I'd rig it up on a switch. I could be "peeling out" while rolling around in a parking lot at 2mph!

Interesting.. the sound of a "screeching" tire is pretty much programmed into everyone's mind that disaster is just around the corner. But I never thought of ABS as a "silent killer" because of that..
I have to admit I am an asshole driver who likes to pull the hand brake around turns and when coming to a abrubt stop.. so I see lots of heads turning to get out of the way

this raises the issue however of why dont ppl look when they are walking on a known roadway.
also, ppl not obeying the laws should at least pay attention to what they are doing.

well..... a hard stop in ABS is seldom very silent. you still get some tire screech....

Unfortunately, the popularity of ipods makes the artificial tire screech literally useless

Haha,.. yea.. it's bad when pedestrians are walking like mindless ipod drones.. but its even worse when you see dumbasses driving with headphones on.

i counted yesterday on my way to work..i sen 9 people with the white earphones in, listening to ipods, in nice cars that prolly have a great stereo. how stupid is that? lets endanger our lives, and everyone elses to show off we have a ipod! or lets be stupid and cheap and not buy a adapter to listen to it in our cars stereo.

Exactly ;)
The loud screaming tire sound created when Larry hammered his brakes to stop was just enough warning to allow his co-worker jump out of the way to safety. It was at that moment that Larry realized that if he had had ABS brakes instead of non-ABS ones, he would have silently run over his friend.
Larry is in a dream world if he thinks ABS panic strops are silent... by the very design, ABS takes the wheel to screech - roll - screech - roll - screech - roll - screech thresh hold braking.
Me thinks Larry have never driven in an ABS assisted car... which incidently would have probably stopped in time to not run his co-worker down ;)

What if this new invention will cause the driver to panick and take his foot slightly off the brake so as to "stop the tired from screeching"?

Do you guys have the same problem of pedestrians walking out onto the roads without looking and ear plugs in their ears there, just like here in Oz.
I often wonder what they think will happen too them if 1500kgs of car hits their little human body one day when some old man driving along doesnt see them in time to stop when they are crossing the street against the lights or traffic illegally.
