My firewall has been doing a good job of blocking a load of fragment attacks lately. My list of banned IP's is growing daily! This morning, I found to my horror that McAfee was not able to block some IP's! So I got onto the tech support, had a chat with the people from McAfee, all very nice, except, their advice was........We have no information on this problem, please tell us if this carries on! Nice one! Cheers for that!
Anyway, since then 3 more IP's have come through, and now this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe is acting up! I am running a virus scan now, fingers crossed.......the last virus I had caused major havoc!
The think that gets me, is that there is someone on the other end, actively trying to get to my computer! Not just a passive virus. Also, the IP's that are getting through, McAfee cannot identify....grrrrrrrrrr! If this keeps happening, I will be back onto McAfee ASAP
(I am running McAfee Internet Security v4.0+updates)
That's scary to hear.. I use Zone Alarm and in the last months it blocked 450'000 intrusions to my PC but to tell the truth I don't really know if everything is blocked or not and never saw a list of single IPs he stopped from entering my system or just seeing it...
Sometimes I just think that using a firewall is worst, because when it doesn't manage to stop everything you just worry 100 times more...
One day I think I'd just erase my firewall from my system so I'll be completely unaware of what's going on LOL..
But seriously, I hope everything will be fine for you dude!

Jon,
might sound obvious but do you use programs like
> SpyBot Search & Destroy and
> HijackThis
to scan you PC on trojans / worms / spyware and the likes.
I find those programs very useful in combination with ZoneAlarm Pro & Norton Antivirus.
Do have to say that I check the Norton update site on a daily basis for updates and receive a Ã*ndependant' newsletter on Ã*nternet threats.

I was not aware of these! Finding now! lol
The scan is complete, but nothing found, which is a good thing. I wounder what this file is doing, everytime I start the computer, it wants access to the internet. It never used to, so I can block it for now. :? I also keep McAfee upto date all the time.
Uhm.. as far as I can remember that damn file does lot of things, I'm sure I already had problems with it in the past ...

I use win98, even if I have the XP pro CD of course ;)

Well, I have no idea what has been going on lol. All seems fine, appart from that file access in the internet. Until I find out more about it, I will keep restricting it's access.

I used to use Zone Alarm Pro but since I installed my Netgear ADSL Wireless Router I have no problems at all with being hacked. The hardware solution is set to allow nothing in and specifies what can be let out. It works a treat. The only thing is that my log file for the amount of activity trying to hack me is huge. I have to set it to clear down every night.
I have no idea how I coped without a firewall and always wondered why my pc played up so much.
Jon, out of interest my version of run32dll is the same as your at 32kb and I am runing Windows XP Pro with all the patches and Service Pack 1.

McAfee sucks. are you using McAfee as a firewall? i wouldn't recomended go with a router or Norton internet Security, and you can go wrong with SpyBot.

Yea I agree norton securtiy is so much better, but i think its just a hassle to have a annoying firewall, im stuck behind a router as it is.

I have just run the spybot, and my DAP comes up a lot....I have left them for now, will it still work if I get rid of some of the banner files??

Ok, getting a bit confused, just turned my computer on, and apparently, while it was OFF, there were 5 IP's that got throught! Is that possible?? My broadband is always live, but my computer is not, what is going on!
Uhm.. how could the firewall be aware of that if the PC was off?
