Porsche 911, what do you consider the real one?? And why?

Although I have no problems with current Porsches, the Porsche 911 RS 2.7 (1972) has to be the one for me!

I would have to say the RS 2.7 as well because its the "origional" ..however the current porsches are basically just the same thing but much better and more improved...so I think that they would be just as good or better but they arent the origional

The purists will say only air-cooled.
However, it is hard to ridicule the awesome performance and driveability of the 996, despite it being water-cooled. The "real" Porsche is the latest one (unless they pull a 924 stunt again).

...well i´ve driven nearly all of them but after my test drive :arrow: link (http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1073&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=345) with the GT3 RS some weeks ago this 911 is definitely the best car to drive...
sure it´s not that classy as the 2.7 RS or the 3.8 RS CS but when speaking of performance/handling it simply HAS to be the 996 GT3 RS...

btw donny the picture above didn´t show a 964 3.8 RS, looks like a std. RS...

Well, this sort of is off topic, but since all of the Porsche experts are here, I'd like to get your opinion on this Porsche RS, i.e. what year is it, how fast is it, etc. These pictures where taken in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I live when not at college; which might seem surprising, but there are actually a lot of very expensive cars here (an F50 lived in town for a couple of years, and the new AMGs are very popular).

Anyways, I was on vacation in another state and some of my friends were driving around, and apparently they decided they would drive by my house...and boy were they surprised by what was parked nearly in front of my house! They rushed back home hoping it would not leave, and got their digital camera to snap a couple of pics, and luckily they got back in time. Grrr, that I wasn't home to see this awesome car parked almost in my driveway!, but I am glad my friends decided to stop by.

im itching to say 993 turbo cuz my dad has one in the garage, but the rs 2.7 wins here. the 996 is air-cooled, and lost a bit of the driving feeling (dad's analysis).

There is only one real 911. Thats the 1969 why? They changed the wheelbase of the car in the 70's and so the real 911 was lost.. BTW there is only one "911" that isnt a 911 and thats the 996...

My fav is teh GT3 RS, the more advanced 911 until now. You can enjoy the driving more and more, you are more confortable in the car and you can concentrate on the driving

I would have to say 2.7 RS. It is the 911 that started the power crazy road car. It was basically a racing car allowed for street driving. I also love the new 996 GT3RS. a lasting tribute to the original. the mighty 2.7.

GT3, without a doubt. It symbolizes the naturally aspirated soul of Porsche, which is racing.

I might be biased, but the 3,2 Carrera is the last, real, 911
- but no one of the 911 mentioned here are "wrong"

For me it would have to be the Porsche 964 RS 3.8 from 1993. Thanks to this model I fell in love with the 911 and it is the first car, to hang above my bed on a picture. Besides it looks so oldschool.

I say the new 996 GT3, since it's true to Porsche roots, has rear wheel drive, no extra bs, and represents the latest iteration of true to Porsche core racing style sports car.
