtech2 looks :oops: If facelifted e30 than only iS lip on front and Mtech1 mini trunk lip. "Chrome" can be "tuned" to look very good, true that blue color is not so nice as white or black :bah:

I love the older BMWs, they have a lot of character. My stepbrother has the 3 series shape before the E30 (I dont know the E number of this model) and I have been thinking of an E28 or E30, as a car to keep for a long time and maybe make into concours condition. It would be nice to have a hobby that I can drive.

What made me think of an E28 was something I saw many years ago, a film called 'Splash' a story about a mermaid in New York or something. Anyway, the male character in the film has a lovely E28 528i.

Perfection for me would be the E28 528i in wine red metallic...Followed very closely by a E30 320i or 325i, much like yours.

In the UK we got a 318iS E30, which IIRC was 140hp 4 cylinder. They were very good cars, quick too, and very popular here.

I was thinking of swapping the engine with 1,8iS it would cost about 500€ all togeather and can be done ligally but the sound of R6 is waaaaaay better :twisted:
