Hey guys, i am currently trying to pack my entire life into 20 kg's worth of suitcase and 5 kg's of hand luggage.
My sneaky plan is to pack as much as i can into my laptop bag (currently weighing in at 7kgs!!) to get away without paying extortionate excess baggage charges (£36 PER KILO!!!!!!!!).
So what ive been meaning to ask is, has anyone else flown with malaysian airlines in economy (preferably from heathrow) and seen people getting their laptop bags and/or hand luggage weighed?
Ive been screwed with excess baggage once before and it sure as hell isnt gunna happen to me again!! But i need to take as much with me as i can!
By the way, leaving tomorrow evening! So sharpish if you would please!
Oh and while we're at it, anyone else got any ridiculous excess baggage stories to tell, i believe the charge totalled about £250 for our family once before, more than one of the tickets...
Cheers guys :)

if anything takes batteries other than your laptop, try taking the batteries out of them and just buying new ones when you get to where you're going. those little fuckers are pretty heavy for their size and i'm sure will save you at least one kilo

^^ AHA, good thinking, but unfortunately most of my things now have inbuilt batteries, ipod, laptop, external hard drive, etc etc, its crazy how it all weighs up!!!
The real killer is denim though, ive already cut down my number of jeans to take by half!!!!

if you're taking your ipod then that means you aren't taking cds..otherwise i would suggest making an mp3 disc with as many songs as possible in order to consilidate all that weight...
you could always forgo boxers....and again, just buy some when you get to your destination....i'm guessing it's not flip flop weather anymore so there goes the idea of just taking those and forgetting the socks...
Just try and figure out what you can leave behind and purchase when you get there. Like shampoo, shaving cream, razors etc.
I know it costs a couple quid you'd rather spend on fucking off, but it saves you from getting ass raped for being overweight.

Haha, indeed i think ive just managed to get my main suitcase down to 20kg's, just left a few things at home. Hopefully i'll be able to fit them in if i come back for a visit home in the future.
As for flip flop weather, i damn well hope its gunna be, in going to live in australia for a year! Summertime over there now :D (hmmm, that sunburn's gunna hurt!)

I've never been on an airline that checks weight... Just say you are equaling out between the weight you dont have on your body, and the fat passenger next to you :P
as for carry-on luggage... would you believe i carried my guitar with me all over Europe? .... and called it Carry-on a significant amount of times LOL.

Excellent!! Im coming back to the uk for my graduation in a month then flying out again and hoping to take my guitar with me, i'll see if they'll let me take it on as hand luggage, otherwise i'll just have to pay and check it in, dont fancy that much tho after watching the baggage handlers at most airports... :?

You can get away with being a bit heavy with your carry-on bag. I recently went to New Zealand from Sydney where a friend's bag was around a kilo overweight, but it didn't really bother the check-in person too much so she let him go.

They are very strict at the airports in london these days.
I took a business trip to Texas a few weeks back and used BA, meaning I had to stop over at Gatwick and Heathrow.
AS LONG as your bag is of a certain size, that's all that matters. But being able to put 7kilos of stuff in a bag makes me think your laptop bag may end up being much larger then they will allow you to take with you. They never checked the weight however, so as long as you've got some muscle and show them that "oh look at this light bag" and try not to strain too much, they won't know better ;)
But if you've got a laptop in there, you'll need to take it out when you pass it through the xray machine.
I did see a few people with laptop bags have to go back at the gatwick checkin because the bags were too large for the guy who was inspecting people.
Just go and buy some ultralight underwear and stuff, that should drop kilos down a bit

some planes, it fit, others it didn't (so they stored it up by the attendants area)... I used my cloth soft-case for the flight to be able to sneak it aboard... the solid case would've never fit.
i honestly dont know what i was thinking :-p but it was something to do on the trains and such; and afterward in the hotel.
