The enthusiast world has been waiting for the next Nissan Skyline for some time now, particularly American enthusiasts, who are set to get their first factory-sanctioned taste of the performance legend when it makes it into US showrooms for the first time.

Looking very close to the sensational GTR-Proto concept shown back in 2005 at the Tokyo Motor Show, the 2008 Skyline appears to be in its final stages of development, as evidenced by these KGP Photography shots of the car caught testing at the Nürburgring.

While all previous Skylines were sedan-derived, the new model will reportedly gain its own two-door architecture, which bodes well for the car from a performance standpoint.

Prevailing rumors have the car taking on a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6, itself derived from the engine in the 350Z. Power bogeys put the mill in the range of 450 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of twist. In true Skyline fashion, the car will be all-wheel-drive, with a further evolution of the GT-R’s electronic ATTESA ET-S torque-sensing system, tied into a four-wheel steering system.

All of which should be good for a 0-60 miles-per-hour time of well under 4 seconds, and a top speed somewhere on the ambitious end of 180 mph.

Not just that, but you can bet that this Skyline can really get around the corners and stop in a hurry without much drama. The GT500 gets beat by a stock corvette through the turns.

Oh well, with a projected price of $70,000 USD, I'll never have one. Not to mention that they will all be sold before they're even to the dealer floor and those that private parties sell will be thousands over MSRP for a used one.

If you really want to make some money folks.... Get one reserved, buy it for MSRP if you can, then sell it for a nice profit the same day on ebay.

looks fat doesn't always equate to is fat...

the GT500 doesn't look so fat, while a CLK GTR does... but in fact, the GT500 is fat, and the CLK GTR isnt.

anyway... performance matters, but so do looks.... and if you want a sub 4 second 60 mph time, you dont have to spend 30k in mods to the GT500 to make it there....

and contrary to what so many say, the GT500 will do well in the corners too

It's a bit chunky, but then the Skyline has always struck me as a GT-car that has more lithe handling, braking and ability than it has any right to. This looks absolutely excellent as far as I'm concerned. I love the window line and the rakish edgy look to it. It indeed does seem to have carried over a lot from the concept car. I can't wait to see it in the flesh!! :drool: :drool: :drool:

It will have max 400hp, because the engine is a v6 it will not have as much potential as the inline six. The car will not be on the market before 2008, and 92.34% of the time the estimated performance specs are too high.
I am sure Nissan will like to sell ithe skyline for 70,000, I really doubt they will. In that price range you are talking about a porshe 911. While every kid under 30 may know of the skylines potential (although we will have to see if it meets expectations) it is unlikely that enough of these "kids" can afford a 70,000$ price tag. I just dont see older people chosing a Skyline over a Porsche.

if i recall correctly, the R34 GTR lapped NS in under 8 minutes... which is definately fast... where a simple 997 911 will lap it in just over 8 flat with 180 less ponies. thats all i have to say about that

I think that was an R33, and apparently they say it wasn't a stock model too. But I don't really care, as I won't be able to afford a 911 or GTR, plus, fast times on the ring does not equate to being useful on the road which is what most people will be using it for.

It does'nt matter who likes it or does'nt. If it comes with a GT-R badge there is going to be such a hype and uproar as we all must agree - the GT-R has a hugh notorius following. Meaning people will buy it regardless of price. Which I must say looks pretty exspensive, but like I say, they know it will sell.

The Skyline has a lot of heritage in Japan. The top tuners will all get it and trick it out and all the kids will want it and get them, once they can afford it. Tuning a Porsche in Japan is not as popular, is more expensive and just doesn't happen, compared to cheaper Japanese cars. When it's launched, it'll be a mad dash to turn out the first Monster Skyline.
